# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Jerusalem? Don't Start It

With AdBlue in your diesel tank, your ignition stays off and so does the engine.

AdBlue is urea mixed in water.

The trouble starts once it is pulled through your pump — it won't ignite, and it won't blend with diesel.

In Jerusalem, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before the engine runs normally comes down to a drain and a thorough flush, just where the vehicle is.

Before anything, phone us on 0333 366 0103.

## AdBlue in your diesel tank in Jerusalem: the first few minutes

Do these:

- Take the keys out, so no one switches the ignition on.

- Near moving traffic? So put the hazard lights on.

- So you can tell us which fluid it was and roughly how much, save the receipt or the empty bottle.

- Our van finds you fastest with a postcode starting LN6 4, or simply the name of a street close by, so phone from the spot.

Never do these:

- Do not start the motor, even for a moment to move the vehicle.

- Your ignition remains off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to start your fuel pump.

- Don't top up with diesel to dilute it. AdBlue does not dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Don't drive the vehicle anywhere, not even a short way along Jerusalem Road.

- Don't try to drain the car yourself at the kerbside.

At a forecourt around Jerusalem, whether it's the Shell or another one, ask the staff to help you roll your car clear of the pump.

Stopped on your own drive? Then it stays exactly as it is.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

The motor is not what AdBlue is made for; the exhaust is.

Its own reservoir keeps it, and from there it's fed into your exhaust, and there it cleans the fumes.

Nothing in it is supposed to pass through a fuel pump, and nothing in a fuel pump is designed to handle it.

Tipped in with the diesel, it stays separate instead of mixing — quite unlike fuel.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and collects underneath it — the same place the pickup sucks from.

Simplest of all: a vehicle that got AdBlue in Burton Waters overnight and has not been started since. The AdBlue waits at the foot of your tank, untouched — but it will be first through if your motor runs, ahead of any diesel at all.

Two kinds of damage follow from there.

Crystals and corrosion. As the water dries, it leaves urea that hardens in filters and narrow channels; meanwhile, since it eats at certain metals, each part it reaches suffers for as long as it stays inside.

Overnight, a car sitting in Jerusalem with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; if it is only in your tank, nothing changes.

Diesel protects the injection pump and each injector as it flows; water gives no lubrication, which is a separate form of damage.

## Petrol or AdBlue in a diesel: why AdBlue is frequently worse

Top up a diesel with petrol by mistake over at the BP, and this issue is thinned fuel.

No damage is done while it sits put, blended into your diesel — only once your engine works on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid as such is plainly the wrong one.

Not burning, it can't just be run through.

Crystals and corrosion remain after the next fill, and AdBlue separates back from the diesel, so watering it won't help. That is why the flush counts so much, and trying your engine "to see" does more harm here than almost any other slip — in Whisby or the heart of Jerusalem alike.

As with petrol, there is good news.

Anywhere across Lincolnshire your vehicle has come to rest, an unstarted motor means the AdBlue still in the tank: the simplest bit of a fuel system to empty.

## Jerusalem: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

Nobody means to do it. The AdBlue filler on many motors waits right next to the diesel filler, sometimes under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

A container picked up while driving home and tipped in outside the house, instead of at the forecourt, is the typical route.

The ways it takes place are few and familiar.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside Skellingthorpe the Holt Primary School.

Someone tips the bottle in at home, just off Queensway, as the day ends.

Or someone unfamiliar with that flap tops up the vehicle in dim light, stopped in the car park outside Plough Inn.

The least known vehicles get it the most — rentals, brand-new cars, fleet ones, and the spare motor in a home with one of each fuel types.

Leave it off: that is the first step to the same slip, wherever around Jerusalem or the rest of Lincolnshire you are.

## Jerusalem: started the motor with AdBlue in your diesel tank?

Then the AdBlue has left that tank.

The fuel filter and lines have had it pulled along, and any running carries it on to the high-pressure pump and each injector.

Maybe returning from Bird's Holt, or midway across Jerusalem, your motor might go lumpy, smoke, lose power, flash the dash or stall.

Once safe, pull over and turn it off — with no restarting to test.

Each start pulls more of it through.

Exit the Doncaster By-Pass, under 25 miles from Jerusalem, at the next junction and park safely, not driving on.

A quick hop across Jerusalem to the car park by Skellingthorpe Methodist Church is one matter; driving for Lincoln, under 5 miles away, is another, because each mile carries the AdBlue deeper in. So distance matters.

Tell us roughly how far it had come.

Wherever the vehicle came to a halt is where all of it gets done, even with more to clean out once the motor has been running.

Caught quickly, it very rarely leaves lasting damage.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve in Jerusalem?

A road beside Skellingthorpe Village Office, a driveway, a lay-by or a filling station: wherever your vehicle has come to rest in Jerusalem, our engineers come to it.

What went in, about the quantity, plus if the motor has turned over: our technicians check before all else, because those shape the work.

On the spot, the tank is then drained, and all of the polluted diesel and the urea leave at once.

What remains from AdBlue won't flush out by itself, and so the fuel system gets a full flush, which counts much more with urea than for petrol.

A test of your vehicle follows at the end, once fresh diesel is added and your filter is flushed or, if needed, swapped.

About half an hour on site is typical for most jobs when your engine has not run.

Explosion-proof pumps make a live forecourt safe to work on, and they run quiet enough not to disturb the neighbours at night.

Finally, the fuel system is bled with new diesel.

Whether it is a parking bay at Hykeham or a driveway around Jerusalem, that is where we start the engine and you drive off.

Our engineers check it runs properly on clean diesel before leaving.

Since the job is done in full where the car is, a garage never comes into it.

Insurers ask for a VAT invoice and an engineer report, and you get both afterwards.

## About Jerusalem, briefly

Jerusalem is a small suburban area in Lincolnshire, situated near the city of Lincoln and close to the villages of Skellingthorpe and Doddington. Jerusalem sits at an elevation of around 24 metres, in a low-lying area of the East Midlands region. Jerusalem is characterized by its predominantly detached housing stock, reflecting its residential nature. Jerusalem is located approximately 3.7 miles from Lincoln, making it a commuter base for the city.

## Jerusalem and Lincolnshire: AdBlue drains across the area

Skellingthorpe, Doddington and Birchwood are among the places around Jerusalem that the same vans reach, together with much of Lincolnshire beyond, throughout the LN postcode area.

Phone and check rather than guess if you're close to a county line, or anywhere tricky to explain.

No moving is needed. In Jerusalem, a residential suburb, a van that comes to you works: the car is drained on the spot, be it in a driveway, a side street, a car park or a filling station.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank around Jerusalem: the cost of fixing it

Each job differs, so not one single price would be fair.

Three things move the cost: whether your engine has been running and for how long, how much AdBlue went in, and where your car is. That last one comes down to whether a technician can get to it safely, and an open drive is simpler than a tight gap behind Skellingthorpe Heritage Room.

For that in mind, every enquiry from Jerusalem opens with the identical trio — which fluid got in, what quantity, if it ran — before a quote.

The replies turn a range into a straight price.

Our price is quoted on the call, before anyone leaves; settling up happens on the day, by card or by phone, with nothing upfront.

Plenty of insurance policies include misfuelling cover, and so it is worth checking yours while we're on the way.

## Jerusalem: still beside the vehicle?

Not touching the car is, right now, the best thing open to you.

Keys out; engine and ignition off.

Ring 0333 366 0103 then tell us it is AdBlue, roughly how much, and whether it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, around Jerusalem or anywhere around Lincolnshire.
