Mazda Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Mazda is a common error. And its solution varies according to several things. In case you would like to know what you need to do about it then stay with me.
Listed below are the key factors to think about when making a decision whether or not to have your car drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol have you put in the Mazda, bearing in mind that the fuel tank capacity of your Mazda B 2500 is probably around 70 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Petrol, less than 3.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel B 2500 will in most situations not be a big problem. Experience has shown us that anything less than 3.5 litres (which is close to 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is generally capable of being sufficiently diluted through totally filling up the tank with the right fuel.
It's very uncommon to come across a car suffering from problems due to lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind it's rare - certainly not impossible to encounter. You can get certain vehicles that don't stand any amount of contamination at all.
    2. Somewhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Petrol in the Mazda (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our expertise has shown that as many drivers get away with this as those people who don't. Any time you're trying to decide whether to chance it and basically top it up recognise that it is just like betting it all on black - you have a 50/50 chance of it being ok.
    3. Anything in excess of 7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel B 2500 should straight away be drained out as your likelihood of driving with that quantity of contamination is very likely less than one in 50 - extremely huge odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Mazda and drove it: Have you detected any performance troubles as a result of putting the bad fuel in the B 2500? If so, have it emptied irrespective of the volume of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Continuing to run driving a motor vehicle that is now starting to suffer the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will probably typically result in more and more damage affecting your fuel system parts.
  3. Do you want peace of mind?
In that case get it emptied. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is inevitably a certain level of threat associated with operating a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible outcomes of driving on the incorrect fuel include the engine not starting, running unevenly, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and the like. These are a few of the most common Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and if you observe any of them then cease driving and get it drained asap.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
