Renault Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Renault is a regular problem. And its solution depends on an assortment of factors. Assuming you want to find out what it is advisable to do to sort it out then keep on reading.
Here are the main variables to keep in mind whenever figuring out whether to get it drained:

  1. What level of Petrol have you put into the Renault, considering that the fuel tank capacity of your Renault Fluence dCi is usually around 60 litres?
    1. A tiny amount of Petrol, something like 3 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Fluence dCi will most of the time not be a significant problem. Experience has proven to us that anything less than 3 litres (which is roughly 5% of the entire fuel tank capacity) is generally able to be sufficiently diluted by wholly topping up the rest of the tank with Diesel.
It's rather unusual to encounter a car going through problems due to lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Please remember it is uncommon - not impossible to encounter. You will discover a number of automobiles that will not endure any degree of contamination in the slightest.
    2. Between 3 and 6 litres of Petrol in the Renault (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our expertise demonstrates that as many people get away with it as those people who don't. Whenever trying to decide whether to risk it and simply top it up recognise that it is exactly like betting everything on black - you will have a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything over 6 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Fluence dCi must as soon as possible be removed as your likelihood of succeeding with that amount of contamination is probably below one in 50 - truly huge odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Renault and drove it: Have you noticed any performance problems ever since putting the bad fuel in your Fluence dCi? If that's the case, get it emptied no matter the quantity of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run driving a motor vehicle that is beginning to suffer from the effect of fuel contamination will probably only cause more harm being done to the fuel system.
  3. Would you like security?
You should get it drained. No matter the contamination ratio, there is always some extent of risk connected with running a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with Petrol. Likely consequences of driving a vehicle on the wrong fuel normally include the motor not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, etc. These are some of the most frequently seen Petrol in Diesel signs and symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then stop and get it removed asap.

Do not just have any untrained so-and-so to try to drain your car. We are Renault experts and hold the accreditation and practical experience needed to make certain that you are back on the road with no hassle or worry.

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
