Nissan Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Nissan is a well-known mistake to make. And its remedy will depend on various factors. If you would like to know what you need to do to sort it out then keep on reading.
Let us discuss the most important variables to consider when deciding whether or not to have your car drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol have you put in the Nissan, taking into account that the fuel capacity of the Nissan Qashqai dCi is in most cases roughly 65 litres?
    1. Hardly any Petrol, as little as 3.25 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Qashqai dCi will typically not necessarily be a huge problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that quantities under 3.25 litres (which is roughly 5% of the overall fuel tank capacity) is often capable of being sufficiently diluted simply by completely topping the remainder of the tank with the correct fuel.
It is relatively uncommon to encounter an automobile experiencing problems due to lower than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Keep in mind that it is uncommon - in no way impossible to find. There are a few motor vehicles that won't endure any degree of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. Somewhere between 3.25 and 6.5 litres of Petrol in the Nissan (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience has shown that as many motorists get away with it as those who don't. When you are deciding on whether or not to risk it and simply top it up recognise that it is the same thing as wagering everything on black - you've got a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything more than 6.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Qashqai dCi should right away be removed since your probability of succeeding with that level of contamination is more than likely less than one in fifty - definitely huge odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Nissan and drove it: Have you noticed any performance issues since putting the wrong fuel in your Qashqai dCi? In that case, get it drained regardless of the volume of Petrol or even the contamination percentage. Proceeding to run driving an automobile that is starting to suffer the effect of wrong fuel contamination will just bring about more and more damage being done to the fuel system parts.
  3. Are you interested in peace of mind?
In that case get it drained. No matter the contamination ratio, there is always a certain level of danger connected to operating a Diesel engine on fuel contaminated with Petrol. Possible consequences of driving a car on the wrong fuel normally include the engine not starting, running lumpy, loss in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or clogged injectors, etc. These are a few of the commonest Petrol in Diesel signs and symptoms, and should you observe any of them then stop and have it removed asap.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
