# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Bull Hey? Don't Start It

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then keep the motor off — and your ignition as well.

Urea dissolved in water is all AdBlue is.

The harm begins once it's sucked through the pump — it will not burn, and it won't blend with diesel.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Bull Hey, is normally what AdBlue in a diesel tank takes — if it's caught before your engine has been run.

Before you do anything else, ring 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank around Bull Hey

Do these:

- Keys out — then no one can power anything on.

- If you're anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazards on.

- Keep your receipt or the empty bottle, so you can tell us what got in and roughly how much.

- Call right where you are. Quote a WN1 1 postcode or the nearest street sign, and no one has to hunt for you.

Things not to do:

- No starting the engine — not briefly, not to shift the vehicle.

- Many diesels power their pump the moment your ignition comes on, so keep the car off.

- Do not top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel; it separates out.

- Leave it where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short stretch up Bull Hey.

- Beside the road, do not attempt emptying it on your own.

On a forecourt around Bull Hey, whether it's the Tesco or another one, ask the staff to help you roll the vehicle away from the petrol pump.

Stopped on your own drive? Then it stays just as it is.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not your engine.

Kept in a separate tank, it's squirted into the exhaust to treat the fumes.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is made to handle it.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, once poured in, will not. The behaviour is nothing like diesel's.

It sinks, because it's heavier than diesel, and pools low where the pickup takes its supply from.

The first thing your fuel system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Springfield last night, and has not been started since, is still the straightforward case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has pulled it in.

Once it is pulled in, the damage takes two forms.

What is left once the water goes is urea, which forms crystals: they settle in tiny channels and block filters. Worse, it attacks some metals in a fuel system, and keeps going till it is flushed out.

Pipes holding AdBlue spell damage overnight for a vehicle parked in Bull Hey. Only in that tank, it stays stable.

Then there's the water: it brings no lubrication to the parts that need it the most — the injection pump and each injector.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel frequently the bigger issue?

Top up a diesel with petrol by mistake over at the Asda, and this issue is thinned fuel.

It mixes with your diesel, and whilst it's inside your tank it causes no damage; the harm comes from running the engine on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid itself is plainly the wrong one.

It can't just be run through, because it does not burn.

It doesn't stay mixed, and so it cannot be thinned. And crystals and corrosion don't wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush counts more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting your motor "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether the car is in Swinley or the middle of Bull Hey.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Clearing a tank is the easiest job on a fuel system, and without start-up, the AdBlue remains in there — anywhere in Greater Manchester your vehicle sits.

## Bull Hey: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

Many motors put the AdBlue cap alongside the diesel cap, occasionally under a single flap, and in dim light the two may look the same. Nobody means it.

It usually takes place at home, from a container grabbed on the journey home, rather than at the forecourt.

The ways it happens are few and familiar.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside St Mary and St John Catholic Primary School.

Near Spring Gardens, a driver tips a container in at home in the evening.

Else, in dim light outside Tudor House Hotel, your car gets refilled by a driver using that flap for the first time.

It comes up the most in a hire car, a new vehicle, a fleet motor, or the other car of a home with both fuels — the vehicles people use the least.

Keep it off: that is the first response to an identical slip, anywhere around Bull Hey or the remainder of Greater Manchester you are.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Bull Hey, and the motor started?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

It has been sucked through the filter and the lines, and if your motor ran for any time, it has got to your high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors.

You may see your motor running unevenly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, maybe on the way back from Wigan Cricket Club or halfway across Bull Hey.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and don't restart it to check.

Every start pulls more of that through.

Leave the M6, under 3 miles from Bull Hey, by the first junction and stop somewhere safe, not driving on.

How far it went matters. A few hundred yards across Bull Hey to the car park by The Wheel is a very different job from a run towards Preston, under 15 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the fuel system with each mile.

Roughly how far had it come? Tell us.

We do all of the rinsing where your car has stopped, and once the motor has run there is more of it.

Lasting damage is very uncommon when it's spotted quickly.

## Draining AdBlue in a diesel in Bull Hey: what it takes

The car remains where it is, whether that's a road beside Drumcroon Gallery, a drive, a layby or a filling station around Bull Hey, and the van travels to it.

Three replies decide the job, so first our engineers ask what was put in, roughly what quantity, and if your engine has run.

Then that tank is cleared where the car stands, so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

With AdBlue, far more than with petrol, the flush counts: the fuel system is cleaned all the way through since residue will not flush out by itself.

Clean diesel goes in once the fuel filter is flushed — or replaced, when it needs to be — and then the vehicle is tested.

Roughly half an hour once we arrive is typical for most jobs where your engine hasn't run.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Priming the fuel system with new diesel comes at the end.

Firing it up comes next, and then you drive off from where your car is parked, by Wigan Wallgate or on a driveway in Bull Hey.

Before we go, our engineers check it is running properly with fresh diesel in.

Our technicians do it all wherever your car has stopped, and it never needs to go to a workshop.

Your insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — each handed over once this job is done.

Bull Hey is a suburban area in Greater Manchester, situated on the riverside at an elevation of 37 metres. Bull Hey is located near several nearby places, including Wallgate, Wigan, and Water Heyes, and is approximately 14.8 miles from Preston. Bull Hey has a population of around 5153 people and is characterised by predominantly terraced housing. Bull Hey is also relatively distant from London, at 176.1 miles away.

## Bull Hey and Greater Manchester: AdBlue drains across the area

AdBlue call-outs around Bull Hey are passed to vans that cover the towns near it — Wallgate, Wigan as well as Water Heyes — and most of Greater Manchester further out, throughout WN postcodes.

Close to a boundary, or anywhere tricky to explain? Asking is better than guessing, and so phone.

Bull Hey is a residential suburb, and a mobile drain suits it: whether the car is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, we drain it where it stands, and so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Bull Hey

Since the callouts differ, a single price wouldn't be honest.

The cost shifts first with how long, if at all, the engine has been running, and next with the quantity of AdBlue that got in. After that it depends on where the car is and whether a van can reach it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight gap behind Wigan Youth Zone.

What went in, how much, plus whether it ran: every Bull Hey enquiry begins by asking precisely that, before any figure, not after.

Once they are answered, a range becomes a single firm figure.

The quote is given on the call, before a van leaves; settling up comes on the day, by card or by phone, and nothing upfront.

Look at your insurance whilst we're on the way: many carry misfuelling cover.

## In Bull Hey and still beside the vehicle?

Then, the most helpful thing to do with your car is to leave it.

Ignition off, engine off, keys out.

Ring 0333 366 0103 then tell us it's AdBlue, roughly how much, and whether it's run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Bull Hey or anywhere across Greater Manchester.
