# Preventing AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Caerphilly: Why It Occurs

AdBlue already in the diesel tank? Then put this page down for now, keep your ignition and motor off, then ring 0333 366 0103.

A drain and a full flush, done just where your car sits in Caerphilly, is normally what it takes if found before the engine runs.

The rest of this page explains why it takes place and how to ensure it doesn't — handy if you're reading before it has happened.

## AdBlue in a diesel vehicle, and its separate tank

Diesel goes to your motor — but plenty of modern diesels seen around Caerphilly and Van hold a second liquid too.

AdBlue's own tank keeps it, and from there it goes to the exhaust, where spraying cleans the fumes.

Each tank has its own filler.

On a lot of cars the two sit side by side under the same flap; on others the AdBlue filler is in your boot or under the bonnet.

At the pump, your diesel side is topped up constantly.

The AdBlue side is topped up far less commonly, usually from a bottle, and usually by a person who has to stop and think where it goes.

The slip lives in that gap.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Caerphilly: how it occurs

It's seldom carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

The warning comes first. As AdBlue runs low the vehicle tells you, and if it runs out completely, your vehicle drops into limp mode. So the top-up is done in a hurry: on a drive off The Twyn before work, or in the car park at Brew Monster on the way home.

Then the car is strange. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and your hand hits for the cap it would have used on the old one.

Lastly, the bottle fits: a diesel filler or AdBlue filler, it slides in just as readily, and after the tip begins, no part halts it.

The same few seconds decide it, in the middle of Caerphilly or out in Denscombe.

## Telling the AdBlue filler from the diesel filler

Before you pour anything, whether on a drive in Lansbury Park or a forecourt in Caerphilly, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- Colour and marking: an AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or says "AdBlue", where a diesel cap normally doesn't. Trust the cap, not its position.

- The size. On many vehicles the AdBlue filler neck is the smaller of the two.

- Check inside the fuel flap: plenty of motors carry a label there showing which fuel goes where.

- In the boot or under the bonnet: that's where your filler is if it's not by the diesel cap, and the handbook says which.

- The previous driver will know. Ask as you collect a rental or fleet car — at the nearest station's car park, say — not once the warning comes on.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach the diesel tank

Anywhere around Caerphilly the light comes on, here is a routine for that day.

- Not in a rush on the side of Market Street, not on a slope, not with the motor running: park and switch off properly.

- Find the AdBlue filler, check the cap, and say the word "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew it. It sounds silly. It does the trick.

- The diesel cap remains on. When both sit under a flap, confirm it is shut before lifting the bottle.

- Tip slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it is full or when the bottle is empty.

- Before starting your car, close the cap and look a second time that your diesel cap never came off.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Step five stays off limits.

## Caerphilly: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Do not start the motor: that is how the short order of things starts.

Keep the ignition off too, since on plenty of diesels switching it on by itself runs your pump.

AdBlue does not mix with diesel — it sinks to the bottom of that tank, where your fuel is pulled from — so do not top up with diesel to thin it.

At a forecourt — Morrisons, Texaco or any other — the staff will normally help push the car away, when you ask.

At home in Caerphilly? Then the vehicle stays put.

If your engine has already run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off.

Caerphilly sits under 3 miles from the M4; there, take the next junction.

A short hop across Caerphilly is a smaller job than a run towards Cardiff, under 10 miles away, so tell us roughly how far it went.

## Our arrival in Caerphilly, and what happens next

The van reaches the vehicle wherever it stopped — your own drive, beside Caerphilly Library, or outside the local primary school.

Our technicians ask what was put in, roughly how much, and whether it has run, because those replies decide this work and the price.

Nobody sets off before you've heard our price by phone.

Then your tank is cleared and the fuel system purged thoroughly.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it does not wash out on its own.

A test comes at the end: before that, fresh diesel is added, and your filter is cleaned or changed if necessary.

We don't go until it has been fired up and is running smoothly.

With pumps fine on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night, most jobs in which the engine hasn't run need roughly half an hour once our engineers arrive.

Your insurer will ask for the engineer's report and the VAT invoice, and you get both at the end. Payment comes on the day, with no money upfront.

Misfuelling cover is part of many insurance policies — and so use the wait to check yours.

## About Caerphilly

Caerphilly is a town situated in the southern part of Wales, on the banks of the Rhymney River at an elevation of 93 metres. Caerphilly lies close to the capital city of Cardiff, approximately 6.7 miles to the southeast, and is surrounded by nearby places such as Denscombe and Castle Park. Caerphilly has a population of around 18,797 people, predominantly living in semi-detached housing. Caerphilly is located about 132.9 miles west of London, making it a commuter town with good transport links.

## Caerphilly and Caerphilly: AdBlue drains across the area

Castle Park and St Martins are among the places near Caerphilly, a riverside town, that the same vans cover, throughout CF postcodes.

Quickest of all: give a CF83 1 postcode for our van.

Shifting your car is not needed.

Wherever it sits — near Twyn Community Centre, on a layby heading to Dafydd Williams Park, at home — that's where it gets cleared.

If you're close to a border, or somewhere hard to explain like the back of Welsh Anthem and Dragon, ring and ask instead of assuming.

## In short, for Caerphilly motorists

Tip no AdBlue till you've read the cap.

If AdBlue has gone in the diesel tank regardless, leave it off and ring 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel clears it where it stands, anywhere across Caerphilly.
