# Four Pools: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Prevent It?

Leave the motor and ignition off and ring 0333 366 0103 now — the rest can wait if AdBlue is already in the diesel tank.

A drain plus a full flush, done just where your car sits in Four Pools, is usually all it takes if caught before your engine runs.

Not happened yet? Further down, the page explains the why it takes place and the how to avoid it for good.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel vehicle need its own filler?

No single liquid but two: that's what many modern diesels near Four Pools and Greenhill run, with diesel for the engine.

Your exhaust, not your motor, is where AdBlue ends up: dosed into the gas to fresh them, from its own tank.

Each tank comes with one filler of its own.

Plenty of cars have a single flap for the two, whereas others move the AdBlue filler to the boot or under the bonnet.

The diesel side is fuelled at the petrol pump all the time.

Rarely filled, AdBlue usually goes in out of a bottle, poured by someone who has to stop and think what filler it needs.

The slip lives in that gap.

## How AdBlue in the diesel tank takes place around Four Pools

Carelessness rarely explains it. Instead is three things lining up together.

On a driveway off Ash Grove before work, or in the car park outside Fairfield Inn on the way home: that is where the rushed top-up takes place. Why the rush? As AdBlue runs low the vehicle tells you, and once it is empty, limp mode follows.

The old car's cap is where your hand reaches — but a hire car, a new vehicle or a company car keeps the fillers elsewhere. That's a second thing: an unfamiliar vehicle.

A spouted bottle finds no obstacle at a diesel filler any more than at an AdBlue one. So the tip, once begun, carries on.

Bengeworth or the middle of Four Pools: it is the same few seconds in both.

## Which filler is for AdBlue, and which for diesel?

Before you pour anything, whether on a driveway in Hinton Cross or a forecourt around Four Pools, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- Check the cap rather than going by position: AdBlue ones are commonly blue or marked "AdBlue", and diesel ones usually aren't.

- Plenty of motors give AdBlue the smaller filler of the two.

- A label inside your fuel flap often shows which fuel goes where, on many cars. Check for it.

- The handbook. If the filler is not by your diesel cap, it is in the boot or under the bonnet, and the handbook says which.

- The person who drove the car last. On a hire or company car picked up from somewhere like the car park at Evesham, ask before you leave, not when the light comes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching the diesel tank

On the day the warning comes on — anywhere you are across Worcestershire — a routine to use.

- Pull in somewhere level, motor off, with time in hand — never rushing on the side of Davies Road.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds daft and it works.

- If both sit under one flap, check your diesel cap is still closed before you lift the bottle — then leave the vehicle on.

- Tip slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it is full or when the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check again. Make sure the diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the vehicle.

If at stage two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Step five is out.

## Already put AdBlue in the diesel tank around Four Pools?

Do not start your engine: that is how the short order of things starts.

The fuel pump runs on plenty of diesels the moment your ignition is switched on — and so keep it off.

Topping up with diesel won't dilute it: rather than mixing, AdBlue drops to the base of your tank, just where the fuel is drawn from.

If you are on a forecourt, whether it's the Morrisons or the Esso, ask the attendants to help roll the vehicle clear of the pump.

Your own drive in Four Pools is where it stays.

When the engine has run by now, stop somewhere safe and switch it off.

On the Strensham Interchange, under 10 miles from Four Pools, that means the next junction.

A short hop across Four Pools is a smaller job than a run towards Worcester, under 15 miles away, and so tell us about how far it went.

## Four Pools: what takes place when our engineers get there

Our technicians come to your car wherever it has stopped, whether that is outside St Richard's CofE First School, close to Evesham Adventure Playground or on your own drive.

Both the work and the price rest on three replies — which liquid, what quantity, and if it's run — so our technicians ask.

Nobody sets off before you have had the price by phone.

After that: a drain, then a full flush of the entire system.

More than with petrol, it matters with AdBlue: the crystals form, some metals corrode, and none of that washes away on its own, no matter how long it is left.

Testing comes at the end: before that, fresh diesel goes in, and your filter is flushed or replaced if necessary.

The motor is started next and tested to confirm it runs smoothly, all before we go.

If the engine hasn't run, most jobs take about half an hour once we are there, using pumps that are fine on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Payment happens on the day, not upfront, and you receive the documents an insurer asks for: an engineer report and a VAT invoice.

It's worth looking at your insurance as the van travels to you: misfuelling cover comes with many policies.
