# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Barnack? Keep It Switched Off

Engine off, ignition off: that's where you begin if AdBlue has got into the diesel tank.

Chemically, AdBlue is simply urea in water.

Not like fuel, it neither burns nor blends, and nothing starts until your engine pulls it round.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Barnack, is normally what AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it is caught before your motor has run.

No step comes before ringing 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Barnack: the first few minutes

Do:

- Pocket your keys, which stops someone turning the power on.

- If you're anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- So you can tell us which liquid it was and roughly how much, save the till receipt or the empty bottle.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting PE9 3, or the name of the closest street, brings the van to you without a search.

Do not do these:

- Do not start the engine, even for a moment to move the car.

- The ignition remains off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to start your fuel pump.

- Pouring in more diesel doesn't help: AdBlue separates out rather than thinning.

- Keep the car where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short way along Jack Haws Lane.

- Do not try to drain it yourself at the kerbside.

Moving the car away from the island is a job for attendants to help with, wherever Barnack forecourt you are on, the BP or any other.

At home, the vehicle stays just as it is.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

Not the engine but the exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

Its own tank holds it, and from there it is sprayed into your exhaust, where it cleans the fumes.

No part inside an injection pump is designed for this fluid — and none of it was intended to travel that way.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after tipped in, won't. The behaviour is nothing like fuel's.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and pools below it — the same spot the intake draws from.

A car filled on a driveway in Southorpe yesterday evening and left unstarted is the straightforward case. Nothing has pulled the AdBlue up yet — but when the engine runs, that's what goes first, straight from the bottom of that tank.

Two kinds of harm follow from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps labouring on the components it reaches for as long as it stays there.

Pipes carrying AdBlue spell damage overnight for a car parked in Barnack. Only in the tank, it stays stable.

The water in it does damage of its own: the high-pressure fuel pump and your injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it is frequently worse than petrol

Petrol put into a diesel on JET's forecourt leaves the fuel watery — that is the main problem.

Harm just comes from driving on it. Blended into the diesel and sitting in your tank, it causes nothing.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a completely unsuitable liquid.

Not burning, it can't just be run through.

Nor can it be watered down, because it separates back out — and the next tankful won't rinse away deposits or corrosion. So the flush counts for more here, and turning your key "to see", in the centre of Barnack or out in Ashton, does more harm than almost any other mistake.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Not started? Then the AdBlue waits only inside that tank, the simplest bit of the whole system to clear, wherever the car has stopped around Cambridgeshire.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank in Barnack

It's not on purpose. Plenty of vehicles keep the AdBlue inlet alongside the diesel one, now and then under a single flap, and mixing them up is simple after dark.

Usually it is never the forecourt: someone picks up a bottle driving home and tips it in at home.

The ways it happens are few and familiar.

Midway through the drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside Barnack CofE (Controlled) Primary School the top-up is rushed.

A driver tips the bottle in outside their house, right off Main Street, as the day ends.

Or the car is topped up in the car park outside The Millstone, in poor light, by a person who has never opened that flap before.

It comes up the most in a rental, a new motor, a fleet car, or the other car in a home with both fuels — the cars drivers know the least.

Same slip, an identical first step — leave it off — anywhere you happen to be around Barnack or the remainder of Cambridgeshire.

## Barnack: started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

With any running time, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, having passed through the filter and lines.

Rough running, smoke, dropping power, dashboard lights or stalling: each may show up, maybe part way across Barnack or coming back from Hills and Holes NNR.

When you safely can, pull over and switch everything off — without turning it on again to test.

Each start pulls more of it through.

If you were on the Great North Road, under 10 miles from Barnack, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

How far it went counts. A couple of hundred yards across Barnack to the car park by Barnack Village Hall is a very different job from a run towards Peterborough, under 10 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with each mile.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

There's more to clean out once the motor has run, and our engineers do all of it where your car has stopped.

When it is noticed soon, permanent damage is very rare.

## What emptying AdBlue from a diesel involves in Barnack

Anywhere it has stopped around Barnack — a forecourt, a lay-by, a drive, a street beside Saint John the Baptist — the van travels to the vehicle.

What went in, about the quantity, and if your motor has been run: our technicians check first, since those shape the job.

The polluted diesel and the urea come out as one after your tank is emptied, on the spot.

A full flush counts far more after AdBlue than after petrol, because what remains will not wash away by itself.

The fuel filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and your car is tested.

Most of these jobs are a half-hour visit once our technicians arrive, provided your motor hasn't run.

Quiet enough for use outside a house at night, and safe on a busy forecourt, our pumps are explosion-proof.

The final step is to bleed the system on fresh diesel.

Whether it is a parking bay outside Stamford or a driveway around Barnack, that is where our technicians fire it up and you drive off.

The check before our engineers leave is that it runs properly on new diesel.

No garage is required at any stage, with the whole job done on the spot.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report afterwards, which is what insurers want.

## About Barnack

Barnack is a village in Cambridgeshire, situated inland at an elevation of 34 metres, approximately 8 miles from Peterborough and 79 miles from London. Barnack is characterised by its predominantly detached housing stock and is surrounded by nearby villages such as Pilsgate, Ufford, and Bainton. Barnack has a population of around 1007 residents, making it a small but distinct community in the region.

## Barnack and Cambridgeshire: AdBlue drains across the area

AdBlue jobs around Barnack are passed to teams that cover the places near it — Pilsgate, Ufford as well as Bainton — and much of Cambridgeshire beyond, across PE postcodes.

Assuming doesn't help close to a border or somewhere hard to pin down; phone and ask.

Barnack is a rural village, and an on-site drain suits it: whether your car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our technicians drain it where it is, so it never needs to be moved to us.

## Barnack: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

There's no honest single price, because the jobs aren't the same.

Whether the motor has been running, and for how long, comes first in what changes the cost. How much AdBlue went in comes next, and then the position of your car, since an open drive is easier for a technician to reach safely than a tight spot behind Barnack Community Church.

Before a quote, not after, every call from Barnack opens with the same three questions: the fuel, the amount, plus if the engine ran.

The replies turn a range into a straight price.

Our quote is quoted on the call, before anyone sets off; payment happens on the day, by card or by phone, and nothing upfront.

As our engineer is travelling, check your policy: many include misfuelling.

## Barnack: still alongside the vehicle?

Leaving the vehicle alone is, right now, the most useful move you can do.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Petrol in Diesel handles the rest, across Barnack or wherever in Cambridgeshire, after you phone 0333 366 0103 saying it's AdBlue, roughly what quantity, and whether the engine ran.
