# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Gronant? Keep It Switched Off

If AdBlue has got into your diesel tank, keep your engine off then keep the ignition off.

Urea mixed in water is what AdBlue is.

It doesn't burn, it doesn't mix with diesel, and the harm it does starts when the fuel system draws it in.

In Gronant, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before the engine runs usually comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, right where the vehicle is.

Before you do anything else, call 0333 366 0103.

## Your next steps straight away, Gronant: AdBlue in your diesel tank

To do:

- So no one can turn the ignition on, pull the keys out.

- Hazards on, if moving traffic is anywhere close.

- The empty bottle or your receipt shows us the product and the quantity, so don't bin it out.

- Our van locates you fastest with a postcode starting LL19 9, or simply the name of a street close by, and so phone from the spot.

Don't:

- Don't start the motor, even for a moment to move the vehicle.

- Plenty of diesels power their pump the instant the ignition goes on, and so leave the car off.

- Adding more diesel doesn't work: AdBlue separates out rather than thinning.

- Even a short distance down Nant y Gro is too far to drive it.

- Emptying that tank yourself beside the road is not one to try.

Moving your car away from the pumps is a job for staff to help with, whichever Gronant forecourt you are on, the Esso included.

If you are on your own drive, leave the vehicle exactly where it stands.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

The engine is not what AdBlue is made for; the exhaust is.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into your exhaust gas to clean it.

A fuel pump is not made to cope with it, and AdBlue was never supposed to travel through one.

It doesn't blend. Once it is poured into the tank, AdBlue behaves not at all like diesel.

The intake takes fuel from the lowest part of your tank, and that's just where AdBlue settles: being denser than diesel, it sinks.

Easiest of all: one that had AdBlue in Tanlan Banks last night and hasn't turned since. The AdBlue sits at the base of the tank, untouched — but it would be first through if the motor starts, before any diesel at all.

From there it causes two kinds of harm.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water evaporates, it strands urea that crystallises in filter elements and tiny passages; and, since it attacks some metals, every part it reaches suffers for as long as it remains inside.

If the AdBlue has reached the pipework, leaving it overnight in Gronant makes it worse. In the tank alone, time does nothing.

The water in it does damage of its own: your high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors rely on diesel to lubricate them, and water offers them nothing.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it is regularly worse than petrol

Petrol pumped into a diesel on Tesco's forecourt makes the fuel watery — that is the whole issue.

No damage is done as long as it sits unused, mixed into your diesel — only once the motor runs on it.

The trouble with AdBlue in a diesel is a completely wrong liquid.

It doesn't burn, and so it cannot just be run through.

Whether your car sits in Gwaenysgor or the centre of Gronant, turning it over "to see" costs more with AdBlue than almost any other mistake, and the flush matters for more. Why: it will not remain mixed, so watering it down fails; and crystals and corrosion survive the next fill.

With AdBlue, the good news is no distinct from petrol.

Emptying a tank is the easiest part on any fuel system, and without running, the AdBlue stays in it — wherever across Flintshire the vehicle has stopped.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Gronant: how it ends up there

Plenty of cars place the AdBlue filler beside the diesel cap, now and then behind a single flap, and after dark the two can look the same. Nobody intends it.

Mostly it occurs with a bottle bought on the way home and poured in on the driveway, not at the forecourt.

The ways it occurs are few and familiar.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up takes place in a hurry outside the local primary school.

After work, a container goes in on a driveway near Llys Dewi.

One more version: darkness, a pub car park by Gronant Inn, and a driver opening that flap for the first time.

The least familiar vehicles get it most — hire cars, brand-new cars, company ones, and the other vehicle in a family with one of each fuels.

An identical mistake, same first step — leave it off — anywhere you are around Gronant or the remainder of Flintshire.

## Gronant: started your engine with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

If so, the AdBlue is no longer inside that tank.

It's been pulled through your filter and your lines, and if the motor ran for any time, it has got to the high-pressure fuel pump and the injectors.

Watch for lumpy running, smoke, falling power, lights on your dash, or a cut-out — coming back from Coed Gronant, perhaps, or part way across Gronant.

Stop when it is safe. Turn off. Leave the vehicle off rather than restarting it to check.

With each start, more of that is pulled through.

Exit the Moreton Spur, under 15 miles from Gronant, at the next junction and stop safely, rather than driving on.

Each mile pushes the AdBlue further into your system. That's why a hop across Gronant to park beside Bethel Welsh Methodist Church and a drive of under 10 miles for St Asaph are very separate jobs.

Let us know about how far it had come.

Once the motor has been started, the flush includes more, and all of it is done where the car has come to a stop.

Lasting damage is very uncommon when it's noticed soon.

## Emptying AdBlue in a diesel around Gronant: what it takes

We come to the car, wherever it has stopped around Gronant: a side street close to St Winifred, a drive, a lay-by or a forecourt.

Before anything else our engineers ask what got in, roughly how much, and if the engine has been run, since those replies decide the work.

Next, draining your tank on the spot removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

What remains from AdBlue will not flush out unaided, and so the whole system gets a careful flush, which matters far more here than with petrol.

The filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and your car is tested.

Most of these jobs are a half-hour job once our technicians turn up, if your motor hasn't run.

Our equipment is explosion-proof, and so a live forecourt is no problem, and it is hushed enough for a residential street late at night.

The last step is to bleed the fuel system on fresh diesel.

Firing it up comes next, and then you drive off from where the vehicle is parked, by Prestatyn or on a drive around Gronant.

The test before our engineers leave is that it runs correctly on fresh diesel.

As the job is done in its entirety where your car is, a workshop never comes into it.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers ask for.

## AdBlue drains across Gronant and Flintshire

Guessing doesn't help close to a county line or somewhere tricky to describe; ring and ask.

Gronant is a coastal village, and an on-site drain suits it: whether the vehicle is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our engineers drain it where it is, so it never needs to be shifted to us.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out in Gronant?

There is no fair single price, because the jobs aren't the same.

Three things change the cost: whether the engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where the car is. That last one rests on whether a van can get to it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight spot behind Gerddi Gleision Cottage (ruined).

Before any figure, not after, every enquiry from Gronant begins with the same three checks: the liquid, the amount, and whether it ran.

The replies turn a range into a straight price.

Before a van heads out, you hear the quote on the phone. And payment is on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Check your insurance while we are on the way: plenty carry misfuelling cover.

## Beside your car around Gronant, still?

Then the most useful thing you can do is nothing to the car.

Keys out, motor off, ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, roughly how much, plus if the engine ran is all our technicians ask. Petrol in Diesel takes over the remainder throughout Flintshire, Gronant too.
