# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Bude? Keep It Switched Off

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then keep the motor off — and your ignition too.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

It does not burn, it doesn't mix with diesel, and the damage it does begins when your fuel system draws it in.

In Bude, AdBlue in a diesel tank caught before the engine runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, right where the vehicle is.

No step comes before ringing 0333 366 0103.

## Bude, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do at once

Do these:

- Pocket the keys, which prevents anyone switching the power on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is anywhere close.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the product and the quantity, and so don't throw it away.

- Give us a postcode starting EX23 8, or whichever street is closest, and the van finds you directly — so ring wherever you are.

Not to do:

- No starting your motor — not briefly, not to reposition the vehicle.

- Switching your key to ignition alone starts the pump running on many diesels. Avoid it.

- Do not top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Don't drive the car anywhere, not even a short way up Belle Vue Lane.

- No emptying it yourself, at all, at the verge.

The staff on duty at any Bude forecourt — the Shell among them — will usually lend a hand pushing it aside if you ask.

At home, your car stays just as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

The engine isn't what AdBlue is made for; the exhaust is.

Kept in a dedicated tank, it's injected into the exhaust stream to clean the fumes.

Neither side fits the other: urea doesn't belong in an injection pump, and an injection pump cannot deal with urea.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves really differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in.

Denser than diesel, it drops and collects underneath it — the same spot the pickup sucks from.

The first thing the system pulls through, once it runs, is the AdBlue. So a vehicle that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Hillhead last night, and hasn't been started since, is still the simple case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of the tank, and nothing has sucked it in.

It does two kinds of damage from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps running on the components it hits for as long as it remains there.

A motor left standing in Bude with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue only in its tank isn't.

The water in it causes damage of its own: the high-pressure fuel pump and the fuel injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water offers them nothing.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is commonly worse

Top up a diesel with petrol in error at the Morrisons, and the problem is thinned fuel.

It mixes with your diesel, and whilst it is in the tank it does no damage; the harm comes from running your motor on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid itself is plainly the wrong one.

It cannot simply be run through, because it does not burn.

It does not stay mixed, so it can't be weakened. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting your motor "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether the car is in Poughill or the middle of Bude.

The same good news applies as with petrol.

If your motor hasn't run, the AdBlue is still inside that tank, and the tank is the easiest part of a fuel system to clear, wherever around Cornwall the car is standing.

## How does AdBlue end up in a diesel tank around Bude?

After dark, two caps together — the AdBlue one and the diesel cap, now and then under a single flap — can look the same. Nobody means it; many layouts invite it.

Most of the time it happens with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the drive, not at the forecourt.

A few familiar ways account for the majority of them.

The top-up is hurried outside Bude Primary Academy - Infants, after your dash lit up with a warning while the kids were taken in.

Near Hartland Terrace, someone tips a container in on that drive in the evening.

Another version: dim light, the car park by The Barrel Bude, and someone using that flap for the first time.

The least familiar cars get it most — hire cars, brand-new cars, fleet ones, and the spare motor of a family with one of each fuels.

Keep it off: that's the first step to an identical mistake, wherever around Bude or the remainder of Cornwall you are.

## Already started the engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Bude?

The AdBlue has left the tank, then.

The filter and lines have had it pulled along, and some running time takes it on to the high-pressure pump and each injector.

Lumpy running, smoke from the exhaust, dropping power, dashboard warnings or stalling: each may appear, maybe part way across Bude or returning from The Triangle.

Stop when safe. Switch off. Keep it off instead of restarting it to check.

Each start pulls more of it through.

Leave the M5, under 50 miles from Bude, by the first junction and stop safely, rather than carrying on.

Each mile carries the AdBlue further into your system. That is why a hop across Bude to park beside Bude Central Methodist Church and a drive of under 50 miles for Plymouth are very distinct jobs.

Approximately how far had it come? Tell us.

There's more to flush once the motor has run, and we do all of it where the vehicle has ended up.

Spotted soon, it very seldom leaves permanent damage.

## Bude: how AdBlue is drained from a diesel

We come to the vehicle, wherever it has stopped in Bude: a side street close to The Strand Shopping Centre, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

The work rests on three answers, which our technicians get first — which fluid was put in, the amount, and if your motor has turned over.

Next, emptying your tank on the spot takes out the contaminated diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

Residue from AdBlue will not wash out unaided, so the whole system gets a careful flush, which counts much more here than for petrol.

Fresh diesel goes in after the fuel filter is flushed — or replaced, if it needs to be — and after that the car is tested.

Roughly half an hour once we arrive is usual for most jobs when your engine has not run.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Fresh diesel goes in to prime the fuel system, and that is the last step.

At that point we fire it up and you head off, whether from a parking bay at the nearest station or a driveway in Bude.

We check it runs smoothly on fresh diesel before leaving.

The whole job is done where the vehicle is, so it never needs to be taken to a workshop.

Insurers want a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come afterwards.

## About Bude, for a moment

Bude is a coastal town situated in the northern part of Cornwall, England. It is located where the River Neet meets the sea, creating a distinctive setting. Bude is known for its seaside location, making it a notable spot in the region. The town's scenic position has contributed to its historical significance.

## AdBlue drains in Bude and across Cornwall

AdBlue jobs around Bude are passed to teams that serve the places around it — Flexbury, Crooklets as well as Lynstone — and most of Cornwall beyond, across EX postcodes.

Guessing doesn't help close to a county line or anywhere hard to pin down; phone and check.

No towing is needed. In Bude, a coastal town, a mobile service fits: your vehicle is drained where it stands, be it in a driveway, a side street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Bude

Because each jobs differ, a single figure would not be fair.

Three things change the price: whether the motor has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the car is. That last one rests on whether a van can reach it safely, and an open drive is easier than a tight spot behind Bude Light.

For that in mind, every call from Bude opens with the same trio — which fluid was put in, what quantity, whether it ran — before a figure.

Once they are answered, a range becomes one fixed number.

Our price is given on the call, before anyone sets off; settling up happens on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Misfuelling cover comes with many insurance policies, so it pays to look at yours before the van gets there.

## Beside your car around Bude, right now?

Right now, the best thing to do with the car is to leave it.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, and whether it ran is all our engineers need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest across Cornwall, Bude included.
