# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Kingsand? Keep It Switched Off

AdBlue in the diesel tank? Then keep your engine off — and your ignition too.

Water with urea dissolved in it: that's AdBlue.

As it is water-based, it won't ignite and never combines with diesel; damage only starts when the pump begins drawing it.

A drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is around Kingsand, is generally what AdBlue in a diesel tank needs — if it's caught before the motor has been run.

Before anything, call us on 0333 366 0103.

## What to do right now, Kingsand: AdBlue in the diesel tank

Things to do:

- Take your keys out, and so no one switches your ignition on.

- If you're anywhere close to moving traffic, put the hazard lights on.

- So you can tell us which fluid it was and roughly how much, save the till receipt or the empty bottle.

- Our van finds you fastest with a postcode starting PL10 1, or simply the name of a street close by, and so call from the car.

Don't do these:

- Don't start your motor, even for a moment to shift your car.

- The ignition stays off: on lots of diesels, turning it on is enough to run the pump.

- Don't top up with diesel to thin it. AdBlue doesn't dilute in diesel; it separates out.

- Never drive the vehicle anywhere, not even a short distance up The Earl's Drive.

- Draining that tank on your own beside the road is not one to try.

Moving your car off the island is a job for staff to help with, whichever Kingsand forecourt you're on, the Esso included.

Stopped on your own drive? Then it remains exactly where it is.

## What AdBlue does in a diesel tank

Not your motor but your exhaust is where AdBlue belongs.

Its own reservoir keeps it, and from there it is sprayed into your exhaust, and there it cleans the gas.

A fuel pump isn't made to take it, and AdBlue was never supposed to travel through one.

It does not blend. Once it is poured into the tank, AdBlue behaves nothing like fuel.

It is heavier than diesel, and so it sinks and gathers at the bottom of the tank, which is where the pickup pulls fuel from.

Once your system runs, the AdBlue is top of the list to be pulled through. Until then it waits underneath your diesel, and that is how a car filled in Millbrook yesterday and not started remains the straightforward case, provided no one touches the key.

From there it does two kinds of damage.

It eats at certain metals found in fuel systems, working on whatever it reaches till it is removed from the system. And when the water goes, the urea turns into crystals that clog filters and settle in narrow channels.

Lines carrying AdBlue mean harm by morning for a car sitting around Kingsand. Only in that tank, it stays the same.

Water protects nothing. The high-pressure pump and every injector need diesel running past them, so the water content harms them by itself.

## Why is AdBlue in a diesel regularly the bigger issue?

Put petrol in a diesel at the another forecourt nearby and you have a fault of thin fuel.

It mixes with your diesel, and whilst it is inside that tank it causes no harm; the damage comes from running the engine on it.

The issue with AdBlue in a diesel is a totally unsuitable liquid.

Not burning, it cannot simply be run through.

Crystals and corrosion stay through the next fill, and AdBlue splits again out of your diesel, and so watering it can't help. That is why the flush counts more, and turning the key "to see" costs more with AdBlue than almost any other mistake — in Insworke or the centre of Kingsand alike.

With AdBlue, the good news is no different from petrol.

Emptying a tank is the simplest job on a fuel system, and without start-up, the AdBlue remains in it — wherever across Cornwall the car sits.

## Kingsand: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

After dark, two caps side by side — the AdBlue one and the diesel cap, occasionally under one flap — can appear the same. No one intends it; many designs invite it.

Usually it is never the filling station: someone picks up a container heading home and tips it in at home.

The ways it takes place are few and familiar.

A warning light comes on during the school run, and the top-up occurs in a hurry outside Fourlanesend Community Primary School.

A driver pours the bottle in outside their house, right off Jackman's Meadow, as the day ends.

Or your car is topped up in the car park outside The Rising Sun, in poor light, by a person who has never opened that flap before.

It comes up the most in a rental, a brand-new vehicle, a fleet vehicle, or the other vehicle of a family with both fuel types — the vehicles drivers use the least.

Same mistake, same first step — leave it switched off — anywhere you are around Kingsand or the rest of Cornwall.

## Kingsand: started the engine with AdBlue in the diesel tank?

The AdBlue has left your tank, then.

With any running, it travels to the high-pressure pump and each injector, after passing through the fuel filter and lines.

You may see the engine running roughly, smoking, losing power, showing warning lights or cutting out, perhaps on the way back from Five Acre Plantation or halfway across Kingsand.

No restarting to test: stop when it is safe, then turn it off.

Each start pulls more of that through.

Kingsand sits under 50 miles from the M5; if you were on it, leave at the next junction and stop somewhere safe instead of carrying on.

A quick hop across Kingsand to the car park by Coronation of King George V is one thing; driving towards Plymouth, under 5 miles away, is something else, because each mile pushes the AdBlue deeper in. So distance counts.

Tell us about how far it had come.

Once your engine has been run, the flush takes in more, and all of it is done where the car has stopped.

Lasting damage is very rare when it's caught soon.

## What emptying AdBlue from a diesel involves in Kingsand

The car remains where it is, whether that's a road beside Congregational Church, a driveway, a lay-by or a filling station around Kingsand, and our van travels to it.

Which fluid was put in, about the quantity, plus if the motor has turned over: we check before all else, because those decide the work.

The polluted diesel and the urea leave as one after the tank is drained, right there.

Residue from AdBlue won't flush away unaided, so the fuel system gets a careful flush, which counts far more with urea than for petrol.

Fresh diesel goes in once your filter is flushed — or swapped, when it needs to be — and then your car is tested.

The majority of these jobs are a half-hour visit once we get there, if the motor has not run.

Quiet enough to use outside a house at night, and fine on a busy forecourt, the pumps are explosion-proof.

Finally, your system is primed with fresh diesel.

At that point our engineers start it and you set off, whether from a parking bay at Devonport or a driveway around Kingsand.

Our engineers confirm it runs correctly on fresh diesel before we leave.

Our technicians do it all wherever your car has ended up, and it never needs to be taken to a garage.

The insurer will want an engineer's report and your VAT invoice — each handed over afterwards.

## AdBlue drains in Kingsand and across Cornwall

Over the PL postcode area, the teams taking AdBlue jobs around Kingsand serve much of Cornwall as well, Cawsand, Forder and Rame included.

Guessing doesn't help close to a county line or anywhere hard to describe; phone and ask.

No moving is needed. In Kingsand, a coastal village, a van that comes to you works: your car is drained where it stands, be it on a driveway, a side street, a parking area or a filling station.

## What does AdBlue in a diesel tank cost to sort out in Kingsand?

No single price would be fair, since each job differs.

Whether the motor has been running, and for how long, comes first in what shifts the cost. How much AdBlue got in comes next, and then the position of the vehicle, since an open driveway is easier for a van to reach safely than a tight space behind St Andrew's Church.

Which fluid got in, what quantity, plus whether it ran: every Kingsand call opens by asking precisely that, ahead of a figure, not afterwards.

Those answers turn a range into a straight quote.

Before anyone heads out, you are told our quote on the phone. And payment is on the day, card or over the phone, with nothing upfront.

Check your policy whilst we are on the way: many include misfuelling cover.

## Kingsand: still beside the car?

Then, touch nothing — that's the most helpful move there is.

Keys out; motor and ignition off.

Call 0333 366 0103 and tell us it is AdBlue, about how much, and whether it's run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, around Kingsand or anywhere in Cornwall.
