# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Bendooragh? Don't Start It

Motor off, ignition off: that is where you start if AdBlue has gone into your diesel tank.

Urea dissolved in water is all AdBlue is.

Not like fuel, it neither burns nor blends, and nothing happens till your engine sucks it round.

If your engine hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually emptied and carefully rinsed where the vehicle sits around Bendooragh.

Before anything, call us on 0333 366 0103.

## Your next steps straight away, Bendooragh: AdBlue in your diesel tank

Do:

- Keys out — that way nobody can switch anything on.

- If you're anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- Keep your receipt or the empty bottle, so you can tell us what went in and about how much.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting BT53 7, or the name of the closest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Things not to do:

- Don't start the engine, even for a moment to move the vehicle.

- Don't switch the ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- AdBlue doesn't dilute in diesel — it separates out — so adding extra diesel won't weaken it.

- Do not drive the vehicle anywhere, not even a short distance up Wallace Cottages.

- Don't try to drain the vehicle yourself at the roadside.

Rolling the car off the pumps is a job for staff to help with, whichever Bendooragh forecourt you are on, the the nearest petrol station included.

At your own drive, don't move it at all.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not your engine.

Stored in a dedicated tank, it's injected into the exhaust stream to treat the gases.

A fuel pump isn't designed to cope with it, and AdBlue was never intended to travel through one.

Tipped in with your diesel, it stays separate instead of mixing — entirely different from fuel.

It drops, because it is heavier than diesel, and settles low where the pickup takes its supply from.

Simplest of all: a vehicle that got AdBlue in Aghadowey overnight and hasn't been started since. The liquid sits at the base of your tank, untouched — though it will be first through if your motor runs, ahead of any diesel at all.

Two kinds of harm come from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it strands urea that crystallises in filters and tiny channels; and, since it attacks some metals, each part it touches suffers for as long as it remains in there.

Lines holding AdBlue mean harm overnight for a car sitting in Bendooragh. Only in the tank, it stays the same.

Water protects nothing. The injection pump and each injector need diesel flowing past them, so the water part harms them in its own right.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is frequently worse

Put petrol in a diesel at the another forecourt nearby and you have a fault of thin fuel.

Mixed into your diesel and sitting unused, it's harmless at that stage; running your motor is the harm.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally wrong substance.

Not burning, it cannot just be run through.

Whether the car sits in Ballybogy or the centre of Bendooragh, firing it up "to see" does more harm with AdBlue than nearly any other error, and the flush matters for more. Why: it will not stay blended, and so diluting it fails; and crystals and corrosion survive the next fill.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Clearing a tank is the easiest job on any fuel system, and without start-up, the AdBlue remains in it — anywhere in County Antrim your car has stopped.

## Bendooragh: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

After dark, two caps together — the AdBlue one and the diesel one, now and then behind one flap — may look the same. Nobody means it; many designs invite it.

Mostly it's not the filling station: someone picks up a container driving home and pours it in at home.

Mostly, it occurs in one of a couple of familiar ways.

The refill gets hurried outside the local primary school, because the dash lit up with a warning while the children were dropped in.

In the evening, a bottle goes in on a driveway close to Dunaverty Court.

Another pattern: dim light, the car park by the pub in the village, and someone opening that flap for the first time.

It crops up the most in a hire car, a brand-new car, a company car, or the spare motor of a family with one of each fuel types — the vehicles drivers use least.

Leave it switched off: that is the first response to an identical mistake, wherever around Bendooragh or the rest of County Antrim you are.

## Bendooragh: started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer inside the tank.

It's been pulled through your filter and the lines, and if your engine ran for any time, it has got to the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors.

Maybe coming back from the green space at the edge of the village, or part way across Bendooragh, your engine might run rough, smoke, lose pace, light up the dash or cut out.

Once you safely can, pull over then switch it off — with no turning it on again to see.

With each start, more of that is pulled through.

Exit the M77, over 50 miles from Bendooragh, at the next junction and park somewhere safe, rather than carrying on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue further in. That is why crossing Bendooragh to park beside the centre and a drive of under 50 miles towards Derry are such different jobs.

Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.

Wherever the vehicle came to a stop is where all of it gets done, even with more to clean out after the motor has been running.

If it is noticed early, long-term damage is very rare.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Bendooragh?

The car remains where it is, whether that's a street beside a street just off the centre, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt around Bendooragh, and the van comes to it.

Before anything else we ask what got in, about how much, and if your motor has run, since those replies decide this work.

Next, emptying the tank right there takes out the contaminated diesel along with the AdBlue together.

Residue from AdBlue won't flush away by itself, and so the whole system gets a full flush, which matters much more with urea than with petrol.

Fresh diesel goes in after the filter is flushed — or replaced, when it needs to be — and then the car is tested.

Roughly half an hour on site is typical for most jobs where the motor has not run.

Our equipment is explosion-proof, and so a live filling station is no problem, and it is quiet enough for a residential street after dark.

Finally, your system is primed with new diesel.

You set off as soon as we have started it, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive in Bendooragh or in a space outside the nearest station.

The test before our technicians go is that it runs smoothly on new diesel.

We do it all wherever the vehicle has ended up, and it never needs to go to a workshop.

You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report afterwards, which is what insurers ask for.

## AdBlue drains around Bendooragh and across County Antrim

Close to a boundary, or anywhere awkward to pin down? Asking beats assuming, and so ring.

No towing is needed. In Bendooragh, a small village, a van that comes to you works: the car is drained where it stands, be it in a driveway, a side street, a car park or a filling station.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right around Bendooragh

There is no fair single price, since the jobs aren't the same.

Whether your engine has run, and for how long, comes first in what changes the cost. How much AdBlue got in comes next, and then the location of your car, since an open drive is simpler for our van to get to safely than a tight gap behind the far end of the built-up part.

That's why each call from Bendooragh starts with the same three questions, asked before giving a figure, not after: what got in, how much, and whether it has run.

When those are answered, a range becomes a single firm number.

Before a van sets off, you hear our price by phone. Then payment is on the day, card or by phone, with nothing in advance.

As our engineer is on the way, dig out your policy: many cover misfuelling.

## Beside the vehicle in Bendooragh, still?

In that case, touch nothing — that is the most helpful step there is.

Keys out; motor and ignition off.

Tell us it was AdBlue, roughly how big an amount, and whether it ran, on 0333 366 0103. From there Petrol in Diesel takes over, across Bendooragh or anywhere within County Antrim.
