# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Dromore? Keep It Switched Off

Motor off, ignition off: that is where you begin if AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank.

AdBlue is urea dissolved in water.

It doesn't burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the harm it does begins when the system pulls it in.

In Dromore, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before your motor runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where the car is.

Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Dromore, AdBlue in the diesel tank: what to do right away

To do:

- Take your keys out, so nobody switches the ignition on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is anywhere near.

- Which fluid, and roughly how much volume? Save the bottle or your receipt, and we will know.

- The van locates you fastest with a postcode starting BT25 1, or just the name of a street nearby, and so call from the spot.

Never do these:

- Moving your vehicle even a short way is no reason to fire up your engine.

- Many diesels run their pump the moment the ignition comes on, and so leave it off.

- Pouring in more diesel doesn't work: AdBlue settles out rather than thinning.

- Any driving at all is to be avoided, including a short stretch along Heugh Road.

- Emptying that tank yourself by the road isn't one to try.

The attendants on duty at any Dromore filling station — the the nearest petrol station among them — will usually lend a hand pushing it clear if you ask.

At your own drive, don't touch it at all.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

Not your motor but your exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it.

A fuel pump isn't designed to take it, and AdBlue was never supposed to go through one.

It doesn't blend. Once it's poured into the tank, AdBlue acts not at all like diesel.

It drops, because it is heavier than diesel, and settles down where the pickup draws its fuel from.

Easiest of all: one that had AdBlue in Blackskull last night and hasn't been started since. The AdBlue waits at the foot of that tank, undrawn — but it would be the first thing through if your engine starts, ahead of any diesel at all.

Two kinds of damage follow from there.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it is corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, and so it keeps working on the components it hits for as long as it stays there.

By daybreak, a vehicle parked around Dromore with AdBlue through its pipework grows worse; if it is only inside that tank, it doesn't.

Water protects nothing. The high-pressure pump and every injector need diesel flowing past them, so the water part harms them in its own right.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it's often worse than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the another forecourt nearby and you have a fault of thin fuel.

Damage only comes from running on it. Blended into the diesel and left inside that tank, it does nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel is another matter: not thin fuel, but no fuel at all.

Since it doesn't burn, running it through is not an option.

It does not stay mixed, and so it cannot be diluted. And crystals and corrosion do not wash out with the next tank of fuel. That is why the flush matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, and why starting your motor "to see" costs more here than nearly anywhere else, whether your car is in Kinallen or the middle of Dromore.

As with petrol, there's good news.

Anywhere around County Down the car has come to rest, an unrun engine means the AdBlue yet in the tank: the easiest part of a fuel system to empty.

## Dromore: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

It is not deliberate. Many vehicles keep the AdBlue inlet beside the diesel inlet, now and then under one flap, and muddling them up is easy in poor light.

Usually it is not the filling station: someone buys a container heading home and pours it in outside the house.

Usually, it occurs in one of a few familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside the local primary school.

After work, a container goes in on a drive close to Dunskey Street.

One more version: darkness, the car park by the pub in the village, and a driver opening that flap the first time.

It crops up most in a hire car, a new car, a company vehicle, or the other car of a family with both fuels — the vehicles people know the least.

Anywhere in County Down, Dromore as well, the mistake doesn't change, and nor does the first step: leave it switched off.

## Dromore: started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then the AdBlue has left the tank.

Given any running, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, having passed through the fuel filter and pipework.

You may see the engine running roughly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, perhaps on the way back from the green space at the edge of the village or halfway across Dromore.

Stop as soon as it is safe, switch off, and do not restart the vehicle to check.

Each start pulls more of it through.

On the M77, over 50 miles from Dromore, the next junction is where to exit, and anywhere sensible is where to park — not carrying on.

How far it went counts. A few hundred yards across Dromore to the car park by the centre is a very different job from a run towards Lisburn, under 10 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into the system with every mile.

Tell us about how far it had come.

We do all of the rinsing where the vehicle has come to a stop, and once the motor has been started there is more of it.

When it's caught soon, permanent damage is very uncommon.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Dromore?

Our engineers come to the car, wherever it has stopped around Dromore: a side street close to a street just off the centre, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

Before anything else our technicians ask what went in, about how much, and if your engine has run, because those replies settle this work.

On the spot, the tank is then drained, and both the polluted diesel and the urea come out at once.

A full flush matters far more after AdBlue than with petrol, since what remains won't clear away by itself.

After that, your filter: cleaned, or changed when it must be. Then clean diesel, and then a test of the car.

Not run? Then expect about half an hour once we are there for most jobs.

The pumps are explosion-proof, fine on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

The final step is to prime your system on fresh diesel.

You drive off as soon as our technicians have started the car, and it makes no difference whether the vehicle is on a drive around Dromore or in a space at the nearest station.

The check before our engineers go is that it runs properly on fresh diesel.

The whole job is done where the vehicle is, so it never has to be taken to a workshop.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report later, which is what insurers want.

## About Dromore itself

Dromore is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland, situated inland at an elevation of 76 metres. Dromore lies approximately 8 miles from Lisburn and is surrounded by smaller settlements such as Waringsford and Gamblestown. Dromore has a population of around 7096 people, predominantly living in detached housing. Dromore is located about 321 miles from London, making it a relatively distant town from the UK capital.

## AdBlue drains across Dromore and County Down

AdBlue jobs in Dromore are passed to teams that serve the towns near it — Waringsford, Gamblestown as well as Lurganville — and much of County Down beyond, throughout BT postcodes.

Near a border, or anywhere awkward to explain? Checking beats assuming, so phone.

A mobile service suits Dromore, a town: there's no need to bring the vehicle to us, since our technicians drain it on the spot, in a drive, a side street, a car park or a filling station.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Dromore

Not one flat figure could be honest, because every job is different.

Whether the engine has been running, and for how long, comes first in what moves the cost. How much AdBlue went in comes next, and then the position of the vehicle, because an open drive is easier for a technician to reach safely than a tight spot behind the far end of the built-up part.

What went in, how much, plus whether the engine ran: every Dromore call begins with exactly those, before a quote, never after.

When those are answered, a range turns into a single firm figure.

The quote is quoted during the call, before anyone leaves; settling up happens on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

As our engineer is travelling, check your policy: many include misfuelling.

## Dromore: still alongside the car?

Then, the best thing to do with your vehicle is to leave it.

Motor off, keys out, ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, plus if the engine ran is everything our technicians ask. Petrol in Diesel handles the remainder across County Down, Dromore too.
