# Culcabock: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Avoid It?

AdBlue already in your diesel tank? In that case put this page down a moment, keep the ignition and engine off, and call 0333 366 0103.

A drain and a thorough flush, done just where your car stands in Culcabock, is normally all it needs when found before your engine runs.

Nothing happened yet? Below, the page explains the reasons it happens and the ways to avoid it for good.

## AdBlue in a diesel motor, and its separate tank

Many newer diesels around Hilton, like those in Culcabock, carry on two fluids; your engine takes only the diesel.

AdBlue goes to the exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to fresh it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

Every tank comes with a filler of its own.

Other vehicles keep the AdBlue filler in your boot or under the bonnet; plenty more place both side by side under one flap.

The diesel side is topped up at the pump all the time.

Much less commonly, the AdBlue side gets filled — normally from a bottle, by a person thinking about where it goes.

Mistakes happen in that gap between them.

## How AdBlue in the diesel tank happens in Culcabock

It's hardly ever carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

First, the warning. Low AdBlue brings a warning from your car, and letting it run dry means limp mode — hence a hurried top-up, perhaps before work off B9006, perhaps outside The Fluke on the way home that evening.

The old car's cap is where your hand reaches — yet a hire car, a new motor or a company car puts the fillers elsewhere. That is the second thing: an unfamiliar motor.

A spouted bottle meets no obstacle at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. So the tip, after begun, keeps on.

Whether it occurs in Raigmore or the middle of Culcabock, it is the same few seconds.

## The AdBlue filler and the diesel filler: telling them apart

Before you tip anything, whether on a drive in Haugh or a forecourt in Culcabock, check these. They take a few seconds.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is often blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap usually is not. Read it instead of going by where it sits.

- On plenty of vehicles, size tells: AdBlue has the smaller filler neck.

- Lift the filler flap and check for a label — many motors mark which goes in each filler just there.

- The handbook says where it lives if the filler is not next to the diesel cap: your boot, or under the bonnet.

- Whoever had it before knows. Check as you pick up a rental or fleet car — from Inverness's car park, perhaps — not once the light appears.

## Keeping AdBlue out of the diesel tank when you top up

A routine for the day the light comes on, wherever across Highland that is.

- Pull in on level, engine off, with time to spare — not hurried on the side of Old Perth Road.

- Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew the cap, once finding the AdBlue filler and read it. Daft, perhaps, yet it does the trick.

- Both behind a single flap? So make sure the lid on the diesel side stays shut before lifting the bottle.

- Using the bottle's own spout, tip slowly — and stop when it's full or the bottle is empty.

- Shut the cap, and check again — confirm the diesel filler stayed closed the whole time. After that, start the vehicle.

Find at the second or third stage that AdBlue went into the diesel tank? That's where you stop.

Don't go on to stage five.

## Already put AdBlue in your diesel tank around Culcabock?

The short order of things, starting with not starting the motor.

On many diesels your ignition alone runs the fuel pump, so don't switch the car on.

Don't top up with diesel to thin it: AdBlue does not mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of the tank, where the fuel is sucked from.

If you are at a forecourt, whether it's the Shell or the Tesco, ask the attendants to help roll the car clear of the pump.

If you are on your own driveway around Culcabock, leave the car where it stands.

Stop as soon as it is safe and switch off, if the motor has already run.

On the M90, over 50 miles from Culcabock, that means the next junction.

About how far did it go? Hopping across Culcabock is less work than a trip of under 3 miles towards Inverness, so tell us.

## What occurs when we get there around Culcabock

Anywhere the vehicle has stopped, be it outside the local primary school, beside King Duncan's Well or at home, the van travels to it.

Both the work and the price depend on three replies — which liquid, which amount, and if it's run — so our technicians ask.

On the call itself, you hear our quote — before anything else.

Then that tank is cleared and the system flushed thoroughly.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not wash out on its own — which is why the flush counts more here than with petrol.

The filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the car is tested.

We do not go until it has been fired up and is running smoothly.

If your motor hasn't run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once we're there, using pumps that are safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

While we travel, have a look at your insurance documents; many include cover for misfuelling.

## AdBlue drains in Culcabock and across Highland

Over IV postcodes, the teams that cover Culcabock — a residential suburb — work the nearby locations too, Millburn and Crown among them.

Fastest of all: quote a IV2 3 postcode to the van.

The vehicle remains put.

Wherever it stands — beside King Duncan's Grave, on a layby en route to Inverness Golf Club, on a drive — that's where it gets emptied.

If you're near a border, or somewhere hard to describe like the back of Inverness Burgh Police War Memorial, ring and ask instead of assuming.

## The short version for Culcabock drivers

Before you pour, read the cap.
