Rover Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Rover is a usual mistake. And its remedy hinges on a number of things. Assuming you would like to know what you should do about it then please read on.
Listed below are the most crucial variables to consider when deciding whether to have a fuel drain:

  1. How much Petrol did you put into the Rover, bearing in mind that the fuel tank capacity of the Rover 420 D is normally around 55 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Petrol, less than 2.75 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 420 D will typically not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that anything less than 2.75 litres (which is about 5% of the overall fuel tank capacity) is very often capable of being adequately diluted simply by wholly filling the rest of the tank with the correct fuel.
It's extremely rare to encounter an automobile suffering from problems due to lower than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Please remember it is very rare - not impossible to encounter. There are actually a number of motor vehicles that don't stand any quantity of fuel contamination at all.
    2. Between 2.75 and 5.5 litres of Petrol in the Rover (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our experience has revealed that as many drivers get away with this as all those who don't. Any time you're deciding whether or not to chance it and just simply top it up remember that it is the same as wagering it all on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything above 5.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 420 D must promptly be drained since your probability of succeeding with this quantity of contamination is more than likely less than one in 50 - truly huge odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Rover and drove it: Have you noticed any kind of performance difficulties ever since putting the wrong fuel in your 420 D? In that case, have it removed irrespective of the volume of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run running an automobile that is already starting to suffer the effect of fuel contamination will probably just be responsible for more harm being caused to your fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in peace of mind?
You should get it removed. Regardless of contamination ratio, there is always some extent of danger linked with running a Diesel engine on Diesel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Probable consequences of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel can include the motor refusing to start, running unevenly, reduced power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, etc. These are some of the commonest Petrol in Diesel symptoms, and in the event that you observe any of them then stop and get it drained as soon as possible.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
