# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Greenlands? Don't Start It

If AdBlue has got into the diesel tank, leave your engine off and keep your ignition off.

In plain terms, AdBlue is just urea in water.

The trouble begins once it is pulled through your lines — it won't burn, and it will not combine with diesel.

If the engine has not run yet, AdBlue in a diesel tank is usually emptied and carefully purged where the vehicle stands around Greenlands.

Phone 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Greenlands: the first few minutes

Do:

- So nobody can switch the ignition on, take your keys out.

- Put your hazards on if you are at all close to moving traffic.

- Keep the till receipt or the empty bottle, so you can tell us what was put in and about how much.

- Our van finds you quickest with a postcode starting B98 7, or just the name of a street nearby, and so phone from the spot.

Things not to do:

- Not even for a second, and not to roll your vehicle: the motor stays off.

- Turning your key to ignition by itself starts your pump going on plenty of diesels. Skip it.

- Don't top up with diesel to thin it. AdBlue doesn't dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Even a short distance down Studley Road is too far to drive it.

- Beside the road, don't try draining it on your own.

On a forecourt in Greenlands, whether it is the BP or another one, ask the attendants to help you push the car clear of the pump.

If you're on your own drive, leave it exactly where it sits.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

The motor isn't what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

From a dedicated reservoir it goes straight to the exhaust, treating what the engine lets out.

Nothing in it is meant to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is made to handle it.

Inside a diesel tank it behaves very differently from fuel. It doesn't mix in.

It sinks, since it is heavier than diesel, and settles low where the intake draws its supply from.

Once your system runs, the AdBlue is first to be pulled through. Before then it waits beneath your diesel, and that is how a vehicle filled in Ipsley yesterday and not started remains the straightforward one, provided no one turns your key.

Two kinds of damage follow from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it leaves urea that hardens in filter elements and tiny channels; and, since it eats at some metals, every part it reaches keeps suffering for as long as it stays inside.

Pipes holding AdBlue mean damage by morning for a car parked around Greenlands. Just inside that tank, it stays stable.

The water in it does damage of its own: the high-pressure pump and the injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it is often worse than petrol

A fault of thin fuel is what you get after filling a diesel with petrol from the Tesco.

Harm just comes from running on it. Mixed into your diesel and left inside that tank, it causes nothing.

AdBlue in a diesel is a different matter: not thin fuel, but no fuel at all.

It does not burn, and so it cannot simply be run through.

Crystals and corrosion stay after the following fill, and AdBlue splits again out of the diesel, and so watering it can't work. That is why the flush counts so much, and turning the key "to see" costs more here than almost any other slip — in Lodge Park or the heart of Greenlands alike.

The same good news applies as with petrol.

Emptying a tank is the simplest job on any fuel system, and with no running, the AdBlue remains in there — wherever in Worcestershire your car has stopped.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Greenlands: how it ends up there

In dim light, two caps side by side — the AdBlue cap and the diesel cap, occasionally behind a single flap — can appear the same. Nobody means it; plenty of layouts invite it.

It mostly occurs at home, from a container bought en route home, not at the filling station.

Mostly, it takes place in one of a few familiar ways.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up takes place in a hurry outside St Thomas More Catholic First School.

Near Woodrow North, a driver tips a container in on the drive in the evening.

Or a driver new to that flap tops up the car after dark, stopped in the car park outside The Mayfly.

Hired cars, new cars, fleet cars, or the spare car in a family with both fuels: the least known vehicles see it most.

Keep it off: that's the first step to an identical mistake, anywhere around Greenlands or the remainder of Worcestershire you happen to be.

## Already started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank in Greenlands?

Then that tank is no longer where the AdBlue is.

It has been pulled through your filter and the lines, and if the engine ran for any time, it has got to the high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors.

Expect rough running, smoke, falling power, warnings on your dash, or a stall — coming back from Greenland Park, perhaps, or part way across Greenlands.

When safe, stop and switch everything off — with no turning it on again to test.

More of it is pulled through with each start.

Exit the M42, under 5 miles from Greenlands, by the first junction and park somewhere safe, rather than carrying on.

Mileage counts: every mile pushes the AdBlue deeper into your system, so driving for Birmingham, under 15 miles away, makes a much bigger job than crossing Greenlands to the car park by St John the Evangelist.

Let us know about how far it had come.

There is more to flush once your engine has run, and we do all of it where the vehicle has ended up.

Noticed soon, it very rarely leaves long-term damage.

## Greenlands: how AdBlue is cleared from a diesel

A street beside Woodrow Library, a drive, a layby or a forecourt: anywhere the car has stopped in Greenlands, our technicians travel to it.

Which fluid got in, about the quantity, and whether the motor has turned over: our engineers ask first, because those shape the work.

Next, emptying that tank on the spot removes the contaminated diesel along with the AdBlue together.

What remains from AdBlue won't flush out by itself, and so the fuel system gets a careful flush, which counts much more with urea than with petrol.

Fresh diesel goes in once the filter is cleaned — or swapped, if it needs to be — and after that the car is tested.

Most of these jobs are a half-hour job once our engineers arrive, if your motor has not run.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

The final step is to bleed the fuel system on new diesel.

Whether it is a parking space by Redditch or a driveway around Greenlands, that is where our engineers start the engine and you head off.

Our engineers make sure it runs properly on fresh diesel before we leave.

No garage is needed at any point, with the whole job done then and there.

At the end, you are given paperwork for your insurer: a VAT invoice plus a report from the engineer.

## About Greenlands itself

Greenlands is a suburban area in Worcestershire, situated on the riverside at an elevation of around 80 metres. Greenlands lies approximately 13 miles southwest of Birmingham and 93.6 miles northwest of London, near other local places such as Park Farm, Woodrow, and Lakeside. Greenlands has a population of around 4458 people, predominantly living in terraced housing.

## AdBlue drains across Greenlands and Worcestershire

Our vans that answer AdBlue call-outs around Greenlands also cover the spots round it, Park Farm, Woodrow and Lakeside among them, and most of Worcestershire beyond, across the B postcode area.

If you are close to a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask instead of assuming.

No towing is needed. In Greenlands, a residential suburb, a mobile service fits: your car is drained where it stands, whether on a driveway, a side street, a parking area or a filling station.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Greenlands

Because the callouts vary, a single figure wouldn't be fair.

Three things shift the price: whether the engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where your car is. That last one turns on whether our van can reach it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight space behind Studley Road Social Club.

Which fluid was put in, how much, and if it ran: every Greenlands enquiry opens by asking exactly that, before any figure, never afterwards.

Those replies turn a range into a straight price.

Priced by phone before the engineer heads out, it is paid for on the day — card or phone, nothing in advance.

Misfuelling cover is part of plenty of insurance policies, so it is worth looking at yours before the van gets there.

## Still beside the vehicle around Greenlands?

Then, touch nothing — that's the best move available.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Call 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, and if it ran are all our technicians need. Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder throughout Worcestershire, Greenlands too.
