Peugeot Fuel Drain

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Peugeot is a regularly occurring error. And its solution varies according to a few things. Assuming you would like to know what to do to sort it out then keep on reading.
These are the main factors to consider whenever deciding whether to get the car drained:

  1. What level of Petrol have you put into the Peugeot, considering that the fuel tank capacity of your Peugeot 406 HDi is most likely about 70 litres?
    1. A tiny amount of Petrol, something like 3.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 406 HDi will more often than not not really be a massive problem. Experience has proven to us that anything under 3.5 litres (which is roughly 5% of the total fuel tank capacity) is frequently capable of being adequately diluted by thoroughly topping up the tank with Diesel.
It's very uncommon to come across a car suffering from problems with less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it is very unusual - in no way impossible to encounter. There are a few vehicles that will not stand any level of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. In between 3.5 and 7 litres of Petrol in the Peugeot (from 5 to 10%) is a 50/50 condition. Our practical experience demonstrates that as many drivers get away with this as those who don't. Any time you're deciding whether or not to risk it and just simply fill it up recognise that it is the same thing as gambling everything on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it working.
    3. Anything in excess of 7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 406 HDi ought to right away be drained because your likelihood of driving with this quantity of contamination is certainly less than one in fifty - seriously big odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Peugeot and drove it: Have you spotted any kind of performance problems after putting the wrong fuel in the 406 HDi? If you have, get it emptied regardless of the amount of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Continuing to drive running a vehicle that is currently beginning to suffer the effect of wrong fuel contamination will definitely end up in increasing amounts of damage being done to the fuel system components.
  3. Are you looking for reassurance?
Then get it removed. Regardless of the contamination ratio, there is always some degree of threat resulting from running a Diesel engine on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Probable consequences of driving on the incorrect fuel include things like the engine not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, damaged or blocked injectors, and the like. These are a few of the commonest Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and in the event that you observe any of them then stop driving and get it drained as soon as possible.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
