# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Batley: Why It Occurs

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave your engine and your ignition off then call 0333 366 0103.

Usually, if the engine has not run, it is drained and thoroughly flushed where your car sits in Batley.

The rest of this page covers why it takes place and how to make sure it does not — useful if you are reading ahead of time.

## Two fillers, two tanks: AdBlue in a diesel motor

No single liquid but two: that is what many newer diesels near Batley and Clerk Green run, with diesel feeding your engine.

AdBlue goes to the exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to clean it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

There's a filler for every tank.

On a lot of vehicles the two sit side by side under the same flap; on others the AdBlue filler is in your boot or under the bonnet.

At the petrol pump, your diesel side is topped up all the time.

Rarely filled, AdBlue normally comes out of a bottle, tipped by someone who must stop and think what cap it needs.

The slip lives in that gap.

## Batley: how AdBlue in the diesel tank takes place

It's rarely carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

Haste comes from the warning. The vehicle tells you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank puts it into limp mode — so the top-up gets done quickly, before work on a drive off Commercial Street, or heading home in the car park at The West End.

Next, the hand goes for the cap it would have used on the old motor — since a rental car, a new car or a company car places the fillers somewhere your last one didn't.

No part halts the pour after it has started, because a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

Lamplands or the heart of Batley: it is the same few seconds in both.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

Before you tip anything, whether on a driveway in Upper Batley or a forecourt around Batley, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- Where it sits misleads; the cap does not. AdBlue ones are often blue or bear the name "AdBlue" — diesel ones normally do not.

- Look at the size: the smaller neck is, on plenty of vehicles, the AdBlue one.

- The flap. Look inside your fuel flap for a label. Plenty of cars say there which fuel goes where.

- The handbook says which it is when the filler isn't next to your diesel cap: your boot, or under the bonnet.

- Ask the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — when you collect a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park at the nearest station.

## How to top up without AdBlue in your diesel tank

Anywhere across West Yorkshire the light comes on, this is a routine for that day.

- Not in a rush on the side of Upper Commercial Street, not on a slope, not with your motor running: park and switch off first.

- Locate the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and say the name "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew it. It seems daft. It does the trick.

- Leave the diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Stop when that tank is topped up or the bottle runs dry; until then, tip slowly through its own spout.

- Before you start the vehicle, shut the cap and look a second time that your diesel cap never came off.

Stop there if you find, at stage two or three, that you've already poured into your diesel side.

Stage five stays out.

## Batley: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

The short order of things, starting with not starting the engine.

Leave your ignition off too, because on plenty of diesels switching it on alone starts the pump.

Topping up with diesel won't weaken it: instead, AdBlue drops to the bottom of that tank, just where the fuel is drawn from.

Ask the staff to help push the vehicle away from the petrol pump if you're at a forecourt — the Tesco, the BP or somewhere else.

If you're on your own drive in Batley, leave the car where it stands.

Already run? Pull over once it's sensible, then switch off.

The next junction means the place to come off when you're on the M62, under 3 miles from Batley.

Tell us roughly how far it went: a run towards Wakefield, under 10 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across Batley.

## What takes place when we arrive in Batley

Our engineers come to the vehicle wherever it has stopped, whether that is outside Batley Parish CofE Primary Academy, close to Yorkshire Children's Centre or on your own driveway.

Which liquid got in, the quantity, and if it ran: our engineers ask since the answers decide both work and quote.

You hear that price by phone, before anyone heads out.

Then your tank is emptied and the system flushed thoroughly.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't wash out on its own — which is why that matters more here than with petrol.

Once the fuel filter has been flushed — or renewed, where needed — clean diesel is added, and then the vehicle gets tested.

After that our engineers fire it up and make sure it runs properly before leaving.

Using pumps safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night, most jobs in which the motor has not run need roughly half an hour once our technicians arrive.

Payment happens on the day, not upfront, and you receive the documents your insurer asks for: an engineer report and a VAT invoice.

It is worth checking your insurance as the van travels to you: misfuelling cover comes with many policies.

## AdBlue drains round Batley, and West Yorkshire beyond

Batley is a riverside town, and our vans that cover it also work the places near it, Mount Pleasant and Carlinghow among them, across the WF postcode area.

A postcode starting WF17 5 gets the van to you fastest.

The vehicle doesn't need to shift.

A drive, a lay-by on the way to Batley Memorial Park, a side street close to Batley Central Methodist Church: our technicians drain the vehicle where it sits.

Ring and ask instead of guessing if you are close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, like the back of Batley Town Hall.

## For Batley drivers, the short version
