Mini Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Mini is a regularly occurring mistake. And its solution is determined by several different things. In case you would like to know what you must do to sort it out then continue reading.
These are the key variables to think about when deciding whether to have a fuel drain:

  1. How much Petrol have you put in to the Mini, bearing in mind that the fuel tank capacity of your Mini Cooper D Clubman is in most cases around 40 litres?
    1. Hardly any Petrol, as little as 2 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Cooper D Clubman will generally not be a major problem. Experience has shown us that anything less than 2 litres (5% of the overall fuel tank capacity) is generally able to be adequately diluted by wholly topping the tank with Diesel.
It's highly unusual to come across a motor vehicle having difficulties with below 5% wrong fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it's uncommon - in no way impossible to encounter. There are actually a number of automobiles that will not stand any quantity of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 2 and 4 litres of Petrol in the Mini (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our experience has shown us that as many motorists get away with it as those who don't. Whenever you are trying to decide whether to risk it and basically fill it up recognise that it is just like betting all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything more than 4 litres of Petrol in your Diesel Cooper D Clubman ought to immediately be drained as your probability of getting away with this amount of contamination is very likely lower than one in 50 - truly huge odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Mini and drove it: Have you noted any performance issues since putting the bad fuel in your Cooper D Clubman? If so, get it emptied irrespective of the amount of Petrol or the contamination percentage. Continually running a motor vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the effects of fuel contamination will probably just bring about even more damage affecting your fuel system.
  3. Do you need peace of mind?
You should get it drained. No matter the contamination percentage, there is invariably a certain level of threat in connection with running a Diesel motor on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Probable implications of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, reduced power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and the like. These are some of the commonest Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you observe any of them then stop driving and have it drained asap.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
