Saab Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Saab is a regular mistake to make. And its remedy hinges on a number of factors. If you would like to find out what you have to do about it then keep on reading.
Let us discuss the key variables to to consider whenever making a decision whether or not to have it drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol did you put into the Saab, taking into consideration that the fuel tank capacity of your Saab 9-5 TiD is normally about 75 litres?
    1. A small amount of Petrol, less than 3.75 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 9-5 TiD will normally not necessarily be a big problem. Experience has taught us that an amount less than 3.75 litres (5% of the overall fuel tank volume) is very often capable of being adequately diluted by entirely topping up the rest of the tank with the right fuel.
It is quite unusual to come across an automobile going through difficulties because of less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Be aware that it is infrequent - not impossible to encounter. You can get some automobiles that will not stand any quantity of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. Between 3.75 and 7.5 litres of Petrol in the Saab (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 condition. Our working experience has proven that as many motorists get away with it as those people who don't. When you are deciding whether to chance it and just simply fill it up bear in mind that it is the same thing as betting all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 chance of it being ok.
    3. Anything above 7.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 9-5 TiD really should straightaway be removed because your likelihood of driving with that quantity of contamination is more than likely less than one in 50 - really long odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Saab and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance concerns after putting the bad fuel in your 9-5 TiD? If that's the case, have it removed no matter the volume of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Continually running a vehicle that is already beginning to suffer from the effect of wrong fuel contamination can just cause more and more damage affecting the fuel system components.
  3. Do you need peace of mind?
Then get it drained. No matter the contamination percentage, there is inevitably some extent of threat associated with running a Diesel engine on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Probable implications of driving a car on the incorrect fuel normally include the motor not starting, running unevenly, reduced power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or blocked injectors, etc. These are several of the most common Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then stop and have it drained asap.

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
