# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Cladymore? Keep It Switched Off

With AdBlue in the diesel tank, the ignition stays off and so does the engine.

In plain terms, AdBlue is just urea in water.

Unlike fuel, it neither burns nor mixes, and nothing starts till your motor sucks it round.

Caught before the engine has run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is around Cladymore.

Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.

## Your next steps right now, Cladymore: AdBlue in your diesel tank

Things to do:

- So nobody can turn the ignition on, pull your keys away.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all near.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the product and the amount, so don't bin it out.

- Tell us a postcode starting BT60 2, or whichever street lies closest, and our van reaches you directly — so ring wherever you are.

Do not do these:

- Not even briefly, and not to roll the vehicle: your motor stays off.

- Do not switch the ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- Adding extra diesel does not help: AdBlue settles out instead of blending.

- Don't drive it anywhere, not even a short way along Heugh Road.

- Draining that tank yourself beside the road is not worth trying.

The staff working at any Cladymore filling station — the the nearest petrol station included — will usually lend a hand pushing it clear if you ask.

On your own driveway, don't touch it at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Not your engine but your exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

Its own reservoir keeps it, and from there it is sprayed into your exhaust, where it treats the gas.

Nothing in it is meant to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is designed to handle it.

Poured in with the diesel, it keeps apart instead of mixing — entirely unlike fuel.

It's heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and collects at the bottom of that tank, which is where the pickup draws fuel from.

The first thing the fuel system pulls through, after it runs, is the AdBlue. So a motor that had AdBlue poured in on a drive in Whitecross last night, and has not been started since, is still the easy case: the AdBlue is lying at the bottom of your tank, and nothing has pulled it in.

Once it is sucked in, the harm comes in two forms.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps running on the parts it reaches for as long as it stays there.

Lines carrying AdBlue mean harm by morning for a car sitting in Cladymore. Just inside your tank, it stays stable.

The water in it causes harm of its own: your high-pressure pump and your injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is regularly more serious than petrol

An issue of thinned fuel is what you get from fuelling a diesel with petrol at the another forecourt nearby.

Harm only comes from driving on it. Blended into your diesel and left inside that tank, it does nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel is an issue of the wrong substance altogether.

Not burning, it can't simply be run through.

Crystals and corrosion stay after the next tankful, and AdBlue splits again from the diesel, and so watering it can't work. That is why the flush counts more, and turning your key "to see" costs more with AdBlue than almost any other slip — in Ballymacnab or the centre of Cladymore alike.

With AdBlue, the good news is no separate from petrol.

Not started? Then the AdBlue sits just inside the tank, the easiest bit of the whole system to clear, anywhere the vehicle has stopped around County Armagh.

## Cladymore: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

After dark, two caps side by side — the AdBlue cap and the diesel cap, now and then under a single flap — can appear the same. No one intends it; plenty of designs invite it.

It mostly happens outside the house, from a container bought on the journey home, rather than at the filling station.

The ways it takes place are few and familiar.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside the local primary school the top-up is hurried.

Close to South Crescent, someone pours a container in on the drive in the evening.

Or a driver new to that flap refills the vehicle after dark, stopped in the car park by the pub in the village.

Rented motors, new motors, fleet motors, or the spare vehicle in a family with both fuels: the least known cars get it most.

Leave it off: that is the first step to the same slip, wherever in Cladymore or the remainder of County Armagh you happen to be.

## Cladymore: started your engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Then the AdBlue has left your tank.

The filter and lines have had it sucked through, and any running time carries it on to the high-pressure pump and every injector.

You may notice your engine running roughly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, maybe on the way back from the green space at the edge of the village or halfway across Cladymore.

No restarting to test: pull over once safe, then switch everything off.

Each start pulls more of that through.

Exit the M77, over 50 miles from Cladymore, at the first junction and park safely, rather than driving on.

How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Cladymore to the car park by the centre is a very different job from a run towards Armagh, under 10 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with every mile.

Roughly how far it had come is worth telling us.

Wherever your car came to a stop is where all of it gets done, even with more to rinse out after the engine has been running.

If it's noticed soon, permanent damage is very rare.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve around Cladymore?

The vehicle stays where it is, whether that is a road beside a street just off the centre, a driveway, a layby or a filling station around Cladymore, and our van travels to it.

The job depends on three answers, and our technicians get before all else — which fluid went in, the quantity, and if your engine has run.

Then that tank is drained where the vehicle sits, so the tainted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

Residue from AdBlue will not wash away by itself, so the whole system gets a careful flush, which counts much more with urea than with petrol.

After that, the filter: cleaned, or replaced if it must be. Then clean diesel, and then a test of your vehicle.

About half an hour once we arrive is usual for most jobs where your motor has not run.

Low-noise enough for use outside a house at night, and fine on a working forecourt, our pumps are explosion-proof.

Clean diesel goes in to bleed the system, and that is the last step.

You head off as soon as our engineers have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether your car is on a drive around Cladymore or in a bay by the nearest station.

Before we go, our technicians confirm it's running correctly with clean diesel in.

Since the job is done in full where the car is, a workshop never comes into it.

Afterwards, you are given paperwork for the insurer: a VAT invoice and a written report from the engineer.

## Cladymore: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

No flat figure would be fair, because every job is different.

Whether the motor has been running, and for how long, comes first in what changes the price. How much AdBlue got in comes next, and then the position of your car, because an open drive is simpler for our van to reach safely than a tight gap behind the far end of the built-up part.

For that in mind, each call from Cladymore opens with the identical trio — which fluid got in, what quantity, whether the engine ran — ahead of any figure.

Those answers turn a range into a straight quote.

Quoted by phone before the van sets out, the job is paid for on the day — card or phone, nothing in advance.

Look at your policy whilst we're on the way: many carry misfuelling cover.

## Cladymore: still beside the car?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to your car.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.
