# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Kildrum? Don't Start It

If AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank, keep your motor off and keep your ignition off.

Water with urea mixed in it: that is AdBlue.

It doesn't burn, it does not mix with diesel, and the damage it does begins when the system draws it in.

In Kildrum, AdBlue in a diesel tank found before the engine runs usually means a drain and a thorough flush, just where your car is.

Before you do anything else, call 0333 366 0103.

## Kildrum, AdBlue in your diesel tank: what to do right away

Do:

- Keys out — then no one can switch anything on.

- If you're at all near moving traffic, put your hazards on.

- Keep the till receipt or the empty bottle, and so you can tell us what was put in and about how much.

- Give us a postcode starting G67 2, or whichever street is nearest, and our van reaches you directly — so ring from wherever you are.

Things not to do:

- No starting your engine — not for a second, not to reposition the car.

- Turning the key to ignition alone sets the pump going on plenty of diesels. Skip it.

- Do not top up with diesel to thin it. AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel; it separates out.

- Leave it where it is rather than driving it anywhere, even a short way along Moss Knowe.

- Do not try to drain the car yourself at the roadside.

The attendants on duty at any Kildrum filling station — the Jet included — will normally lend a hand pushing it aside if you ask.

If you're on your own drive, leave the vehicle exactly where it stands.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank, and what it does there

AdBlue is made for your exhaust, not the motor.

It goes into its own tank and is sprayed into the exhaust gas to clean it.

No part inside an injection pump is made for this fluid — and no part of it was intended to go through one.

Fuel blends; AdBlue, after poured in, won't. Its behaviour is not at all like fuel's.

Heavier than diesel, it drops and pools below it — the very spot the pickup draws from.

Simplest of all: a vehicle that got AdBlue in Lenziemill last night and hasn't turned since. The liquid sits at the foot of the tank, untouched — though it will be first through if your motor starts, before any diesel at all.

After it is sucked in, the damage comes in two forms.

What remains once the water evaporates is urea, which turns into crystals: they lodge in narrow passages and clog filters. On top of that, it eats at some metals in a fuel system, and carries on until it's flushed out.

A vehicle left sitting in Kildrum with AdBlue already in its lines is worse by the morning; one with AdBlue just in its tank is not.

Water protects nothing. The high-pressure pump and each injector depend on diesel flowing through them, so the water content damages them by itself.

## Why AdBlue in a diesel is commonly more serious than petrol

Put petrol in a diesel at the Asda and you have a fault of thin fuel.

No harm is done as long as it sits unused, blended into your diesel — only once the motor runs on it.

With AdBlue in a diesel, the fluid itself is plainly the wrong one.

It doesn't burn, and so it cannot simply be run through.

Deposits and corrosion stay through the following tankful, and AdBlue splits again from the diesel, so watering it won't help. Hence the flush matters more, and trying your engine "to see" does more harm here than almost any other slip — in Cumbernauld or the centre of Kildrum equally.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Anywhere around North Lanarkshire the vehicle has stopped, an unrun motor means the AdBlue still inside the reservoir: the easiest part of a fuel system to clear.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank in Kildrum: how it ends up there

No one means to do it. The AdBlue filler on plenty of motors waits right next to the diesel filler, occasionally under the same flap, and the two caps can look alike in poor light.

Usually it's not the forecourt: a driver picks up a container driving home and pours it in outside the house.

The ways it occurs are few and familiar.

Halfway through the morning drop-off, the dashboard warns, and outside the local primary school the refill is rushed.

A bottle is poured in at the end of the day on a drive just off Glencairn Road.

Or someone unfamiliar with that flap tops up the car after dark, stopped in the car park outside The Royal British Legion.

Rented motors, new cars, company motors, or the spare vehicle in a family with one of each: the least familiar vehicles get it most.

Wherever across North Lanarkshire, Kildrum as well, the mistake doesn't change, and neither does the first response: keep it switched off.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Kildrum, and your engine started?

Then the AdBlue has left the tank.

The filter and lines have had it pulled through, and any running carries it on to the injection pump and each injector.

Maybe coming back from Cumbernauld House Park, or part way across Kildrum, the engine might go lumpy, smoke, lose pace, light up the dash or stall.

Once you safely can, pull over then switch it off — without restarting to see.

With each start, more of it is pulled through.

If you were on the M80, under a mile from Kildrum, come off at the next junction and stop somewhere safe instead of pressing on.

Distance matters: every mile pushes the AdBlue deeper into the system, so driving for Stirling, under 15 miles away, gives a far larger job than crossing Kildrum to the car park by Mossknowe Gospel Hall.

About how far it had come is worth telling us.

There is more to flush once the engine has been run, and our technicians do all of it where the vehicle has come to a stop.

Very rarely does it leave long-term damage when it's noticed quickly.

## What emptying AdBlue from a diesel involves around Kildrum

Wherever it has stopped around Kildrum — a forecourt, a lay-by, a driveway, a street by Salvation Army — the van travels to your car.

The job rests on three answers, which our technicians get before all else — what was put in, the amount, and if your motor has run.

The contaminated diesel and the urea come out as one when the tank is emptied, right there.

Residue from AdBlue won't flush out unaided, and so the whole system gets a careful flush, which counts much more here than for petrol.

The fuel filter is flushed, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and the vehicle is tested.

Roughly half an hour on site is typical for most jobs when the motor has not run.

The pumps are explosion-proof, safe on a busy forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night.

Lastly, your system is bled with new diesel.

At that point we start it and you head off, whether from a parking bay at Cumbernauld or a driveway around Kildrum.

It's tested on clean diesel to confirm it runs properly before we leave.

No workshop is required at any point, with the entire job done then and there.

You get a VAT invoice and an engineer report later, which is what insurers ask for.

Guessing doesn't help by a border or anywhere hard to describe; ring and ask.

Kildrum is a residential suburb, and a call-out drain suits it: whether the vehicle is on a home drive, a residential street, a car park or a forecourt, our engineers drain it where it is, so it never needs to be moved to us.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Kildrum

There is no fair single quote, since the jobs aren't the same.

Three things shift the cost: whether the engine has run and for how long, how much AdBlue was put in, and where the car is. That last one comes down to whether a technician can get to it safely, and an open driveway is simpler than a tight gap behind Sacred Heart Church.

Ahead of a quote, never afterwards, each call from Kildrum begins with the same three checks: the fuel, the amount, plus whether the engine ran.

Given those replies, a range narrows to a single fixed number.

You hear that price by phone, before anyone heads out, and you pay on the day, by card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

As the van is on the way, check your policy: many cover misfuelling.
