# Why It Happens and How to Avoid It: AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Higher Dimson

AdBlue already in your diesel tank? Then put this page down a moment, keep the ignition and engine off, and ring 0333 366 0103.

Caught before your motor runs, it's normally a drain and a thorough flush, done where your car is in Higher Dimson.

Not happened yet? Below, the page explains the reasons it takes place and the how to avoid it for good.

## AdBlue in a diesel vehicle, and its separate tank

Plenty of current diesels on the roads round Higher Dimson and North Dimson carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to the motor.

Stored in a tank of its own, AdBlue is sprayed into your exhaust gas to clean it.

Separate tanks, different fillers.

Some motors keep the AdBlue filler in the boot or under the bonnet; plenty of others place the two together under one flap.

The diesel side is fuelled at the pump all the time.

Someone who has to stop and think where it goes normally tops up the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less often.

It's in the gap that the error happens.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank around Higher Dimson: how it occurs

Carelessness rarely explains it. What does is three things coming up at once.

Haste comes from the warning. Your car warns you as AdBlue runs low, and an empty tank sends it into limp mode — so the top-up gets done in a rush, before work on a drive off Quarry Lane, or on the way home in the car park outside The Cornish Inn.

Then the car is new. A hire car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one didn't, and your hand gets to for the cap it would have used on the old one.

Third, the spout fits: a diesel filler or AdBlue filler, it goes in as readily, and once the tip begins, nothing halts it.

Dimson or the heart of Higher Dimson: it is the same few seconds either way.

## The AdBlue filler and the diesel filler: telling them apart

A few seconds is all these take — so run through them before you tip anything, on a drive in Lower Dimson or a forecourt around Higher Dimson.

- Position can mislead; the cap doesn't. AdBlue caps are often blue or bear the word "AdBlue" — diesel ones normally do not.

- On plenty of cars, size gives it away: AdBlue gets the smaller filler neck.

- Check inside the fuel flap: many cars carry a label there saying which fuel goes where.

- Cannot see it beside your diesel inlet? Then look below the bonnet or in the boot — the owner's manual says which.

- Check with the person who drove it last — before you leave, not when the light comes on — when you pick up a hire or company car from somewhere like the car park outside Gunnislake.

## Keeping AdBlue out of your diesel tank when you top up

On the day the light appears — anywhere you are across Cornwall — a simple routine to follow.

- Pull in somewhere level, motor off, with time in hand — not rushing on the side of Sand Hill Park.

- Find the AdBlue filler, check the cap, and say the name "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew it. It sounds daft. It does the trick.

- The diesel cap stays on. Where the two share a flap, confirm it is closed before lifting the bottle.

- Tip slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it is full or when the bottle is empty.

- Close the cap and check once more. Make sure your diesel cap was never opened. Only then start the vehicle.

Spot at step two or three that it has already gone into your diesel side? So stop just there.

Do not go on to step five.

## Higher Dimson: already put AdBlue in the diesel tank?

Brief order, then. First: your engine remains unstarted.

The fuel pump starts on many diesels the moment the ignition goes on — so leave it off.

Filling up with diesel won't weaken it: instead, AdBlue sinks to the bottom of your tank, right where fuel is taken from.

At a forecourt — Asda, Gulf or any other — the staff will normally help roll the car away, when you ask.

Leave it where it is if you're on your own driveway in Higher Dimson.

When your motor has been run already, stop somewhere safe then switch it off.

On the M5, under 50 miles from Higher Dimson, that means the next exit.

Roughly how far did it go? Hopping across Higher Dimson is less work than a trip of under 15 miles to Plymouth, so say.

## When our technicians get there around Higher Dimson, what occurs?

Outside Copper Valley Junior Academy, close to Gunnislake Crusade Fellowship Centre or on your own driveway: wherever the vehicle has stopped, our technicians come to it.

Both the work and the price depend on three replies — what fluid, what quantity, and if it's run — so we ask.

Nobody heads out until you have heard the price by phone.

Then the tank is cleared and the fuel system rinsed thoroughly.

With AdBlue that counts more than with petrol: it crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, and so it doesn't wash out on its own.

Testing is at the end: before that, clean diesel is added, and the filter is flushed or changed if necessary.

Before leaving, we start the car and confirm that it's running smoothly.

Unstarted vehicles usually need a half-hour job after arrival. The kit is safe on a live forecourt, and hushed enough for a driveway late at night.

No money in advance; you settle up that day. At the end, a VAT invoice and a report from the engineer are handed to you for the insurer.

It is worth checking your insurance while we travel to you: misfuelling cover is included with plenty of policies.
