# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Delabole? Don't Start It

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, your ignition remains off and so does your motor.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

The harm begins once it is pulled through the pump — it won't ignite, and it won't blend with diesel.

If your motor hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually emptied and carefully purged where the car sits around Delabole.

First, call us on 0333 366 0103.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank in Delabole

Do:

- Keys out — that way nobody can power anything on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.

- So you can tell us which liquid it was and about how much, save the till receipt or the empty bottle.

- Give us a postcode starting PL33 9, or whichever street is closest, and our van finds you directly — so ring from wherever you are.

Do not do these:

- Do not start the engine, even for a moment to shift the car.

- Switching your key to ignition alone sets your pump going on plenty of diesels. Avoid it.

- No more fuel on top. The AdBlue won't mix, so it is wasted.

- Don't drive the car anywhere, not even a short stretch down High Street.

- Emptying that tank yourself beside the road is not one to try.

Ask the attendants to help you roll your car away from the island if you're on a forecourt around Delabole, whether it is the Gulf or somewhere else.

Parked on your own driveway? Then it remains just as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not the motor.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to fresh it.

A fuel pump is not designed to cope with it, and AdBlue was never supposed to go through one.

Poured in with the diesel, it stays separate rather than blending — quite different from fuel.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and collects underneath it — the same spot the pickup draws from.

Simplest of all: one that had AdBlue in Newhall Green overnight and hasn't been started since. The liquid sits at the foot of your tank, untouched — though it will be first through if the motor starts, ahead of any diesel at all.

It does two kinds of harm from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it leaves urea that crystallises in filters and tiny channels; meanwhile, since it eats at certain metals, every part it reaches keeps suffering for as long as it stays inside.

Where the AdBlue has reached the pipework, waiting till morning in Delabole makes things worse. Inside that tank only, waiting does nothing.

Water lubricates nothing. The injection pump and every injector depend on diesel running past them, so the water part harms them by itself.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's often worse than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the Valley Truckle Filling Station and you have a fault of thin fuel.

It mixes with your diesel, and while it's inside the tank it causes no harm; the harm comes from running the motor on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid itself is simply the wrong one.

Not burning, it can't simply be run through.

Nor can it be watered down, because it splits again — and the next tankful won't rinse away deposits or corrosion. So the flush counts more with AdBlue, and trying the engine "to see", in the heart of Delabole or out in Trewalder, does more harm than nearly any other slip.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Clearing a tank is the simplest part on any fuel system, and without running, the AdBlue stays in it — anywhere around Cornwall your vehicle sits.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Delabole

It's not on purpose. Plenty of vehicles keep the AdBlue cap beside the diesel inlet, now and then under a single flap, and muddling them up is simple after dark.

A bottle picked up when heading home and poured in at home, instead of at the forecourt, is the usual route.

Mostly, it takes place in one of a couple of familiar ways.

Rushing, outside Delabole Primary School, after a warning light flashed on during the school run, someone refills the vehicle.

Someone tips the container in outside their house, right off Westdown Road, as the day ends.

One more version: darkness, the car park by The Bettle and Chisel, and a driver opening that flap for the first time.

Hired motors, brand-new cars, company motors, or the second car in a home with both fuels: the least familiar cars get it most.

Wherever you're in Delabole or the rest of Cornwall, it's the same mistake and the same first answer: leave the vehicle off.

## Started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Delabole?

Then your tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

With any running time, it goes on to the injection pump and every injector, having passed via your filter and pipework.

Lumpy running, smoke, dropping power, dashboard lights or cutting out: any might appear, maybe part way across Delabole or returning from Bowood Park Golf Course.

Stop when safe. Switch off. Keep the car off rather than restarting it to check.

Each start pulls more of it through.

If you were on the M5, over 50 miles from Delabole, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

Distance counts: every mile carries the AdBlue further in, so driving for Truro, under 50 miles away, makes a much bigger job than crossing Delabole to the car park by St. John the Evangelist.

Let us know about how far it had come.

There's more to rinse out once the motor has been started, and our technicians do all of it where your car has come to a stop.

Noticed early, it very rarely leaves permanent damage.

## What emptying AdBlue from a diesel involves in Delabole

The car stays where it is, whether that is a street beside Delabole Methodist Church, a drive, a lay-by or a filling station in Delabole, and our van comes to it.

Before anything else our engineers ask what went in, roughly how much, and whether the engine has run, since those replies determine the work.

Then your tank is cleared where the car waits, so the tainted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

A careful flush counts far more with AdBlue than after petrol, because residue will not clear away by itself.

After that, your filter: flushed, or replaced when it has to be. After that clean diesel, then a check of your vehicle.

About half an hour on site is usual for most jobs where the engine hasn't run.

Our equipment is explosion-proof, so a live forecourt is no problem, and it's hushed enough for a residential street after dark.

Lastly, the fuel system is bled with clean diesel.

You head off as soon as our engineers have fired it up, and it makes no difference whether the car is on a driveway around Delabole or in a space at the nearest station.

The check before we go is that it runs correctly on clean diesel.

The entire job is done where the vehicle is, so it never has to go to a workshop.

Insurers ask for a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and both come at the end.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right around Delabole

Each job is different, and so not one single price is fair.

What moves the price is, first of all, whether your engine has run and for how long; then how much AdBlue got in; and then where your car is and whether a technician can reach it safely, which is simpler on an open driveway than in a tight space behind Viewing Platform.

Which fluid got in, how much, plus if it ran: every Delabole call opens with precisely those, before any figure, not afterwards.

When they are known, a range turns into one fixed number.

You get that price on the phone, before anybody sets off, and you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Many insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it's worth checking yours while we are on the way.
