Renault Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Renault is a regular problem. And its solution depends upon various things. If you would like to know what you need to do about this then please read on.
Let us discuss the most crucial variables to be aware of when making a decision whether or not to have it drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol did you put into the Renault, taking into account that the fuel capacity of your Renault Kangoo dCi is usually around 50 litres?
    1. A small amount of Petrol, something like 2.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Kangoo dCi will in most situations not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities less than 2.5 litres (about 5% of the fuel tank capacity) is very often able to be adequately diluted by means of completely filling up the remainder of the tank with the right fuel.
It's extremely uncommon to come across an automobile having difficulties because of less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Do not forget that it's unusual - definitely not impossible to encounter. You will discover certain motor vehicles that won't endure any amount of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Anywhere between 2.5 and 5 litres of Petrol in the Renault (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our working experience has revealed that as many motorists get away with this as those people who break down. Any time you are figuring out whether to chance it and simply fill it up recognise that it is exactly like betting everything on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything in excess of 5 litres of Petrol in your Diesel Kangoo dCi really should straightaway be drained seeing that your probability of getting away with that amount of contamination is more than likely lower than one in 50 - seriously big odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Renault and drove it: Have you noted any kind of performance problems as a result of putting the incorrect fuel in the Kangoo dCi? If so, have it emptied regardless of the amount of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Continuing to run running a car that is currently starting to suffer from the effect of fuel contamination will probably likely result in more and more damage affecting your fuel system components.
  3. Would you like reassurance?
Then get it removed. Regardless of contamination percentage, there is invariably some degree of threat caused by operating a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Probable outcomes of driving a car on the wrong fuel include things like the engine not starting, running unevenly, decrease in power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or clogged injectors, and so forth. These are a few of the most typical Petrol in Diesel signs and symptoms, and if you notice any of them stop driving and have it removed immediately.

Do not just have any general so-and-so to attend your vehicle. We are Renault experts and hold the certification and expertise required to ensure you are back on the road with little hassle or trouble.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
