Volvo Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Petrol in a Diesel Volvo is a usual error. And what you should do about it depends upon several different things. In case you would like to know what you ought to do about this then keep on reading.
Right here are the main factors to consider whenever deciding whether to have your car drained:

  1. How much Petrol have you put into the Volvo, taking into account that the fuel capacity of your Volvo V50D is usually around 52 litres?
    1. Hardly any Petrol, as little as 2.6 litres of Petrol in a Diesel V50D will most of the time not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has taught us that anything less than 2.6 litres (approximately 5% of the fuel tank capacity) is sometimes capable of being adequately diluted by thoroughly topping up the rest of the tank with the right fuel.
It's highly uncommon to encounter an automobile going through problems because of less than 5% wrong fuel contamination. Remember that it is rare - certainly not impossible to find. You can get a few cars that will not stand any level of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 2.6 and 5.2 litres of Petrol in the Volvo (from 5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our experience has shown us that as many motorists get away with this as those people who don't. Whenever figuring out whether or not to chance it and simply top it up recognise that it is the same as betting all of it on black - you've got a 50/50 possibility of it being ok.
    3. Anything above 5.2 litres of Petrol in a Diesel V50D must as soon as possible be removed seeing that your likelihood of driving with this quantity of contamination is probably less than one in fifty - truly long odds.
  2. Put some Petrol in a Diesel Volvo and drove it: Have you observed any kind of performance concerns as a result of putting the bad fuel in your V50D? If you have, get it removed irrespective of the volume of Petrol or even the contamination percentage. Still driving an automobile that is beginning to suffer from the effect of wrong fuel contamination will definitely lead to more harm affecting your fuel system components.
  3. Do you need security?
You should get it emptied. Whatever the contamination percentage, there is invariably some amount of threat caused by operating a Diesel motor on Diesel contaminated with the incorrect fuel. Possible outcomes of driving a vehicle on the incorrect fuel include the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, loss of power, degradation of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and so on. These are several of the most typical Petrol in Diesel signs and symptoms, and should you recognise any of them then cease driving and get it removed right now.

Do not simply get any unqualified mechanic to attend your automobile. We are Volvo experts and have got the qualifications and practical experience needed to make certain you are back on the road with a minimum of hassle or worry.

Petrol in Diesel Questions

When someone has put Petrol in a Diesel car they have a few very common questions. So we have compiled a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions for you

I put Petrol in a Diesel car and drove it. What do I do?

Answer

Turn off the car as soon as possible and call us. Continuing to run a vehicle on the wrong fuel can potentially damage it. We will be able to give you advice and assistance based on your circumstances

Will driving a Diesel car on Petrol cause damage to it?

Answer

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

How much Petrol can I get away with in a Diesel car?

Answer

The safe answer is none. However you might be able to get away with a very low contamination ratio. That being said, we always highly recommend draining anything over a 5% contamination ratio asap.

I know about petrol in diesel, but what about Super Unleaded?

Answer

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
