# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Bargate? Keep It Switched Off

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then leave your motor off — and the ignition as well.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

Being water-based, it will not ignite and won't blend with diesel; damage only comes when your pump starts drawing it.

Caught before the engine has run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is around Bargate.

Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

## Your next steps straight away, Bargate: AdBlue in the diesel tank

Things to do:

- So no one can switch your ignition on, pull the keys away.

- Close to moving traffic? So put the hazards on.

- So you can give us which liquid it was and about how much, keep your receipt or the empty bottle.

- Give us a postcode starting DE56 0, or whichever street lies nearest, and our van finds you straight — so call from wherever you stand.

Don't:

- Don't start the motor, even for a moment to move the vehicle.

- Turning the key to ignition by itself starts the pump running on plenty of diesels. Avoid it.

- No more fuel added. The AdBlue won't mix, and so it is wasted.

- Leave the vehicle where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short stretch along Haslam Place.

- No draining it yourself, at all, on the roadside.

Moving your vehicle away from the island is a job for attendants to help with, whichever Bargate forecourt you're on, the JET included.

Parked on your own drive? Then it stays exactly where it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

The engine isn't what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

Its own tank keeps it, and from there it's sprayed into the exhaust, and there it cleans the gas.

No part in a fuel pump is made for this liquid — and no part of it was intended to travel through one.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after poured in, will not. The behaviour is not at all like fuel's.

The intake takes fuel from the deepest part of that tank, and that's precisely where AdBlue settles: being heavier than diesel, it sinks.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a car that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Openwoodgate last night, and has not been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has sucked it in.

From there it causes two kinds of harm.

What remains when the water evaporates is urea, which forms crystals: they settle in tiny channels and clog filters. Worse, it attacks certain metals in a fuel system, and keeps going till it is flushed out.

Overnight, a vehicle parked in Bargate with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; if it's only in your tank, it doesn't.

And there is the water: it offers no lubrication to the components that rely on it the most — the high-pressure pump and every injector.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is regularly more major than petrol

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Morrisons's forecourt leaves the fuel watery — that's the whole fault.

No damage comes as long as it stays unused, blended into your diesel — only once the engine works on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is another problem: not thin fuel, yet no fuel at all.

Because it does not burn, running it through isn't an option.

Whether your car is in The Gutter or the centre of Bargate, firing it up "to see" costs more in this case than nearly any other error, and the flush counts more. Why: it won't stay blended, so diluting it is impossible; and crystals and corrosion survive the next tankful.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Not run? Then the AdBlue waits only inside the tank, the simplest section of the whole system to empty, anywhere your vehicle has stopped around Derbyshire.

## Bargate: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

Many vehicles place the AdBlue cap beside the diesel cap, occasionally under a single flap, and after dark the two may appear the same. Nobody intends it.

A container bought while heading home and tipped in at home, instead of at the forecourt, is the typical story.

The ways it occurs are few and familiar.

Rushing, outside Herbert Strutt Primary School, after a warning lamp flashed on during the school run, a parent tops up the vehicle.

After work, a container is tipped in on a driveway close to Sandbed Lane.

Another version: dim light, a pub car park outside White Hart, and a driver opening that flap the first time.

It happens most in the vehicles motorists know least: a hire car, a new motor, a company car, or the second vehicle of a household with one diesel and one petrol.

Wherever you're around Bargate or the remainder of Derbyshire, it's the same mistake and the same first answer: leave it off.

## Already started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Bargate?

The AdBlue has left that tank, then.

The filter and pipework have had it pulled along, and any running carries it on to the injection pump and every injector.

Watch for lumpy running, exhaust smoke, falling power, lights on the dash, or a stall — returning from Bargate Road Park, say, or part way across Bargate.

Once you safely can, pull over then turn it off — with no turning it on again to test.

With each start, more of it is pulled through.

Bargate sits under 10 miles from the M1; if you were on it, leave at the first junction and stop safely rather than carrying on.

How far it went matters. A few hundred yards across Bargate to the car park by Holbrook Moor Methodist Church is a very different job from a run towards Derby, under 10 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the system with each mile.

Let us know about how far it had come.

Our technicians do all of the cleaning where your car has stopped, and once your engine has been run there is more of it.

Lasting damage is very uncommon if it is noticed quickly.

## Clearing AdBlue in a diesel around Bargate: what it takes

Wherever it has stopped around Bargate — a filling station, a layby, a driveway, a street beside St Swithun — the van comes to the vehicle.

What got in, roughly the quantity, plus whether the engine has been run: our technicians ask before all else, since those shape the work.

The polluted diesel and the urea come out as one when that tank is drained, on the spot.

Residue from AdBlue will not flush away by itself, and so the whole system gets a full flush, which matters much more with urea than with petrol.

Clean diesel goes in once the fuel filter is cleaned — or swapped, when it needs to be — and then the vehicle is tested.

Roughly half an hour on site is usual for most jobs where the motor hasn't run.

Explosion-proof pumps mean a busy forecourt sensible to work on, and they're quiet enough to spare the street at night.

Bleeding the fuel system with new diesel comes at the end.

Firing it up comes next, and then you set off from where the car is parked, by Belper or on a driveway around Bargate.

Before we leave, we confirm it's running correctly with clean diesel in.

No garage is required at any point, with the entire job done then and there.

At the end, you are given paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer.

## AdBlue drains across Bargate and Derbyshire

The teams that answer AdBlue jobs in Bargate also cover the spots about it, Cowhill, Holbrook and Holbrook Moor among them, and most of Derbyshire beyond, across the DE postcode area.

Ring and check rather than guess if you are by a border, or somewhere awkward to explain.

Wherever your vehicle stands — a driveway at home, a residential street, a car park, a filling station — our technicians empty it there, with no need to bring it to us; which suits Bargate, a rural village, well.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out in Bargate?

No flat figure would be fair, because each job differs.

Three things change the price: whether your engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue got in, and where the vehicle is. That last one turns on whether a van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is easier than a tight gap behind Zion Methodist Church.

That's why each call from Bargate starts with the same three queries, asked before giving a figure, not after: what went in, how much, and if it has run.

Their answers shrink a range right down to one figure.

Our price is quoted during the call, before anyone leaves; payment comes on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it's worth checking yours while we are on the way.

## Still alongside your car around Bargate?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to your car.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103 then tell us it is AdBlue, roughly how much, and if it's run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, around Bargate or anywhere in Derbyshire.
