Hyundai Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Hyundai is a very common problem. And what you need to do about it will depend on a number of things. Assuming you would like to know what it is best to do to fix it then keep reading.
Let us discuss the main factors to consider when deciding whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. Exactly how much Petrol have you put in the Hyundai, keeping in mind that the fuel tank capacity of your Hyundai Trajet CRDi is most likely about 65 litres?
    1. A tiny quantity of Petrol, as little as 3.25 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Trajet CRDi will typically not be a big problem. Experience has shown us that an amount less than 3.25 litres (almost 5% of the fuel tank) is very often capable of being sufficiently diluted by means of wholly filling the rest of the tank with the right fuel.
It's pretty rare to encounter a car or truck going through problems due to less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind it is rare - definitely not impossible to encounter. You can get a few motor vehicles that will not stand any quantity of fuel contamination at all.
    2. In between 3.25 and 6.5 litres of Petrol in the Hyundai (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience has proven that as many people get away with it as those who don't. Any time you're figuring out whether or not to chance it and just simply fill it up bear in mind that it is very much like betting everything on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything above 6.5 litres of Petrol in your Diesel Trajet CRDi ought to as soon as possible be removed as your probability of driving with that amount of contamination is very likely below one in 50 - extremely big odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Hyundai and drove it: Have you seen any performance issues ever since putting the incorrect fuel in your Trajet CRDi? In that case, get it removed irrespective of the quantity of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Continually driving a car that is currently beginning to suffer the effect of wrong fuel contamination can just lead to even more damage being done to your fuel system components.
  3. Would you like peace of mind?
Simply get it emptied. No matter the contamination ratio, there is invariably a certain level of danger linked with running a Diesel vehicle on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Possible final outcomes of driving on the wrong fuel include the engine not starting, running unevenly, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, and the like. These are some of the most frequently seen Petrol in Diesel warning signs, and should you recognise any of them then stop and get it drained as soon as possible.

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
