# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Abram? Don't Start It

If AdBlue has got into your diesel tank, keep the motor off and keep your ignition off.

Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is.

It doesn't burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the damage it does begins when the system pulls it in.

Caught before your motor has been run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Abram.

Ring 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Abram, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do straight away

Things to do:

- So nobody can switch the ignition on, pull your keys out.

- Near moving traffic? So put your hazards on.

- So you can give us which liquid it was and about how much, save your receipt or the empty bottle.

- Ring right where you are. Quote a WN2 5 postcode or the nearest street sign, and nobody has to hunt for you.

Don't:

- Not even for a second, and not to shift the vehicle: the engine remains off.

- Your ignition remains off: on many diesels, turning it on is enough to start your pump.

- Adding extra diesel does not work: AdBlue settles out rather than blending.

- Leave it where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short way up St John's Street.

- Do not try to drain the vehicle yourself at the roadside.

Rolling your vehicle away from the pumps is a job for attendants to help with, whichever Abram forecourt you're on, the Texaco included.

At home, the car remains just where it was left.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

The motor is not what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

From a dedicated reservoir it is fed directly to your exhaust, treating what your engine lets out.

Nothing in it is meant to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is built to handle it.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, once poured in, won't. The behaviour is not at all like diesel's.

The pickup takes fuel from the lowest part of the tank, and that is just where AdBlue settles: as it is heavier than diesel, it sinks.

Easiest of all: a vehicle that got AdBlue in Bryn Gates last night and hasn't turned since. The AdBlue sits at the base of the tank, untouched — but it will be first through if your engine starts, before any diesel at all.

From there it causes two kinds of damage.

It attacks some metals found in fuel systems, working on any part it reaches until it's cleared from the system. And once the water goes, the urea turns into crystals that block filters and lodge in narrow passages.

Lines holding AdBlue spell harm by morning for a car parked around Abram. Only inside your tank, it stays stable.

Then there's the water: it brings no protection to the parts that rely on it the most — the high-pressure pump and every injector.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel regularly the bigger issue?

Petrol pumped into a diesel on another forecourt nearby's forecourt makes your fuel thin — that's the whole issue.

Damage only comes from running on it. Mixed into the diesel and sitting in your tank, it causes nothing.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a completely wrong substance.

It cannot just be run through, because it doesn't burn.

Nor can it be watered down, because it separates again — and the following tankful will not rinse away deposits or corrosion. So the flush counts more with AdBlue, and trying your engine "to see", in the centre of Abram or out in Bickershaw, costs more than almost any other slip.

With AdBlue, the good news is no separate from petrol.

If the engine has not run, the AdBlue is still inside your tank, and that tank is the simplest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever around Greater Manchester the vehicle is sitting.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Abram: how it ends up there

It's not on purpose. Many cars have the AdBlue cap alongside the diesel inlet, now and then under one flap, and mixing them up is easy in poor light.

Most of the time it takes place with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the driveway, not at the forecourt.

It tends to occur in a couple of familiar ways.

Hurrying, outside St John's Church of England Primary School, Abram, after a warning light flashed on during the school run, someone tops up the vehicle.

A driver tips the bottle in outside their house, right off Egerton Street, as the day ends.

Or a driver unfamiliar with that flap refills your vehicle in dim light, parked in the car park outside The Bucks Head.

Hired motors, new cars, company motors, or the second vehicle in a family with one of each: the least known vehicles get it most.

Wherever you're in Abram or the rest of Greater Manchester, it is the same slip and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

## Abram: started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

It has been pulled through your filter and the lines, and if your engine ran for any time, it has reached your high-pressure pump and the injectors.

Watch for lumpy running, exhaust smoke, falling power, warnings on the dash, or a stall — coming back from Abram Centenary Garden, say, or midway across Abram.

Pull over when it is safe. Switch off. Keep the vehicle off rather than testing it again.

With each start, more of that is pulled through.

Exit the Bryn Spur, under 3 miles from Abram, by the first junction and stop somewhere safe, rather than driving on.

How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Abram to the car park by Abram Memorial is a very different job from a run towards Salford, under 15 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with every mile.

Let us know about how far it had come.

We do all of the cleaning where the vehicle has come to a stop, and once the motor has been started there is more of it.

Permanent damage is very rare when it is spotted early.

## Draining AdBlue in a diesel around Abram: what it takes

Wherever it has stopped around Abram — a forecourt, a layby, a drive, a street beside St John's — our van comes to your car.

Before anything else we ask what was put in, about how much, and whether your motor has run, because those answers settle this work.

Then the tank is drained where your car sits, and so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

A full flush matters far more after AdBlue than after petrol, because what remains won't wash away by itself.

The fuel filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and your car is tested.

Most of these jobs are a half-hour visit once our engineers arrive, provided your engine has not run.

Explosion-proof pumps mean a live forecourt safe to work on, and they run quiet enough to spare the street at night.

New diesel goes in to prime the system, and that is the final step.

Firing it up comes next, and then you drive off from where the vehicle is parked, outside Ince or on a driveway around Abram.

It is tested on fresh diesel to confirm it runs correctly before our engineers leave.

Our technicians do it all wherever the car has stopped, and it never needs to go to a workshop.

You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report later on, which is what insurers ask for.

Ring and ask instead of guessing if you are close to a border, or somewhere tricky to pin down.

Abram is a village, and an on-site drain suits it: whether the vehicle is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our technicians drain it where it is, and so it never needs to be moved to us.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Abram

Because each callouts differ, a single figure would not be honest.

What changes the cost is, firstly, whether your engine has been running and for how long; then how much AdBlue got in; and after that where the car is and whether a technician can get to it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight gap behind Abram Community Centre.

Ahead of any figure, never afterwards, each enquiry from Abram begins with three questions: the liquid, the quantity, and whether it ran.

Their replies narrow a range down to a single figure.

You get that quote by phone, before anyone heads out, and you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Misfuelling cover is part of plenty of insurance policies, so it pays to look at yours before the van arrives.

## Alongside the vehicle around Abram, still?

Then, do nothing — that is the best step there is.

Ignition off, engine off, keys out.

Ring 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, plus if the engine ran is all our technicians need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder throughout Greater Manchester, Abram included.
