# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Heathfield? Don't Start It

Motor off, ignition off: that's where you begin if AdBlue has gone into your diesel tank.

Urea dissolved in water is all AdBlue is.

Unlike fuel, it neither burns nor mixes, and no harm starts until the engine sucks it through.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the car is in Heathfield, is generally all AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it is caught before your motor has been run.

Before you do anything else, phone 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank in Heathfield: the first few minutes

Do these:

- Pocket the keys, which stops someone switching the power on.

- Put the hazard lights on if you're anywhere near moving traffic.

- So you can give us which liquid it was and about what quantity, save the receipt or the empty bottle.

- Call right where you are. Quote a CB22 4 postcode or the closest street name, and no one has to hunt for you.

Do not do these:

- Not even for a second, and not to roll the car: the motor stays off.

- Your ignition remains off: on many diesels, switching it on is enough to run the pump.

- No extra fuel on top. The AdBlue will not mix, and so it is wasted.

- Even a short way down Pepperslade is too far to drive it.

- By the road, don't try draining it on your own.

Rolling your car away from the pumps is a job for staff to help with, whichever Heathfield forecourt you are on, the BP included.

On your own driveway, do not touch it at all.

## What does AdBlue do in a diesel tank?

The engine is not what AdBlue is made for; your exhaust is.

Its own tank keeps it, and from there it is fed into your exhaust, where it cleans the gas.

Not one side fits the other: urea does not belong in an injection pump, and an injection pump can't deal with urea.

Poured in with your diesel, it stays apart rather than mixing — entirely different from fuel.

The intake sucks fuel from the lowest part of the tank, and that's just where AdBlue settles: as it is denser than diesel, it sinks.

Easiest of all: a vehicle that got AdBlue in Fowlmere last night and hasn't been started since. The liquid waits at the base of the tank, undrawn — though it will be first through once your engine runs, ahead of any diesel at all.

From there it causes two kinds of harm.

It attacks certain metals used in fuel components, attacking any part it reaches until it is removed from the system. And when the water goes, the urea turns into crystals that block filters and lodge in narrow channels.

Where the AdBlue has reached the lines, waiting overnight around Heathfield leaves it worse. In the tank only, waiting does nothing.

The water in it causes harm of its own: the high-pressure fuel pump and your injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is frequently more serious than petrol

Fill a diesel with petrol in error over at the Esso, and this issue is diluted fuel.

Mixed into the diesel and sitting still, it's harmless for now; running the motor is the harm.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid as such is plainly the wrong one.

Not burning, it can't simply be run through.

Deposits and corrosion stay through the next tankful, and AdBlue separates again from your diesel, and so watering it can't help. Hence the flush matters so much, and turning your key "to see" costs more here than almost any other mistake — in Newton or the centre of Heathfield equally.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Not run? Then the AdBlue waits only inside the tank, the simplest bit of the whole system to empty, wherever your vehicle has stopped across Cambridgeshire.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Heathfield: how it ends up there

It is not on purpose. Plenty of cars have the AdBlue cap beside the diesel inlet, now and then under a single flap, and mixing them up is easy in poor light.

A bottle bought while driving home and poured in outside the house, rather than at the forecourt, is the usual route.

Usually, it occurs in one of a few familiar ways.

Rushing, outside Thriplow CofE Primary School, after a warning light came on during the school run, a parent refills the car.

After work, a container goes in on a drive close to Kingsway.

Otherwise, in dim light outside the pub in the village, your vehicle gets topped up by someone opening that flap the first time.

The least known cars get it most — rentals, new cars, fleet ones, and the other vehicle in a home with both fuel types.

Keep it switched off: that is the first response to an identical mistake, anywhere in Heathfield or the rest of Cambridgeshire you happen to be.

## Already started your engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank in Heathfield?

The AdBlue has left the tank, then.

With any running, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, after passing through the fuel filter and pipework.

You may notice your motor running roughly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, possibly on the way back from Ash Pen or halfway across Heathfield.

When safe, pull over and turn it off — without turning it on again to test.

More of that is pulled through with each start.

Leave the M11, under a mile from Heathfield, by the first junction and stop safely, not driving on.

Mileage matters: every mile carries the AdBlue deeper into the system, and so driving for Cambridge, under 10 miles away, gives a far bigger job than hopping across Heathfield to the car park by Imperial War Museum Duxford 1940 Operations Room.

Tell us roughly how far it had come.

Our engineers do all of the flushing where your car has ended up, and once the motor has been started there is more of it.

Permanent damage is very uncommon when it's noticed early.

## Emptying AdBlue in a diesel around Heathfield: what it takes

The car stays where it is, whether that's a road near Honor Guard, a drive, a lay-by or a filling station in Heathfield, and the van travels to it.

Before anything else we ask what went in, roughly how much, and if the motor has been run, since those answers determine the work.

Then that tank is drained where your car waits, and so the polluted fuel and the AdBlue come out together.

With AdBlue, far more than with petrol, flushing matters: the whole system is cleaned all the way through since what remains won't flush out unaided.

Next, your filter: cleaned, or changed if it must be. Then fresh diesel, then a test of your car.

If your motor has not run, the majority of jobs take about half an hour once our engineers are there.

Explosion-proof pumps make a live forecourt sensible to work on, and they run quiet enough not to disturb the street at night.

Bleeding your system with fresh diesel comes last.

Whether it is a parking bay by Whittlesford Parkway or a drive in Heathfield, that is where our engineers start it and you drive off.

The check before our engineers leave is that it runs properly on fresh diesel.

The whole job is done where your car is, so it never needs to go to a workshop.

You receive a VAT invoice and an engineer report after that, which is what insurers want.

## About Heathfield

Heathfield is a small village in Cambridgeshire, situated inland at an elevation of 29 metres, approximately 7.6 miles from Cambridge. Heathfield lies near the villages of Thriplow, Duxford, and Whittlesford, and is characterized by its predominantly terraced housing. Heathfield is a relatively small community, with a population of around 668 residents, and is located about 42 miles from London.

## AdBlue drains across Heathfield and Cambridgeshire

Throughout the CB postcode area, the teams taking AdBlue jobs in Heathfield serve much of Cambridgeshire too, Thriplow, Duxford and Whittlesford included.

Close to a border, or somewhere awkward to explain? Asking is better than guessing, and so ring.

No towing is needed. In Heathfield, a rural village, a mobile service works: the car is drained where it stands, whether on a drive, a residential street, a parking area or a filling station.

## Heathfield: what AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to fix

Not one flat price could be honest, since every job is different.

The price moves first with how long, if at all, your engine has been running, and next with the amount of AdBlue that was put in. After that it depends on where the vehicle is and whether a van can reach it safely, which is simpler on an open drive than in a tight space behind American Air Museum.

Ahead of a quote, not afterwards, each call from Heathfield opens with the same three questions: the liquid, the amount, plus if it ran.

Given them, the range shrinks to one fixed figure.

Our price is given during the call, before anyone leaves; payment happens on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Misfuelling cover comes with plenty of insurance policies, so it pays to look at yours before the van gets there.

## Heathfield: still alongside the vehicle?

Leaving your vehicle alone is, right now, the best move you can do.

Keys out, engine off, ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103: AdBlue, the amount, and whether it ran is all our engineers ask. Petrol in Diesel takes over the rest across Cambridgeshire, Heathfield too.
