Volvo Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Putting Petrol in a Diesel Volvo is a common mistake to make. And what you have to do about it depends upon an assortment of factors. Assuming you would like to know what it is best to do about this then read on.
Here are the key factors to be aware of when determining whether or not to get a fuel drain:

  1. What amount of Petrol did you put into the Volvo, keeping in mind that the fuel capacity of the Volvo 440 TD is probably roughly 60 litres?
    1. A modest amount of Petrol, as little as 3 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 440 TD will typically not be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that quantities under 3 litres (which is roughly 5% of the fuel tank) is sometimes able to be adequately diluted by wholly topping up the rest of the tank with the right fuel.
It's relatively unusual to come across a car or truck suffering from problems due to lower than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Please remember it is very uncommon - certainly not impossible to encounter. There are actually some vehicles that will not endure any level of fuel contamination in the slightest.
    2. Anywhere between 3 and 6 litres of Petrol in the Volvo (5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 scenario. Our practical experience demonstrates that as many people get away with it as those who break down. Any time you're figuring out whether or not to risk it and just top it up consider that it is exactly like wagering all of it on black - you will have a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything above 6 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 440 TD must as soon as possible be drained seeing that your probability of getting away with that quantity of contamination is probably lower than one in 50 - extremely huge odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Volvo and drove it: Have you noticed any kind of performance difficulties ever since putting the wrong fuel in your 440 TD? In that case, get it removed no matter the volume of Petrol or even the contamination ratio. Proceeding to run driving an automobile that is already beginning to suffer the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will just cause even more damage affecting your fuel system components.
  3. Are you looking for security?
Simply get it removed. Regardless of the contamination ratio, there is always some degree of risk caused by running a Diesel motor on fuel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Likely implications of driving on the wrong fuel can include the motor refusing to start, running unevenly, losing power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn out or bunged injectors, and so on. These are several of the commonest Petrol in Diesel symptoms, and should you observe any of them then stop and get it drained right now.

Do not simply have any untrained so-and-so to try to repair your vehicle. We are Volvo specialists and possess the accreditation and practical experience necessary to ensure you get back on the road with minimum hassle or trouble.
