# Don't Start It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Bradley

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then keep the engine off — and your ignition as well.

Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is.

It does not burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the damage it does begins when the system pulls it in.

If your motor has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally drained and carefully rinsed where your car stands in Bradley.

Ring 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## What to do right now, Bradley: AdBlue in the diesel tank

Do these:

- Keys out — that way no one can power anything on.

- Close to moving traffic? So put your hazards on.

- Which fluid, and roughly how much amount? Save the bottle or the receipt, and our technicians will know.

- Give us a postcode starting CA10 1, or whichever street is nearest, and the van reaches you straight — so ring wherever you are.

Things not to do:

- Do not start your engine, even for a moment to move the vehicle.

- The ignition stays off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to start the pump.

- Adding more diesel doesn't help: AdBlue settles out instead of thinning.

- Even a short stretch up Currah Close is too far to drive the vehicle.

- Emptying that tank yourself beside the road is not worth trying.

The staff working at any Bradley filling station — the the nearest petrol station among them — will usually lend a hand pushing it aside if you ask.

If you're on your own drive, leave the car exactly where it stands.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

The engine is not what AdBlue is made for; the exhaust is.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to fresh it.

Nothing inside an injection pump is made for this fluid — and none of it was intended to go that way.

It doesn't combine. Once it's poured into the tank, AdBlue acts nothing like diesel.

The pickup takes fuel from the lowest part of your tank, and that's exactly where AdBlue settles: being denser than diesel, it sinks.

The first thing the system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Row last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of the tank, and nothing has drawn it in.

From there it causes two kinds of damage.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it strands urea that crystallises in filter elements and narrow passages; and, since it attacks certain metals, every part it reaches keeps suffering for as long as it remains inside.

Lines holding AdBlue mean damage overnight for a vehicle parked in Bradley. Only in your tank, it stays the same.

Then there is the water: it offers no protection to the parts that need it most — the high-pressure pump and each injector.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is regularly more significant than petrol

Fill a diesel with petrol by mistake at the another forecourt nearby, and the problem is thinned fuel.

No damage comes while it stays unused, blended into the diesel — only when your motor runs on it.

AdBlue in a diesel is a different problem: not thin fuel, yet no fuel at all.

Not burning, it cannot simply be run through.

Whether the vehicle is in Crewgarth or the heart of Bradley, firing it up "to see" costs more in this case than almost any other slip, and the flush counts for more. Why: it won't remain mixed, and so watering it down is impossible; and deposits and corrosion outlast the following fill.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Never run? Then the AdBlue waits just in that tank, the easiest bit of the entire system to clear, wherever the car has stopped in Cumbria.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank in Bradley?

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of motors waits right next to your diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

Usually it's not the filling station: a driver picks up a container heading home and pours it in outside the house.

It tends to take place in a couple of familiar ways.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside Culgaith CofE School the top-up is rushed.

Near Meadow Close, someone pours a container in at home after work.

Or the car is topped up in the car park at The Fox, in poor light, by somebody who has never opened that flap before.

Hired motors, brand-new vehicles, company motors, or the second car in a family with both fuels: the least familiar vehicles get it most.

Leave it switched off: that's the first step to an identical slip, anywhere in Bradley or the remainder of Cumbria you happen to be.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Bradley, and the motor started?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

Given any running, it goes on to the high-pressure pump and every injector, after passing through the fuel filter and lines.

Watch for lumpy running, smoke, lost power, warnings on the dash, or a cut-out — returning from Gillbank Wood, say, or part way across Bradley.

Once you safely can, stop and switch it off — with no turning it on again to see.

Each start pulls more of that through.

If you were on the M6, under 10 miles from Bradley, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere sensible instead of pressing on.

Every mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in. That is why a hop across Bradley to park beside St Luke and a drive of under 25 miles towards Carlisle are very separate jobs.

Tell us about how far it had come.

Once your engine has been run, the flush includes more, and all of it is done where the vehicle has stopped.

Caught soon, it very rarely leaves permanent damage.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve around Bradley?

Anywhere it has stopped in Bradley — a forecourt, a layby, a drive, a street by Skirwith Village Hall — our van comes to the vehicle.

The work rests on three replies, which our engineers ask for before all else — what was put in, the quantity, and if the engine has turned over.

Then your tank is drained where the vehicle stands, and so the tainted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

With AdBlue, far more than with petrol, flushing counts: the whole system is cleaned right through because residue will not wash away unaided.

After that, the fuel filter: flushed, or replaced if it has to be. After that clean diesel, then a check of the vehicle.

About half an hour on site is typical for most jobs when the motor has not run.

Low-noise enough for use outside a house at night, and fine on a busy forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

Clean diesel goes in to prime your system, and that's the last step.

You head off as soon as we have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive in Bradley or in a space by Langwathby.

Before leaving, we make sure it is running smoothly with clean diesel in.

No garage is required at any point, with the whole job done on the spot.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers want.

## About Bradley itself

Bradley is a small suburban area situated on the riverside in Cumbria, with a mix of detached housing and a population of around 502 residents. Bradley sits at an elevation of 175 metres, near the villages of Ousby and Hole, and is approximately 18.6 miles from Carlisle. Bradley is located in the North West region of England, about 243.6 miles from London, and its riverside setting provides a distinctive character to the area. Bradley remains a quiet residential community with a strong sense of local identity.

## Bradley and Cumbria: AdBlue drains across the area

AdBlue jobs in Bradley go to vans that serve the places around it — Ousby, Hole as well as Shire — and much of Cumbria beyond, across CA postcodes.

Near a boundary, or anywhere awkward to explain? Asking is better than assuming, so phone.

Bradley is a residential suburb, and an on-site drain suits it: whether the vehicle is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our engineers drain it where it is, so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Bradley: the cost of fixing it

Because the callouts differ, a single price would not be fair.

Three things move the price: whether the engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where the car is. That last one comes down to whether a van can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight gap behind St John the Evangelist.

Ahead of a quote, not afterwards, every call from Bradley begins with three questions: the fuel, the amount, plus if the engine ran.

When those are answered, a range becomes a single firm figure.

Our price is quoted on the call, before a van leaves; settling up comes on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

While our engineer is on the way, check your insurance: many include misfuelling.

## Still beside your car around Bradley?

Right now, the best thing to do with the vehicle is to not touch it.

Keys out; motor and ignition off.

Say it's AdBlue, roughly how big an amount, and if it ran, on 0333 366 0103. From there Petrol in Diesel handles it, across Bradley or wherever within Cumbria.
