# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Ashfield? Don't Start It

If AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank, keep the engine off then leave your ignition off.

Urea mixed in water is all AdBlue is.

Not like fuel, it neither burns nor blends, and nothing starts till the engine sucks it through.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Ashfield, is usually all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it is caught before the engine has been run.

Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.

## Ashfield, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do at once

Do:

- So nobody can switch your ignition on, pull your keys away.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is anywhere close.

- Hold on to your receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what was put in and roughly how much.

- Tell us a postcode starting WF6 2, or whatever street is nearest, and the van reaches you directly — so ring from wherever you are.

Do not:

- Moving the vehicle just a few yards is no reason to start the engine.

- Many diesels power their fuel pump the moment your ignition goes on, and so leave the vehicle off.

- AdBlue does not dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding more fuel will not weaken it.

- Any driving at all is to be avoided, even a short way along Truro Drive.

- Emptying the tank yourself by the road is not one to try.

Ask the attendants to help you move the car away from the island if you're on a forecourt in Ashfield, whether it is the Esso or somewhere else.

If you're on your own drive, leave it just where it sits.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

AdBlue is made for your exhaust, not the motor.

From a separate tank it is fed straight to your exhaust, cleaning what your engine lets out.

Neither side fits the other: urea does not belong in an injection pump, and a pump cannot take urea.

It does not blend. After it's tipped into a tank of diesel, AdBlue acts nothing like diesel.

Heavier than diesel, it sinks and pools below it — the very place the pickup sucks from.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a car that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Lower Altofts last night, and has not been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of that tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

Two kinds of damage come from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps running on the parts it hits for as long as it remains there.

A motor left sitting in Ashfield with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue only in its tank is not.

Then there is the water: it brings no lubrication to the parts that rely on it the most — the high-pressure pump and every injector.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel commonly the bigger fault?

Petrol pumped into a diesel on JET's forecourt leaves the fuel thin — that's the whole issue.

Harm only comes from running on it. Blended into your diesel and sitting in the tank, it does nothing.

The trouble with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally unsuitable liquid.

Not burning, it cannot just be run through.

Whether the car is in Hopetown or the centre of Ashfield, turning it over "to see" costs more in this case than nearly any other mistake, and the flush matters for more. The reasons: it won't stay blended, and so watering it down is impossible; and crystals and corrosion outlast the next tankful.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Anywhere in West Yorkshire your car has stopped, an unrun engine leaves the AdBlue still in the tank: the simplest part of any fuel system to empty.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Ashfield?

It is not on purpose. Many cars keep the AdBlue cap alongside the diesel inlet, occasionally under a single flap, and muddling them up is simple after dark.

It usually takes place outside the house, from a container grabbed on the journey home, rather than at the forecourt.

A couple of familiar ways account for the majority of them.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up happens in a hurry outside Normanton All Saints CofE Infant School.

After work, a bottle goes in on a drive close to Falmouth Crescent.

Another version: dim light, a pub car park outside Comrades Athletic Club, and someone opening that flap for the first time.

Rented motors, brand-new vehicles, company motors, or the spare car in a family with one of each: the least familiar cars see it most.

Wherever you are in Ashfield or the remainder of West Yorkshire, it is the same slip and the same first answer: leave the car off.

## Started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Ashfield?

Then the AdBlue has left that tank.

With any running time, it travels to the injection pump and each injector, having passed via the fuel filter and pipework.

You may notice your motor running unevenly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, possibly on the way back from Haw Hill Park or halfway across Ashfield.

Pull over when safe. Turn off. Keep the car off instead of testing it again.

With each start, more of that is pulled through.

If you were on the M62, under a mile from Ashfield, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere sensible rather than pressing on.

Distance matters: every mile carries the AdBlue further in, and so heading towards Wakefield, under 5 miles away, gives a much bigger job than hopping across Ashfield to the car park by War Memorial.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

There's more to clean out once the motor has run, and our technicians do all of it where your car has stopped.

Spotted quickly, it very rarely leaves permanent damage.

## Clearing AdBlue in a diesel in Ashfield: what it takes

Anywhere it has come to rest around Ashfield — a forecourt, a lay-by, a drive, a street beside The Well Project — the van comes to your vehicle.

Before anything else our technicians ask what went in, about how much, and if the motor has been run, because those answers settle the work.

The contaminated diesel and the urea come out as one when the tank is emptied, on the spot.

A careful flush matters much more with AdBlue than with petrol, since residue will not clear away by itself.

Fresh diesel goes in after the filter is cleaned — or replaced, if it needs to be — and then the car is tested.

Engine not run? In that case expect roughly half an hour on site for most jobs.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

New diesel goes in to prime the system, and that is the last step.

You set off as soon as we have started the engine, and it makes no difference whether the vehicle is on a drive around Ashfield or in a bay outside Normanton.

The check before our technicians head off is that it runs correctly on fresh diesel.

As the job is done in full where your car is, a garage never comes into it.

The insurer will want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — each handed over afterwards.

## About Ashfield

Ashfield is a suburban area in West Yorkshire, situated on the riverside at a relatively low elevation of 24 metres. Ashfield is located near the city of Wakefield, approximately 3.7 miles away, and is close to other nearby places such as Normanton and Normanton Common. Ashfield has a population of around 4319 people and is characterised by predominantly terraced housing. Ashfield is also some distance from London, at around 161 miles away.

## AdBlue drains across West Yorkshire, Ashfield included

Over the WF postcode area, the teams taking AdBlue call-outs in Ashfield reach much of West Yorkshire as well, Normanton, Normanton Common and Ellentrees among them.

If you are near a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask rather than assuming.

Ashfield is a residential suburb, and a call-out drain suits it: whether the vehicle is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, we drain it where it stands, so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## Ashfield: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

No single figure would be fair, because each job is different.

Three things shift the price: whether the engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue got in, and where the vehicle is. That last one rests on whether a technician can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight spot behind Normanton Town Hall.

Before any figure, not after, every call from Ashfield opens with the same three questions: the liquid, the amount, plus if it ran.

When those are known, a range becomes a single fixed figure.

You hear that quote on the phone, before anybody sets off, and you pay on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

Check your policy whilst we're on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.

## Alongside the car around Ashfield, right now?

Not touching the car is, right now, the most useful thing you can do.

Ignition off, engine off, keys out.

Ring 0333 366 0103 then tell us it's AdBlue, about how much, and whether it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Ashfield or anywhere around West Yorkshire.
