# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Ewloe? Keep It Switched Off

If AdBlue has got into your diesel tank, leave the motor off and leave your ignition off.

Urea dissolved in water is all AdBlue is.

As it is water-based, it won't burn and never combines with diesel; damage only starts once the pump starts drawing it.

If your engine hasn't run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is normally drained and carefully flushed where the car sits in Ewloe.

Before you do anything else, phone 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Ewloe: the first few minutes

Do:

- Keys out — then no one can switch anything on.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is at all close.

- Which product, and about what amount? Save the bottle or the till receipt, and our engineers can know.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting CH5 3, or the name of the nearest street, gets our van to you without a search.

Do not do these:

- Shifting your car just a short way is no reason to fire up the motor.

- Don't switch the ignition on. On many diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

- AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel — it separates out — so adding more fuel won't thin it.

- Leave it where it is instead of driving it anywhere, even a short stretch along Carlines Avenue.

- No draining it yourself, either, at the roadside.

The attendants on duty at any Ewloe filling station — the the nearest petrol station included — will usually lend a hand pushing it aside if you ask.

If you are on your own drive, leave it just where it is.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

AdBlue is made for the exhaust, not your engine.

Its own reservoir holds it, and from there it's fed into your exhaust, where it treats the fumes.

Not one side fits the other: urea does not belong in a pump, and an injection pump can't take urea.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after poured in, won't. Its behaviour is nothing like fuel's.

It drops, because it is denser than diesel, and settles low where the intake takes its fuel from.

A car filled on a drive in Shotton yesterday evening and not started since counts as the straightforward case. No pump has pulled the AdBlue up so far — but once the engine runs, that is what goes first, directly from the bottom of that tank.

From there it does two kinds of harm.

As its water goes, the urea left behind crystallises, and the crystals block filters and settle in fine passages. And it's corrosive to some of the metals a fuel system is made from, so it keeps running on the parts it hits for as long as it stays there.

A car left sitting around Ewloe with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue only in its tank is not.

Water protects nothing. The injection pump and each injector depend on diesel flowing through them, so the water part damages them in its own right.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel regularly the bigger fault?

A problem of thinned fuel is what you end up with after filling a diesel with petrol at the Texaco.

Harm only comes from running on it. Mixed into your diesel and sitting in your tank, it causes none.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the liquid as such is simply the wrong one.

Not burning, it cannot just be run through.

Nor can it be thinned, because it splits back out — and the next tankful will not clear away deposits or corrosion. So the flush matters for more with AdBlue, and trying your engine "to see", in the heart of Ewloe or out in Hawarden, does more harm than nearly any other error.

The same good news applies as with petrol.

Not run? Then the AdBlue waits only in the tank, the easiest section of the entire system to empty, anywhere your vehicle has stopped across Flintshire.

## How AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank around Ewloe

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on many motors waits right next to the diesel filler, at times under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

A bottle bought while driving home and poured in outside the house, instead of at the filling station, is the usual story.

The ways it takes place are few and familiar.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard flags it up, and outside Saughall All Saints Church of England Primary School the top-up is rushed.

A driver pours the container in outside their house, just off The Highway, as the day ends.

Or a driver unfamiliar with that flap tops up the vehicle in dim light, stopped in the car park by The Crown And Liver Ewloe.

It crops up the most in a rental, a brand-new car, a fleet car, or the other motor of a home with one of each fuels — the cars people know least.

Wherever you are around Ewloe or the rest of Flintshire, it's the same slip and the same first answer: leave it off.

## Already started your engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Ewloe?

In that case, the AdBlue is no longer inside your tank.

Your filter and lines have had it pulled through, and any running time takes it on to the high-pressure pump and each injector.

Maybe coming back from Level Road Park, or part way across Ewloe, the engine might go rough, smoke, drop pace, flash the dash or cut out.

When safe, stop then switch it off — with no turning it on again to test.

More of that is pulled through with each start.

If you were on the M56, under 10 miles from Ewloe, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere sensible instead of pressing on.

How far it went matters. A couple of hundred yards across Ewloe to the car park by Woodside Close Community Centre is a very different job from a run towards Chester, under 10 miles away, with the AdBlue reaching further into your system with each mile.

About how far it had come is worth telling us.

There's more to clean out once the engine has been started, and our engineers do all of it where the car has ended up.

Noticed early, it very seldom leaves long-term damage.

## Emptying AdBlue in a diesel around Ewloe: what it takes

The car remains where it is, whether that's a road beside Site of the Boars Head pub, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt in Ewloe, and the van travels to it.

What went in, about the quantity, and if the engine has turned over: our technicians check first, since those decide the work.

Then your tank is drained where the vehicle waits, and so the tainted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

The system is flushed thoroughly, which matters more with AdBlue than with petrol, because what it leaves behind does not rinse out on its own.

Your filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and your car is tested.

If your motor hasn't run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once our engineers are there.

The pumps are explosion-proof, fine on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Priming your system with fresh diesel comes last.

Firing it up comes next, and then you head off from where the vehicle is parked, outside Hawarden or on a driveway around Ewloe.

It's checked on clean diesel to be sure it runs properly before our technicians go.

No garage is needed at any point, with the entire job done then and there.

At the end, you are given the paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer.

## About Ewloe and where it is

Ewloe is a village situated on the shores of a lake in Flintshire, Wales, with a relatively low elevation of 79 metres. Ewloe lies close to the English border, approximately 6.6 miles from Chester, and is surrounded by nearby places such as Aston and Higher Shotton. Ewloe has a population of around 1841 residents, who mostly reside in detached housing. Ewloe is also located a considerable distance from London, at around 169.5 miles away.

## Ewloe and Flintshire: AdBlue drains across the area

Our teams that answer AdBlue jobs in Ewloe also cover the locations round it, Aston, Ewloe Green and Higher Shotton among them, and most of Flintshire beyond, across the CH postcode area.

If you are near a border, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask instead of guessing.

A van that comes to you fits Ewloe, a village: there's no need to bring the car to us, since our engineers drain it there, in a driveway, a side street, a car park or a forecourt.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Ewloe

Each job differs, and so no fixed price is honest.

The price changes first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the amount of AdBlue that got in. After that it rests on where the vehicle is and whether a van can reach it safely, which is easier on an open driveway than in a tight gap behind The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Which fluid got in, how much, and if the engine ran: each Ewloe call begins with precisely that, ahead of a quote, not afterwards.

The answers turn a range into a straight quote.

Before a van heads out, you are told the quote by phone. Then you pay on the day, card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it is worth checking yours while we are on the way.

## In Ewloe and still next to the car?

Then, do nothing — that's the most helpful step there is.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, the amount, and if the engine ran is all our technicians need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder throughout Flintshire, Ewloe included.
