Mercedes Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Petrol in a Diesel Mercedes is a usual mistake to make. And its solution varies according to a few things. If you want to know what you should do about this then please read on.
Here are the most crucial factors to take into account whenever choosing whether to get your car drained:

  1. What level of Petrol have you put into the Mercedes, considering that the fuel capacity of the Mercedes ML 400 CDI is normally around 70 litres?
    1. A modest quantity of Petrol, less than 3.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel ML 400 CDI will usually not really be a massive problem. Experience has proven to us that anything less than 3.5 litres (which is close to 5% of the total fuel tank) is sometimes capable of being sufficiently diluted simply by totally topping the remainder of the tank with the correct fuel.
It's very uncommon to come across a motor vehicle having problems because of less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it is rare - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are some vehicles that will not stand any quantity of fuel contamination at all.
    2. In between 3.5 and 7 litres of Petrol in the Mercedes (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our expertise has shown that as many people get away with this as all those who don't. When you are figuring out whether or not to chance it and simply top it up recognise that it is exactly like betting all of it on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything over 7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel ML 400 CDI should as soon as possible be drained out as your likelihood of succeeding with this amount of contamination is probably below one in 50 - extremely big odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Mercedes and drove it: Have you spotted any kind of performance concerns after putting the bad fuel in your ML 400 CDI? If you have, have it removed regardless of the amount of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Continually running a motor vehicle that is already starting to suffer the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will probably likely be responsible for even more damage affecting the fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in reassurance?
Then simply just get it emptied. Regardless of contamination ratio, there is invariably some degree of danger associated with operating a Diesel vehicle on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Likely implications of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel can include the engine not starting, running unevenly, losing power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or clogged injectors, and so on. These are a few of the most common Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you notice any of them cease driving and have it drained right now.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
