# Bramcote: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Avoid It?

AdBlue already in your diesel tank? In that case put this page aside for now, keep your ignition and motor off, then ring 0333 366 0103.

In Bramcote, catching it before your engine runs normally leaves draining and a thorough flush on the spot.

If you're reading before it has happened, the rest of this page is about why it takes place and how to make sure it does not.

## AdBlue in a diesel motor: two tanks, two fillers

Many modern diesels in Chilwell, as well as Bramcote, carry on two liquids; your engine takes only the diesel.

AdBlue goes to your exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to clean it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

Different tanks, different fillers.

Under one flap, side by side: that is the layout on a lot of cars. On others, AdBlue's filler sits under the bonnet or in your boot instead.

Diesel goes in on every filling station visit, week in, week out.

The AdBlue side is fuelled far less frequently, normally from a bottle, and usually by somebody who has to stop and think where it goes.

That gap is where the slip lives.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Bramcote: how it happens

It's seldom carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

Hurry follows from the warning. The car tells you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank puts it into limp mode — so the top-up gets done in a rush, before work on a driveway off Chapel Mews Court, or on the way home in the car park outside Sherwin Arms.

Unfamiliar motors come second, as well. Hire cars, new vehicles and company cars put their fillers in new places, and habit reaches for the cap used on the old one.

Third, the bottle goes in: a diesel filler or AdBlue filler, it slides in just as easily, and after the tip begins, nothing halts it.

The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Bramcote or out in Bramcote Hills.

## Telling the AdBlue filler from the diesel filler

A few seconds is all the checks take — so run through them before you pour anything, on a drive in Beeston or a forecourt in Bramcote.

- Colour and lettering: an AdBlue cap is frequently blue, or says "AdBlue", where a diesel cap normally does not. Trust the cap, not where it sits.

- Many motors give AdBlue the smaller filler of the two.

- Lift the filler flap and check for a label — plenty of cars mark what belongs in each filler right there.

- The handbook says which it lives if your filler isn't next to the diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- The person who drove the car last. On a hire or company car collected from somewhere like the car park at Beeston, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching your diesel tank

When the light goes on, anywhere around Nottinghamshire, follow this routine.

- Pull in somewhere level, motor off, with time to spare — not rushing on the side of Town Street.

- Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew the cap, once finding the AdBlue filler and read it. Silly, perhaps, yet it works.

- If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — then leave it on.

- Using the bottle's own spout, pour slowly — and stop when it is full or the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check again. Make sure your diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the vehicle.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Stage five stays out.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank already, in Bramcote?

What follows is a short order of things, beginning with not starting the engine.

Leave your ignition off too, since on plenty of diesels it by itself starts the pump.

Thinning it with extra diesel fails, because AdBlue sinks to the bottom instead of mixing — and that's where the fuel is pulled from.

Ask the attendants to help push your car away from the petrol pump if you're at a forecourt — the Esso, the BP or anywhere else.

Your own driveway in Bramcote is the place it stays.

Already run? Pull over when it is sensible, then turn off.

The next exit means the place to come off when you are on the M1, under 3 miles from Bramcote.

Mileage matters — a short hop across Bramcote makes a smaller job than driving under 5 miles towards Nottingham — so say roughly how far it went.

## What occurs when our technicians get there in Bramcote

Our van reaches the car anywhere it has come to rest — your own driveway, near Bramcote Methodist Church, or by Bramcote CofE Primary School.

Both the work and the quote rest on three replies — which liquid, what amount, and whether it has run — so we ask.

The quote is given over the phone, before any van leaves.

Emptying the tank comes next, then a thorough flush of the fuel system.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't wash out on its own.

After your filter is cleaned — or replaced, where needed — clean diesel is added, and finally the vehicle is tested.

Next our engineers start it and check it runs correctly before we leave.

Most jobs are done in roughly half an hour once our engineers get there, as long as your engine hasn't run — and the pumps we use are fine on a busy forecourt and quiet after dark beside a house.

Payment happens on the day, not upfront, and you receive the documents an insurer wants: an engineer's report and a VAT invoice.

Misfuelling cover is included in many insurance policies — so make use of the wait to check yours.

Bramcote remains a commuter base for Nottingham, with the city's amenities and services within easy reach.

## AdBlue drains in Bramcote and across Nottinghamshire

Bramcote is a residential suburb, and our vans that cover it also work the towns around it, Stapleford and Stanton Gate among them, across the NG postcode area.

A postcode starting NG9 3 gets the van to you fastest.

Your car stays put.

Our engineers drain it where it is — a side street near Bramcote Memorial Hall, a lay-by on the way to King George's Park, a driveway.

Tricky to pin down, like the back of St Michael & All Angels Church? Close to a county line? Asking beats guessing, and so ring.

## Bramcote drivers: the short version

Before you pour, read the cap.
