# Huntington: How Does AdBlue End Up in a Diesel Tank, and How Do You Prevent It?

If AdBlue is already in your diesel tank, stop reading for a moment: leave the engine and your ignition off then call 0333 366 0103.

Around Huntington, catching it before your engine turns normally leaves a drain and a full flush where it stands.

Not happened yet? Further down, the rest of the page explains the why it occurs and the ways to avoid it for good.

## Why does AdBlue in a diesel car need its own filler?

Diesel feeds your engine — but plenty of modern diesels driven about Huntington and Oldfallow carry another fluid as well.

Its own tank keeps it, and from there it goes to your exhaust, where spraying treats the fumes.

Each tank has its own filler.

Plenty of motors have a single flap for both, while some move the AdBlue filler to your boot or under the bonnet.

At the pump, your diesel side gets filled constantly.

Someone who has to stop and work out where it goes usually fills the AdBlue side, from a bottle, and far less often.

That gap is where the slip lives.

## How does AdBlue in your diesel tank take place in Huntington?

Three things tend to come together, and carelessness is rarely one of them.

Haste comes from the warning. Your car tells you as AdBlue runs low, and a dry tank puts it into limp mode — so the top-up happens quickly, before work on a driveway off Cocksparrow Lane, or heading home in the car park at The Littleton Arms.

Unfamiliar vehicles come second, too. Rentals, new motors and company vehicles place their fillers differently, and habit goes for the cap used on the old one.

And the bottle fits. A bottle with a spout goes into a diesel filler as easily as an AdBlue one, so nothing stops the pour after it has started.

It takes seconds, be it out in Dogingtree Estate or bang in the heart of Huntington.

## Telling the AdBlue filler from the diesel filler

Be it a Huntington forecourt or a drive over in Chadsmoor, spend a few seconds over these before any is poured in.

- The cap. The AdBlue cap is commonly blue, or marked "AdBlue". Your diesel cap usually isn't. Read it rather than going by position.

- On plenty of motors, size tells: AdBlue has the smaller filler neck.

- Look inside the fuel flap: many motors carry a label there showing which fuel goes where.

- The handbook shows which it lives if your filler is not next to your diesel cap: the boot, or under the bonnet.

- Whoever had it before knows. Check when you collect a rental or company car — at Hednesford's car park, say — not once the warning comes on.

## Topping up AdBlue without it reaching your diesel tank

Wherever across Staffordshire the light comes on, this is a routine for that day.

- Pull in somewhere level, motor off, with time to spare — never hurried on the side of Lime Pit Lane.

- Locate the AdBlue filler, read the cap, and speak the word "AdBlue" out loud while you unscrew it. It sounds daft. It works.

- The diesel cap remains on. Where the two sit under a flap, confirm it is closed before lifting the bottle.

- Gently is best, through the bottle's own spout, till it is full or the bottle is empty.

- Before you start the car, shut the cap and look again that the diesel cap never opened off.

Discover during the second or third stage that the bottle went in the wrong filler? That is where you stop.

Never go on to stage five.

## Already put AdBlue in your diesel tank in Huntington?

Do not start your motor: that is how the short order of things starts.

Leave your ignition off too, since on plenty of diesels switching it on by itself starts the pump.

Don't top up with diesel to thin it: AdBlue doesn't mix with diesel, it sinks to the bottom of your tank, where the fuel is sucked from.

At a forecourt — the nearest petrol station, Texaco or any other — the staff will usually help roll your car away, if you ask.

If you are on your own drive in Huntington, leave it where it sits.

Stop as soon as it is safe then switch off, if your motor has already run.

Come off the M6 — under 3 miles out of Huntington — at the first junction.

Mileage matters — a short hop across Huntington makes a smaller job than driving under 10 miles to Lichfield — so tell us roughly how far it went.

## Huntington: what occurs when our engineers turn up

Our van reaches your car anywhere it has come to rest — your own driveway, near Littleton Pit Wheel, or outside Littleton Green Community School.

Which liquid went in, the amount, and if it ran: our technicians ask because the replies decide the work and price.

The price is given on the call, before any van leaves.

Then the tank is emptied and your system purged thoroughly.

AdBlue crystallises and is corrosive to some of the metals in a fuel system, so it does not wash out on its own — which is why that counts more with AdBlue than with petrol.

Your filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; fresh diesel goes in; and your car is tested.

Before we go, we fire it up and check that it's running properly.

Unstarted vehicles mostly mean a half-hour job from the moment we arrive. The kit is safe on a live filling station, and quiet enough for a driveway late at night.

Paying is on the day, not upfront, and you are given the documents an insurer wants: an engineer report and a VAT invoice.

It's worth looking at your policy while we travel to you: misfuelling cover is included with plenty of policies.

## AdBlue drains around Huntington and across Staffordshire

Being a rural village, Huntington shares its vans nearby places — West Chadsmoor, Broomhill — all the way through WS postcodes and the surrounding area around them.

A postcode starting WS12 4 gets the van to you fastest.

The car does not need to shift.

A drive, a lay-by on the way to Huntington Village Green, a side street near St Thomas: our engineers drain the car where it sits.

Awkward to explain, like the back of St Aidan? By a border? Checking beats assuming, so phone.

## For Huntington people, the short version

Read the cap before you pour.

Petrol in Diesel empties it on the spot, anywhere around Staffordshire, if AdBlue has gone in your diesel tank all the same — so leave it off and call 0333 366 0103.
