Mercedes Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Petrol in a Diesel Mercedes is a regular error. And its remedy varies according to several things. Assuming you want to know what you have to do to sort it out then keep reading.
Listed here the main factors to keep in mind whenever making a decision whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. What level of Petrol have you put in to the Mercedes, considering that the fuel tank capacity of your Mercedes CLS 320 CDI is most likely about 80 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Petrol, something like 4 litres of Petrol in a Diesel CLS 320 CDI will more often than not not be a significant problem. Experience has taught us that anything under 4 litres (which is approximately 5% of the whole fuel tank capacity) is very often capable of being completely diluted simply by entirely filling up the remainder of the tank with the correct fuel.
It is quite rare to come across a vehicle suffering from problems because of below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Keep in mind it is unusual - certainly not impossible to find. You can get certain vehicles that don't endure any degree of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. In between 4 and 8 litres of Petrol in the Mercedes (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our working experience has proven that as many people get away with this as those people who don't. When deciding on whether to chance it and just fill it up recognise that it is much like betting all of it on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything in excess of 8 litres of Petrol in a Diesel CLS 320 CDI should really immediately be removed because your probability of succeeding with this quantity of contamination is certainly below one in 50 - extremely big odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Mercedes and drove it: Have you noted any kind of performance troubles after putting the incorrect fuel in the CLS 320 CDI? In that case, get it removed no matter the amount of Petrol or the contamination percentage. Still running a car that is now starting to suffer from the effect of fuel contamination will likely result in progressively more harm being done to your fuel system parts.
  3. Would you like assurance?
Then get it drained. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is invariably some degree of danger associated with operating a Diesel engine on Diesel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible implications of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel normally include the engine refusing to start, running unevenly, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and so on. These are a few of the most typical Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then cease driving and get it removed asap.

Keep away from getting any jack-of-all-trades to attend your vehicle. We are Mercedes experts and hold the qualifications and practical experience required to ensure you are back on the road with a minimum of hassle or worry.

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
