# Doddington: AdBlue in the Diesel Tank? Leave It Off

AdBlue in your diesel tank? Then keep the engine off — and the ignition too.

Urea dissolved in water is what AdBlue is.

Not like fuel, it neither ignites nor mixes, and nothing happens till your motor sucks it round.

If the motor has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally drained and carefully purged where your car stands in Doddington.

Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Doddington, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do straight away

To do:

- So no one can switch the ignition on, pull your keys out.

- If you are anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- So you can give us which liquid it was and about how much, keep your receipt or the empty bottle.

- Ring right where you are. Say a PE15 0 postcode or the closest street name, and nobody has to hunt for you.

Things not to do:

- Not even briefly, and not to shift your vehicle: the motor remains off.

- Many diesels run their pump the instant the ignition comes on, and so leave the vehicle off.

- No more fuel on top. The AdBlue won't blend, and so it is pointless.

- Keep the vehicle where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short way along High Street.

- No draining it yourself, either, on the verge.

On a forecourt around Doddington, whether it is the Gulf or another one, ask the staff to help you push the vehicle clear of the pump.

At home, the vehicle remains exactly as it was left.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

Not the engine but the exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

Stored in a separate tank, it's injected into the exhaust stream to treat the fumes.

A fuel pump is not designed to take it, and AdBlue was never supposed to go through one.

Tipped in with your diesel, it keeps separate rather than mixing — quite unlike fuel.

Denser than diesel, it drops and pools below it — the same spot the intake draws from.

When your system runs, the AdBlue is top of the list to be pulled through. Until then it waits beneath the diesel, which is why a vehicle filled in Hook yesterday and not switched on stays the simple case, provided no one turns your key.

It causes two kinds of damage from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps working on the parts it hits for as long as it stays there.

A vehicle left standing in Doddington with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank is not.

The water in it does damage of its own: your high-pressure pump and the injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is regularly worse

A problem of thinned fuel is what you end up with after fuelling a diesel with petrol from the Jet.

Blended through the diesel and left unused, it's no threat at that stage; using your motor does the damage.

AdBlue in a diesel is a problem of the wrong substance altogether.

It can't simply be run through, because it doesn't burn.

Crystals and corrosion remain through the next tankful, and AdBlue splits again out of your diesel, and so thinning it can't help. Hence the flush matters so much, and turning your key "to see" costs more with AdBlue than nearly any other mistake — in Knights End or the heart of Doddington equally.

The good news is the same as with petrol.

Anywhere in Cambridgeshire the vehicle has stopped, an unstarted motor means the AdBlue still in the reservoir: the easiest part of any fuel system to clear.

## Doddington: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

Many cars place the AdBlue cap alongside the diesel one, occasionally behind a single flap, and in dim light the two may look the same. No one means it.

A bottle picked up while driving home and tipped in outside the house, instead of at the forecourt, is the usual story.

It tends to happen in a couple of familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside Lionel Walden Primary School.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off New Street.

Or your car is topped up in the car park at The George, in poor light, by somebody who has never opened that flap before.

The least known cars get it the most — hire cars, new ones, company ones, and the other car of a family with both fuels.

Same mistake, an identical first response — leave it off — wherever you happen to be in Doddington or the rest of Cambridgeshire.

## Already started the engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Doddington?

Then the AdBlue has left the tank.

The filter and pipework have had it sucked along, and any running time takes it on to the injection pump and every injector.

Lumpy running, smoke, lost power, dashboard lights or cutting out: any might appear, perhaps part way across Doddington or coming back from Manor Park.

When safe, pull over then switch it off — without turning it on again to test.

Each start pulls more of that through.

If you were on the A1(M), under 15 miles from Doddington, come off at the next exit and stop somewhere sensible instead of pressing on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper into your system. That's why crossing Doddington to park near Jubilee Clock and a drive of under 15 miles for Ely are such separate jobs.

Let us know roughly how far it had come.

Once the motor has been started, the flush covers more, and all of it is done where the vehicle has ended up.

Noticed early, it very rarely leaves lasting damage.

## Draining AdBlue in a diesel in Doddington: what it takes

A street by Doddington Methodist Church, a driveway, a lay-by or a forecourt: wherever your vehicle has stopped in Doddington, our technicians travel to it.

Before anything else we ask what was put in, roughly how much, and whether your engine has been run, because those answers decide this work.

Next, draining that tank on the spot removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

With AdBlue, more so than with petrol, flushing counts: the whole system is cleaned all the way through since what remains will not wash away unaided.

Clean diesel goes in once the filter is flushed — or swapped, when it needs to be — and after that your car is tested.

Not run? Then count on roughly half an hour on site for most jobs.

Our pumping gear is explosion-proof, and so a live filling station is no fault, and it's quiet enough for a residential street after dark.

The last step is to bleed the system on new diesel.

You set off as soon as our technicians have started the car, and it makes no difference whether the car is on a driveway around Doddington or in a bay at March.

The test before our technicians leave is that it runs smoothly on clean diesel.

The whole job is done where your car is, so it never needs to be taken to a workshop.

Your insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — each handed over afterwards.

## AdBlue drains across Cambridgeshire, Doddington included

AdBlue jobs in Doddington go to vans that cover the towns near it — Wimblington, Swingbrow plus Eastwood End — and most of Cambridgeshire beyond, across PE postcodes.

Close to a border, or somewhere tricky to explain? Checking beats assuming, and so phone.

No towing is needed. In Doddington, a rural village, a van that comes to you works: your vehicle is emptied on the spot, be it in a driveway, a residential street, a parking area or a forecourt.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right around Doddington

Every job differs, so no single quote would be honest.

Three things shift the price: whether the engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the car is. That last one rests on whether a van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is easier than a tight spot behind Doddington Village Hall.

Which fluid went in, how much, plus if the engine ran: every Doddington enquiry begins with precisely that, ahead of any quote, never afterwards.

Those answers narrow a range right down to a single figure.

Before anyone sets off, you hear our price by phone. Then you pay on the day, card or over the phone, with nothing in advance.

Check your policy whilst we're on the way: many include misfuelling cover.

## Still beside the vehicle around Doddington?

Then the most handy thing you can do is nothing to your car.

Motor off, keys out, ignition off.

Call 0333 366 0103 then tell us it's AdBlue, about how much, and if it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Doddington or anywhere around Cambridgeshire.
