Seat Fuel Drain

Filling Petrol in a Diesel Seat is a fairly typical mistake to make. And its solution will depend on various things. In case you want to find out what it is best to do about this then please read on.
Listed here the main factors to be aware of whenever deciding on whether to get it drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol did you put in to the Seat, considering that the fuel tank capacity of your Seat Arosa TDI is probably around 34 litres?
    1. A small amount of Petrol, as little as 1.7 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Arosa TDI will most of the time not be a significant problem. Experience has shown us that an amount less than 1.7 litres (close to 5% of the entire fuel tank volume) is generally capable of being completely diluted simply by entirely topping the rest of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It is extremely rare to find a motor vehicle experiencing issues due to lower than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Remember that it is rare - certainly not impossible to find. You can get a few motor vehicles that don't stand any degree of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 1.7 and 3.4 litres of Petrol in the Seat (5 to 10%) is a 50/50 situation. Our expertise has confirmed that as many motorists get away with this as those who don't. Any time you are deciding upon whether or not to chance it and just top it up consider that it is the same thing as wagering all of it on black - you have a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything over 3.4 litres of Petrol in your Diesel Arosa TDI should really promptly be removed since your likelihood of driving with that quantity of contamination is undoubtedly below one in 50 - seriously long odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Seat and drove it: Have you spotted any performance problems ever since putting the wrong fuel in your Arosa TDI? If that's the case, have it emptied irrespective of the amount of Petrol or the contamination percentage. Continuing to drive running a motor vehicle that is currently starting to suffer from the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will probably likely lead to more damage being done to the fuel system components.
  3. Do you want reassurance?
You should get it drained. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is always some degree of risk caused by driving a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with Petrol. Probable implications of driving a car on the incorrect fuel include things like the motor not starting, running lumpy, lack of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, damaged or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are some of the commonest Petrol in Diesel signs or symptoms, and should you detect any of them then stop and get it drained right away.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
