# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Ewood: How It Occurs and How to Avoid It

AdBlue already in your diesel tank? Then set this page aside a moment, leave your ignition and motor off, then call 0333 366 0103.

Caught before your motor runs, it is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is in Ewood.

If you are reading before it has happened, the remainder of this page is about why it happens and how to make sure it does not.

## AdBlue in a diesel vehicle, and its separate tank

No single liquid but two: that's what plenty of newer diesels around Ewood and Longshaw carry, with diesel for the motor.

Stored in a tank of its own, AdBlue is sprayed into your exhaust gas and cleans it.

Different tanks, different fillers.

Under one flap, side by side: that's the layout on a lot of motors. On others, AdBlue's filler sits beneath the bonnet or in your boot instead.

At the pump, your diesel side gets filled all the time.

Seldom topped up, AdBlue normally goes in from a bottle, tipped by someone who has to stop and think which filler it needs.

The mistake lives in that gap.

## How does AdBlue in the diesel tank happen in Ewood?

Rarely is it carelessness: normally three things coincide.

Hurry comes from the warning. The vehicle tells you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank sends it into limp mode — so the top-up gets done in a rush, before work on a driveway off Bolton Road, or heading home in the car park at The Fernhurst.

Then the car is new. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and the hand gets to for the cap it would have used on the old one.

Third, the spout fits: diesel filler or AdBlue filler, it slides in as easily, and after the pour starts, nothing stops it.

The same few seconds settle it, in the middle of Ewood or out in Earcroft.

## How to tell the AdBlue filler from the diesel one

Be it a Ewood forecourt or a driveway out in Lower Darwen, take a few seconds over these before anything goes in.

- Colour and lettering: an AdBlue cap is often blue, or says "AdBlue", where a diesel cap usually does not. Trust the cap, not its position.

- Look at the size: the smaller neck is, on many motors, the AdBlue one.

- A label inside your fuel flap frequently shows which fuel goes where, on many cars. Check for it.

- Cannot find it beside your diesel filler? In that case check below the bonnet or in the boot — the owner's manual says which.

- The person who drove the vehicle last. On a hire or company car picked up from somewhere like the car park at Mill Hill (Lancs), ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## Keeping AdBlue out of your diesel tank when you top up

When the light goes on, wherever across Lancashire, use this routine.

- Turn off once parked — level ground, engine off, and never in a rush beside Ferguson Street at the roadside.

- Silly as it sounds, speaking "AdBlue" aloud while you unscrew the cap does the trick — once you've located the filler and read the cap.

- The two behind a single flap? Then make sure the cap on your diesel filler stays shut ahead of raising the bottle.

- Using the bottle's own spout, pour slowly — and stop when it's full or the bottle is empty.

- Before you start your car, shut the cap and look a second time that the diesel cap was never opened off.

Discover at the second or third step that AdBlue went into the wrong filler? That's where you stop.

Leave out step five entirely.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank already, around Ewood?

Don't start the motor: that's where the short order of things begins.

Keep the ignition off as well, since on plenty of diesels it alone runs your pump.

Don't top up with diesel to dilute it: AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of that tank, where your fuel is sucked from.

The staff at the nearest petrol station, Texaco or any forecourt will usually lend a hand pushing your car clear when asked.

Leave it where it is if you're on your own drive around Ewood.

Already run? Pull over when it's safe, then switch off.

Leave the M65 — under a mile out of Ewood — at the next junction.

About how far did it go? Crossing Ewood is less a job than a run of under 10 miles towards Preston, and so say.

## Ewood: what takes place when our technicians turn up

Our engineers come to the vehicle wherever it has stopped, whether that's outside Blackburn the Redeemer CofE Primary, close to Ewood Park or on your own drive.

Both the work and our quote depend on three replies — which liquid, which quantity, and whether it's run — so our technicians ask.

Nobody heads out before you have had our quote over the phone.

After that: draining, then a thorough flush of the entire system.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not wash out on its own.

Your filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the car is tested.

After that we start the engine and check it runs properly before leaving.

Most jobs are finished in roughly half an hour once we arrive, as long as your engine hasn't run — and the pumps we use are safe on a busy forecourt and quiet at night outside a house.

Nothing in advance; you settle up that day. At the end, a VAT invoice and the report from the engineer are handed to you for your insurer.

Wrong-fuel cover is included in plenty of insurance policies — so make use of the wait to look at yours.

Ewood is located near several other suburban areas, including Earcroft, Higher Croft, and Moorgate, and is approximately 9 miles from the city of Preston. ## AdBlue drains across Lancashire, Ewood included

Over BB postcodes, the vans covering Ewood — a residential suburb — work the nearby locations too, Moorgate and Higher Croft among them.

Quickest of all: quote a BB2 4 postcode to the van.

Shifting your car isn't needed.

We drain it where it is — a side street close to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church, a lay-by on the way to Fernhurst Wood, a driveway.

Ring and ask rather than assuming if you're near a border, or somewhere hard to describe, like the back of Jack Walker Memorial Statue.

## In short, for Ewood motorists

Always, the cap; then, the pour.

AdBlue in the diesel tank after all? Keep it off and phone 0333 366 0103; Petrol in Diesel drains it where it stands, throughout Lancashire.
