SsangYong Fuel Drain

Filling Petrol in a Diesel SsangYong is a regular mistake. And exactly what you want to do about it depends on several different factors. In the event that you want to know what it is advisable to do about this then read on.
These are the main variables to consider when making a decision whether or not to have your car drained:

  1. What level of Petrol have you put into the SsangYong, considering that the fuel capacity of the SsangYong Rodius 270 xdi is in most cases around 80 litres?
    1. A tiny quantity of Petrol, something like 4 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Rodius 270 xdi will more often than not not necessarily be a big problem. Experience has proven to us that anything less than 4 litres (5% of the overall fuel tank volume) is generally capable of being adequately diluted by totally topping up the rest of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It's very unusual to come across a car experiencing problems with less than 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Keep in mind it's unusual - not impossible to find. There are certain motor vehicles that won't stand any degree of fuel contamination whatsoever.
    2. Somewhere between 4 and 8 litres of Petrol in the SsangYong (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience has proven that as many drivers get away with this as those who break down. Any time you're deciding upon whether or not to chance it and basically fill it up remember that it is the same as betting everything on black - you will have a 50/50 chance of it working.
    3. Anything over 8 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Rodius 270 xdi must right away be drained out seeing that your probability of driving with that amount of contamination is almost certainly below one in fifty - truly big odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel SsangYong and drove it: Have you spotted any kind of performance problems as a result of putting the wrong fuel in the Rodius 270 xdi? If that's the case, have it emptied regardless of the amount of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Continually running a car that is now starting to suffer from the consequences of fuel contamination will probably only result in more and more harm affecting the fuel system.
  3. Are you interested in security?
Then get it emptied. Whatever the contamination ratio, there is invariably some degree of danger in connection with operating a Diesel vehicle on Diesel contaminated with Petrol. Probable outcomes of driving a car on the wrong fuel include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, reduced power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, etc. These are some of the most frequently seen Petrol in Diesel warning signs, and should you detect any of them cease driving and get it removed right away.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
