Hyundai Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Petrol in a Diesel Hyundai is a regularly occurring problem. And what you want to do about it will depend on a few factors. Assuming you want to find out what you have to do about this then keep on reading.
Here are the main variables to to consider when choosing whether or not to get the car drained:

  1. How much Petrol did you put into the Hyundai, taking into account that the fuel capacity of your Hyundai Grandeur CRDi is normally about 75 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Petrol, as little as 3.75 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Grandeur CRDi will in most situations not be a big problem. Experience has proven to us that an amount less than 3.75 litres (which is close to 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is frequently capable of being completely diluted by totally filling the tank with Diesel.
It's very uncommon to come across a car or truck having difficulties because of lower than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Remember that it's uncommon - in no way impossible to find. There are certain vehicles that don't stand any amount of fuel contamination at all.
    2. In between 3.75 and 7.5 litres of Petrol in the Hyundai (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience has demonstrated that as many people get away with this as all those who break down. Any time you're deciding on whether or not to chance it and basically top it up remember that it is just like betting everything on black - you've got a 50/50 chance of it being ok.
    3. Anything more than 7.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Grandeur CRDi really should immediately be drained out seeing that your likelihood of succeeding with that level of contamination is almost certainly lower than one in 50 - extremely long odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Hyundai and drove it: Have you noted any kind of performance difficulties ever since putting the wrong fuel in the Grandeur CRDi? If that's the case, have it drained no matter the quantity of Petrol or even the contamination percentage. Proceeding to drive running a vehicle that is already beginning to suffer the consequences of fuel contamination can definitely result in progressively more harm being caused to your fuel system parts.
  3. Are you looking for assurance?
You should get it removed. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is invariably some degree of danger associated with driving a Diesel vehicle on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Probable results of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel include things like the engine not starting, running unevenly, lack of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are a few of the most common Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then stop driving and get it removed asap.

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
