# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Bruche: Why It Occurs

Leave your engine and ignition off then ring 0333 366 0103 now — the rest can wait if AdBlue is already in your diesel tank.

Caught before the motor runs, it's usually a drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is around Bruche.

Not happened yet? Below, the rest of the page explains the why it occurs and the ways to prevent it altogether.

## AdBlue in a diesel car: two tanks, two fillers

Not one fluid but two: that is what plenty of newer diesels near Bruche and Woolston carry, with diesel for your engine.

AdBlue goes to the exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to clean it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

Every tank has one filler of its own.

Under one flap, next to each other: that's the layout on a lot of vehicles. On others, AdBlue's filler is beneath the bonnet or in your boot instead.

Diesel gets filled at each forecourt visit, again and again.

A driver who has to stop and think where it goes normally tops up the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less commonly.

The error lives in that gap.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Bruche: how it happens

Three things tend to line up, and carelessness is rarely one of them.

To start with, the warning. Low AdBlue triggers a warning from your car, and letting it run out leads to limp mode — hence a rushed top-up, perhaps before work off Wilkinson Avenue, or outside Dog & Partridge on the way home after work.

The old car's filler is where the hand reaches — but a rental car, a new car or a company car puts the fillers elsewhere. That is a second factor: an unfamiliar vehicle.

And the bottle fits. A bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one, and so nothing stops the tip after it has started.

The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Bruche or out in Paddington.

## Telling the AdBlue filler from the diesel filler

Look at these first, on a forecourt around Bruche or a driveway out in Howley. A few seconds, that's all.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is often blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap normally isn't. Read it rather than going by where it sits.

- Look at the size: the smaller neck is, on many vehicles, the AdBlue one.

- A label inside your fuel flap often shows which fuel goes where, on many vehicles. Look for it.

- The handbook. If your filler isn't by your diesel cap, it is in the boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- Picking up a hire or company car, say at the car park outside Padgate? Ask the person who drove it last before you set off, not once the light comes on.

## How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank

When the light goes on, wherever in Cheshire, use this routine.

- Stop somewhere level, engine off, with time in hand — not hurried on the side of Larkfield Avenue.

- Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew the cap, once you find the AdBlue filler and read it. Silly, yes, but it works.

- The diesel cap stays on. Where both share a flap, confirm it is closed before lifting the bottle.

- Stop when your tank is topped up or the bottle is empty; before that, tip slowly through its built-in spout.

- Only after that, start the vehicle: close the cap, check again, and make sure the diesel cap was never opened.

Stop there if you find, at stage two or three, that you have already poured into your diesel side.

Never carry on to step five.

## Put AdBlue in the diesel tank around Bruche already?

What follows is a short order of things, beginning with no starting the engine.

The fuel pump runs on plenty of diesels the moment your ignition is switched on — and so leave it off.

Thinning it with more diesel won't work, because AdBlue sinks to the bottom rather than blending — and that's where your fuel is drawn from.

If you're at a forecourt, whether it is the EG On the Move or the Esso, ask the attendants to help roll the vehicle away from the pump.

If you're on your own driveway around Bruche, leave the vehicle where it stands.

Already started? Stop when it's safe, then switch off.

Bruche sits under 3 miles from the M6; there, take the first junction.

About how far did it go? Hopping across Bruche is smaller a job than a run of under 15 miles towards Salford, and so say.

## Our arrival around Bruche, and what happens next

Our van reaches the vehicle anywhere it has come to rest — your own driveway, near Old Billy, or by Bruche Academy.

The answers decide this work and the quote, so we ask what was put in, about how much, and whether it has run.

Nobody heads out before you have heard our quote by phone.

Then that tank is emptied and the system rinsed thoroughly.

Unlike petrol, AdBlue leaves crystals and attacks some fuel-system metals, and neither clears away by itself. That is why it counts more.

After the fuel filter has been flushed — or renewed, where required — clean diesel goes in, and then your vehicle gets tested.

Then we start the car and make sure it runs correctly before leaving.

With pumps safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough for use outside a house at night, most jobs in which your motor has not run need roughly half an hour once our engineers arrive.

The insurer will ask for the engineer's report and the VAT invoice, and both are yours once this job is done. Payment comes on the day, with no deposit.

While we travel, take a look at your policy; many include cover for misfuelling.

## AdBlue drains round Bruche, and Cheshire beyond

Bruche is a residential suburb, and the teams that cover it also work the towns around it, Padgate and Westy among them, across the WA postcode area.

A postcode starting WA1 3 gets the van to you fastest.

The car stays put.

Anywhere it stands — beside Total Eclipse of the Art Gallery, in a layby en route to Paddington Meadows, at home — that is where it gets cleared.

Tricky to explain, like the back of Saint Oswald's Roman Catholic Church? Close to a county line? Asking beats guessing, and so ring.

## For Bruche drivers, the short version

Read the cap before you tip.

Still AdBlue in the diesel tank? Petrol in Diesel will drain it wherever it stands, anywhere across Cheshire: keep the car off then ring 0333 366 0103.
