# Dalmarnock: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Prevent It?

AdBlue already in your diesel tank? In that case put this page aside for now, keep the ignition and motor off, and call 0333 366 0103.

In Dalmarnock, catching it before the motor turns normally leaves draining and a thorough flush where it stands.

Here in advance? In that case the rest explains why it happens and how to prevent it happening at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel vehicle: two tanks, two fillers

Diesel goes to your motor — but many modern diesels seen about Dalmarnock and Bridgeton carry another fluid too.

AdBlue's own tank holds it, and from there it is sent to your exhaust, where spraying treats the fumes.

Each tank has its own filler.

On a lot of motors the two sit side by side under the same flap; on others the AdBlue filler is in the boot or under the bonnet.

At the pump, the diesel side gets filled all the time.

Seldom topped up, AdBlue usually comes out of a bottle, poured by someone who has to stop and think which filler to use.

The slip lives in that gap.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Dalmarnock: how it occurs

Carelessness rarely explains it. Instead is three things lining up together.

On a drive off Dalmarnock Road before work, or in the car park at Park Lane Tavern on the way home: that is where the rushed top-up takes place. What is the reason for the rush? As AdBlue runs low the vehicle tells you, and once it's empty, limp mode follows.

The old car's filler is where your hand goes — yet a rental car, a new motor or a company car keeps the fillers elsewhere. That's a second factor: a strange vehicle.

A spouted bottle meets no obstacle at a diesel filler any more than at an AdBlue one. So the tip, after begun, carries on.

It's seconds, whether in Farm Cross or right in the centre of Dalmarnock.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

A couple of seconds is all these take — so check them before you pour anything, on a driveway in Barrowfield or a forecourt in Dalmarnock.

- Blue and lettering: an AdBlue cap is frequently blue, or says "AdBlue", where a diesel cap usually doesn't. Trust the cap, not its position.

- Many cars fit AdBlue the smaller filler of the two.

- Check inside your fuel flap: plenty of motors have a label there showing which fuel goes where.

- In the boot or under the bonnet: that is where your filler is if it's not by the diesel cap, and the handbook tells you which.

- Collecting a hire or company car, say at the car park at the nearest station? Ask whoever drove the car last before leaving, rather than when the light goes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching the diesel tank

When the light goes on, wherever across Glasgow City, use this routine.

- Stop on level, motor off, with time to spare — never hurried on the side of Baltic Court.

- Find the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and speak the word "AdBlue" aloud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft. It works.

- The diesel cap stays on. Where the two share a flap, confirm it is closed before the bottle comes up.

- Tip slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it's full or when the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check a second time. Make sure the diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the car.

Find during the second or third stage that the bottle went in the wrong filler? That is where you stop.

Step five is out.

## Dalmarnock: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

The short order of things, starting with not starting your motor.

The fuel pump starts on plenty of diesels as soon as the ignition is switched on — and so keep it off.

AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel — it sinks to the bottom of the tank, where the fuel is sucked from — so do not top up with diesel to thin it.

Ask the attendants to help roll your car away from the pump if you're at a forecourt — the Esso, the Tesco or anywhere else.

Your own drive around Dalmarnock is where it should stay.

Already run? Stop once it is sensible, then switch off.

Leave the M74 — under a mile out of Dalmarnock — at the next exit.

Roughly how far did it go? Hopping across Dalmarnock is less a job than a trip of under 3 miles towards Glasgow, and so say.

## Dalmarnock: what happens when our technicians get there

The van reaches the car wherever it stopped — your own driveway, near French Street Studios, or outside the local primary school.

What fluid went in, the amount, and if it ran: we ask because those replies set both work and price.

Nobody heads out before you have had our quote by phone.

The fuel system is then flushed thoroughly, once your tank is emptied.

With AdBlue that matters more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it does not wash out on its own.

Once the fuel filter has been cleaned — or renewed, if needed — clean diesel goes in, and then your car is tested.

We don't go until it has been fired up and is running smoothly.

Using pumps fine on a busy forecourt and quiet enough for use outside a house at night, most jobs in which your motor hasn't run take roughly half an hour after we arrive.

Payment happens on the day, not upfront, and you are given the documents your insurer wants: an engineer report and a VAT invoice.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it's worth checking yours while we are on the way.

## About Dalmarnock, briefly

Dalmarnock is a riverside suburban area in Glasgow City, situated near the River Clyde at an elevation of 11 metres. Dalmarnock is located close to the city centre, approximately 1.8 miles from Glasgow, and is surrounded by other nearby places such as Farm Cross, Oatlands, and Shawfield. Dalmarnock has a population of around 4608 people, predominantly residing in flat-type housing.

## Dalmarnock and Glasgow City: AdBlue drains across the area

Dalmarnock is a residential suburb, and the vans that cover it also work the towns around it, Oatlands and Shawfield among them, across the G postcode area.

A postcode starting G40 4 gets the van to you fastest.

Shifting the vehicle is not needed.

Anywhere it sits — beside Champion Life Church, on a lay-by heading to Cuningar Loop, at home — that's where it gets drained.

If you are close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe like the back of Slipstream, ring and ask rather than assuming.

## In short, for Dalmarnock drivers

Before you pour, read the cap.

If AdBlue has gone in your diesel tank regardless, leave the vehicle off and phone 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel empties it where it stands, anywhere in Glasgow City.
