# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Brades Village: Why It Happens and How to Avoid It

Leave the motor and ignition off then phone 0333 366 0103 first — reading can wait when AdBlue is already in your diesel tank.

In Brades Village, finding it before your motor turns usually means a drain and a full flush where it stands.

Not happened yet? Below, the page covers the reasons it occurs and the ways to avoid it altogether.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel motor need its own filler?

Many newer diesels on the roads around Brades Village and Albion carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to your motor.

AdBlue's own tank holds it, and from there it goes to your exhaust, where a spray cleans the fumes.

Each tank has a filler of its own.

Many of vehicles share a single flap for both, while some put the AdBlue filler to the boot or under the bonnet.

Filling the diesel side at the pump happens all the time.

A driver who has to stop and work out where it goes normally tops up the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and much less regularly.

The error lives in that gap.

## How AdBlue in the diesel tank takes place in Brades Village

Three things tend to line up, and carelessness is rarely one of them.

On a drive off Hainge Road before work, or in the car park outside The George Bar & Cafe on the way home: that is where the rushed top-up takes place. Why the rush? As AdBlue gets low your car tells you, and once it is empty, limp mode kicks in.

Unfamiliar motors are next, as well. Hire cars, new vehicles and company vehicles place their fillers differently, and habit goes for the cap used on the old one.

Lastly, the bottle fits: diesel filler or AdBlue one, it goes in as readily, and once the tip begins, nothing stops it.

Whether it occurs in Tividale or the middle of Brades Village, it is the same few seconds.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

A couple of seconds is all these take — so check them before you tip anything, on a driveway in Greets Green or a forecourt in Brades Village.

- Read the cap rather than going by position: AdBlue ones are regularly blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel ones usually are not.

- On plenty of motors, the size gives it away: AdBlue has the smaller filler neck.

- Look inside your fuel flap: plenty of vehicles carry a label there showing which fuel goes where.

- The handbook. If your filler is not by the diesel cap, it's in your boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- The previous driver will know. Check when you collect a hire car or company car — at Sandwell & Dudley's car park, say — rather than once the light appears.

## Keeping AdBlue out of the diesel tank when you top up

When the light comes on, anywhere in West Midlands, follow this routine.

- Park and switch off. Not on a slope, not with your motor running, and not in a rush on the side of Fisher's Bridge.

- Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew the cap, after finding the AdBlue filler and read it. Silly, yes, yet it works.

- Leave the diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Slowly does it, through the bottle's own spout, till it's full or the bottle runs out.

- Before you start the car, shut the cap and look a second time that your diesel cap never came off.

Stop there if you find, at stage two or three, that you've already poured into the diesel side.

Don't carry on to step five.

## Brades Village: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Don't start the motor: that's where the short order of things begins.

The fuel pump runs on plenty of diesels the moment your ignition goes on — and so keep it off.

AdBlue does not mix with diesel — it sinks to the bottom of that tank, where your fuel is sucked from — so do not top up with diesel to thin it.

The staff at Shell, BP or another forecourt will usually lend a hand to push the vehicle away when you ask.

If you're on your own driveway in Brades Village, leave the car where it stands.

Stop as soon as it is safe then switch off, if your engine has already run.

Leave the M5 — under 3 miles out of Brades Village — at the first junction.

A short hop across Brades Village is a smaller job than a run towards Birmingham, under 10 miles away, and so tell us roughly how far it went.

## Brades Village: what happens when we get there

The van comes to your car wherever it stopped — your own drive, beside Oldbury Congregational Church, or by Tividale Community Primary School.

We ask what went in, roughly how much, and whether it has run, because the replies determine this work and our price.

You get that price by phone, before anyone heads out.

After that: a drain, then a thorough flush of the entire system.

With AdBlue that matters more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it doesn't wash out on its own.

A test is at the end: before that, fresh diesel is added, and your filter is cleaned or changed as needed.

Next our engineers fire it up and confirm it runs smoothly before we leave.

Using pumps safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night, most jobs where the motor has not run take roughly half an hour after our engineers arrive.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

Wrong-fuel cover is included in plenty of insurance policies — so use the wait to check yours.

## Brades Village and West Midlands: AdBlue drains across the area

Over B postcodes, the vans covering Brades Village — a residential suburb — work the nearby spots too, Grace Mary Estate and Rounds Green among them.

Quickest of all: give a B69 2 postcode to our van.

Your car doesn't need to shift.

Draining takes place on the spot, be it a drive, a road by Shri Venkateswara (Balaji) Temple, or a lay-by towards Black Country Millennium Forest.

Ring and ask rather than guessing if you're close to a border, or somewhere hard to explain, like the back of Zoroastrian Monument.

## In short, for Brades Village motorists
