# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Drury: How It Happens and How to Stop It

Keep your motor and ignition off then call 0333 366 0103 first — the rest can wait when AdBlue is already in your diesel tank.

A drain plus a thorough flush, carried out right where the vehicle sits in Drury, is usually all it needs when found before the engine runs.

If you are reading before it has happened, the remainder of this page is about why it happens and how to make sure it does not.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel vehicle need its own filler?

Many newer diesels on the roads around Drury and Spon Green carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to the engine.

Kept in a tank of its own, AdBlue is sprayed into your exhaust gas and cleans it.

Every tank comes with one filler of its own.

On a lot of cars the two sit side by side under the same flap; on others the AdBlue filler is in the boot or under the bonnet.

Filling your diesel side at the petrol pump happens all the time.

Someone who has to stop and work out where it goes usually tops up the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and much less regularly.

The mistake grows in that gap between the two.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Drury: how it takes place

It's seldom carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

To start with, the warning. Low AdBlue triggers a message from the car, and running dry means limp mode — so a hurried top-up, perhaps before work off Drury Lane, perhaps outside The Parrot on the way home that evening.

Then the car is unfamiliar. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and your hand gets to for the cap it would have used on the old one.

Nothing stops the pour after it has started, because a bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one. The bottle fits.

Burntwood Pentre or the middle of Drury: it takes the same few seconds in both.

## The AdBlue filler and the diesel filler: telling them apart

Check these before pouring, on a forecourt in Drury or a driveway out in Coppa View. A few seconds, no more.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is frequently blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap usually isn't. Read it instead of going by position.

- Look at the size: the smaller neck is, on many vehicles, the AdBlue one.

- Check inside your fuel flap: many motors have a label there showing which fuel goes where.

- The handbook. If the filler isn't by the diesel cap, it is in your boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- Check with the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — if you collect a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park at Buckley.

## AdBlue top-ups that never reach the diesel tank

A routine for the day the light comes on, wherever around Flintshire that is.

- Stop somewhere level, motor off, with time to spare — not rushing on the side of Mornington Crescent.

- Silly as it sounds, speaking "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew the cap does the trick — once you have located your filler and read the cap.

- Leave the diesel cap on. If both sit under one flap, check the diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle.

- Stop when that tank is topped up or the bottle is empty; before that, tip gently through the own spout.

- Only after that, start your car: close the cap, check once more, and make sure your diesel cap was never opened.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into the diesel side, stop there.

Don't carry on to step five.

## Drury: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Do not start your motor: that's where the short order of things starts.

On plenty of diesels the ignition alone runs the fuel pump, and so do not switch it on.

Do not top up with diesel to dilute it: AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of that tank, where your fuel is drawn from.

If you are at a forecourt, whether it is the Texaco or the BP, ask the staff to help roll the car away from the pump.

On your own drive around Drury? So the car stays put.

If your engine has already run, stop as soon as it is safe then switch off.

Come off the M56 — under 10 miles out of Drury — at the next exit.

Tell us about how far it went: a run towards Chester, under 10 miles away, is a bigger job than a short hop across Drury.

## What occurs when our technicians turn up in Drury

Anywhere the car came to rest, whether outside Dodleston CofE Primary School, near Globe Way Stadium or on your own drive, the van travels to it.

What fluid was put in, the quantity, and whether it ran: our engineers ask because the replies set the work and price.

Nobody sets off before you have had the quote over the phone.

The system is then purged thoroughly, after your tank is emptied.

With AdBlue that matters more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it doesn't wash out on its own.

The fuel filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

We don't leave until it has been fired up and is running smoothly.

Most jobs are done in about half an hour after our engineers arrive, provided the engine has not run — and the pumps we use are safe on a busy forecourt and quiet after dark outside a house.

You pay on the day, with nothing upfront, and get a VAT invoice and an engineer report for your insurer.

It is worth looking at your insurance while we travel to you: misfuelling cover is included with plenty of policies.

## Drury and Flintshire: AdBlue drains across the area

Drury is a rural village, and the teams that cover it also work the towns around it, Lane End and Little Mountain among them, across the CH postcode area.

A postcode starting CH7 3 gets our van to you fastest.

Shifting the vehicle is not needed.

Our technicians drain it where it is — a side street close to Saint Mathews Parish Church, a lay-by on the way to Drury Fields, a driveway.

Awkward to explain, like the back of Saint John's URC? By a county line? Asking is better than assuming, so ring.

## The short version for Drury people

Tip nothing until you've read the cap.

If AdBlue has gone in the diesel tank regardless, leave it off then call 0333 366 0103. Petrol in Diesel drains it where it sits, anywhere across Flintshire.
