# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Bancroft: Why It Occurs and How to Avoid It

Leave your engine and ignition off and phone 0333 366 0103 first — the rest can wait when AdBlue is already in your diesel tank.

A drain and a thorough flush, done right where the vehicle stands in Bancroft, is usually all it needs when found before the engine runs.

Nothing happened yet? Further down, the page covers the reasons it takes place and the ways to prevent it for good.

## Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel motor

No single liquid but two: that's what many modern diesels around Bancroft and Bancroft Park carry, with diesel feeding your engine.

AdBlue's own tank keeps it, and from there it is sent to your exhaust, and there a spray treats the gas.

Each tank has its own filler.

Under one flap, next to each other: that is the arrangement on a lot of motors. Elsewhere, AdBlue's filler sits beneath the bonnet or in your boot instead.

The diesel side is filled at the petrol pump all the time.

Someone who has to stop and work out where it goes normally fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and much less frequently.

It is in the gap that the error lives.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Bancroft: how it takes place

It is hardly ever carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

The warning comes first. As AdBlue runs low the car tells you, and if it runs out completely, the vehicle goes into limp mode. So the top-up is done in a hurry: on a drive off Stonegate before work, or in the car park outside Halley's Comet on the way home.

Then your car is unfamiliar. A hire car, a new car or a company car puts the fillers where your last one did not, and the hand reaches for the cap it would have used on the old one.

Third, the bottle goes in: a diesel filler or AdBlue one, it slides in just as easily, and after the pour starts, no part stops it.

Whether it happens in Bradville or the middle of Bancroft, it is the same few seconds.

## Telling the AdBlue filler from the diesel filler

Look at these first, on a forecourt in Bancroft or a driveway out in Bradwell. A few seconds, no more.

- Read the cap rather than going by position: AdBlue ones are commonly blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel caps usually are not.

- The size. On many motors the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.

- A label inside the fuel flap frequently shows which fuel goes where, on plenty of motors. Look for it.

- In the boot or under the bonnet: that's where your filler is if it is not by your diesel cap, and the handbook tells you which.

- Collecting a hire or company car, perhaps at the car park at Wolverton? Check with the person who drove the car last before leaving, rather than when the light goes on.

## How to top up without AdBlue in your diesel tank

For the day the light appears — wherever it is across Buckinghamshire — a routine to use.

- Stop somewhere level, motor off, with time in hand — never rushing on the side of V6 Grafton Street.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds silly and it does the trick.

- The diesel cap stays on. When the two share a flap, make sure it's shut before the bottle comes up.

- Finish when that tank fills or the bottle runs dry; until then, tip gently through the own spout.

- Close the cap, then check again — making sure the diesel cap remained closed throughout. Only then, start the vehicle.

Find at step two or three that it's already gone into the diesel side? So stop just there.

Never go on to step five.

## Bancroft: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Do not start the motor: that's how the short order of things begins.

Don't switch the ignition on; on many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

Filling up with diesel will not dilute it: rather than mixing, AdBlue drops to the bottom of your tank, just where the fuel is drawn from.

If you're at a forecourt, whether it is the Shell or the BP, ask the attendants to help push the vehicle away from the pump.

At home around Bancroft? So your car remains where it is.

Already run? Pull over once it is safe, then turn off.

Come off the M1 — under 3 miles out of Bancroft — at the first exit.

Mileage counts — a short hop across Bancroft makes a smaller job than heading under 3 miles towards Milton Keynes — so tell us roughly how far it went.

## Bancroft: what happens when our engineers arrive

Wherever the car has stopped, whether by Priory Common School, near Bancroft Roman Villa or at home, our van comes to it.

Our technicians ask what went in, about how much, and whether it's run, since those replies determine this work and our quote.

You get that quote by phone, before anyone heads out.

Then that tank is drained and the system purged thoroughly.

Not like petrol, AdBlue forms crystals and attacks certain fuel-system metals, and none of that clears away by itself. Hence it counts more.

Testing is last: before that, fresh diesel goes in, and the fuel filter is cleaned or changed as needed.

After that our engineers start the engine and make sure it runs correctly before we leave.

Unstarted cars mostly need a half-hour job after the moment we arrive. The kit is fine on a live forecourt, and quiet enough for a driveway late at night.

Your insurer usually wants the engineer's report and the VAT invoice, and both are yours at the end. Payment comes on the day, with no deposit.

It is worth checking your insurance while we travel to you: misfuelling cover is included with many policies.

## AdBlue drains about Bancroft, and Buckinghamshire beyond

Bancroft is a residential suburb, and our vans that cover it also work the towns around it, Blue Bridge and Heelands among them, across the MK postcode area.

Our van reaches you fastest with a postcode starting MK13 0.

The car remains put.

Our engineers drain it where it is — a side street close to Bradville Hall Community Centre, a lay-by on the way to Loughton Valley Linear Park, a drive.

If you're close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe like the back of Site of Roman Mausoleum, ring and ask rather than guessing.

## The short version for Bancroft people

Before you tip, read the cap.

Petrol in Diesel empties it on the spot, anywhere across Buckinghamshire, if AdBlue has gone in your diesel tank anyway — and so leave the car off and ring 0333 366 0103.
