# AdBlue in the Diesel Tank in Kintillo? Keep It Switched Off

If AdBlue has gone into the diesel tank, leave your engine off and leave your ignition off.

Urea dissolved in water is what AdBlue is.

The trouble starts once it is pulled through your pump — it will not ignite, and it won't blend with diesel.

Caught before the engine has been run, AdBlue in a diesel tank is generally a drain and a thorough flush, done where the vehicle is in Kintillo.

Call 0333 366 0103 before you do anything else.

## Those opening minutes: AdBlue in the diesel tank in Kintillo

Do these:

- So nobody can turn your ignition on, take the keys away.

- Put the hazard lights on if you are anywhere close to moving traffic.

- So you can tell us which liquid it was and about how much, keep your receipt or the empty bottle.

- Call us from where you are. A postcode starting PH2 9, or the name of the closest street, brings our van to you without a search.

Don't do these:

- Shifting your car just a few yards is no reason to start the motor.

- Your ignition remains off: on many diesels, turning it on is enough to start the pump.

- AdBlue doesn't mix in diesel — it separates out — so adding more diesel will not weaken it.

- Even a short way down Kintillo Road is too far to drive the vehicle.

- Emptying that tank yourself beside the road isn't worth trying.

Rolling the car away from the pumps is a job for attendants to help with, whichever Kintillo forecourt you are on, the Shell or any other.

On that drive, the vehicle remains just as it was left.

## AdBlue in a diesel tank: what it does

Not the motor but the exhaust is where AdBlue is meant to go.

Stored in a separate tank, it is injected into the exhaust to treat the gases.

Not one side suits the other: urea does not belong in a pump, and an injection pump can't deal with urea.

Poured in with your diesel, it keeps apart rather than blending — entirely unlike fuel.

The intake takes fuel from the deepest part of the tank, and that's exactly where AdBlue settles: being heavier than diesel, it sinks.

A motor topped up on a driveway in Aberargie overnight and not started since is the simple one. No pump has pulled the AdBlue up so far — though once the engine runs, that is what is pulled first, directly from the bottom of your tank.

From there it causes two kinds of damage.

What is left when the water evaporates is urea, which forms crystals: they settle in tiny passages and block filters. Worse, it eats at some metals in the fuel system, and keeps going till it's flushed out.

Overnight, a car sitting around Kintillo with AdBlue through its pipework gets worse; if it is just in the tank, nothing changes.

The water in it does harm of its own: your high-pressure pump and the injectors depend on diesel to lubricate them, and water gives them nothing.

## AdBlue in a diesel: why it is commonly worse than petrol

An issue of thin fuel is what you end up with from fuelling a diesel with petrol at the Morrisons.

Harm just comes from running on it. Blended into the diesel and left inside the tank, it causes none.

AdBlue in a diesel is a different problem: not thin fuel, but no fuel at all.

It doesn't burn, and so it can't just be run through.

Nor can it be watered down, because it splits back out — and the following tankful won't rinse away deposits or corrosion. So the flush matters more here, and trying your engine "to see", in the heart of Kintillo or out in Tarsappie, does more harm than nearly any other mistake.

The same good news holds as with petrol.

Not started? Then the AdBlue sits just in the tank, the easiest bit of the entire system to empty, wherever the car has come to rest in Perth and Kinross.

## Kintillo: how AdBlue ends up in a diesel tank

It's not deliberate. Plenty of cars keep the AdBlue inlet alongside the diesel one, occasionally behind a single flap, and mixing them up is simple in poor light.

Mostly it's not the filling station: someone picks up a bottle driving home and pours it in at home.

The ways it happens are few and familiar.

The top-up gets hurried outside the local primary school, after the dash flashed with a warning while the kids were taken in.

Close to Birch Place, someone tips a container in at home after work.

Or your car is topped up in the car park outside The Earn Hotel, in poor light, by someone who has never opened that flap before.

It occurs most in the motors motorists know least: a hire car, a new car, a company car, or the second vehicle of a household with one diesel and one petrol.

Leave it off: that is the first step to the same mistake, anywhere around Kintillo or the remainder of Perth and Kinross you happen to be.

## Started the motor with AdBlue in the diesel tank around Kintillo?

The AdBlue has left that tank, then.

It's been sucked through your filter and your lines, and if your motor ran for any time, it has reached your high-pressure pump and the fuel injectors.

Expect lumpy running, smoke, falling power, lights on the dash, or a stall — coming back from Oudenarde Community Woodland, say, or part way across Kintillo.

No restarting to test: pull over when safe, then turn it off.

More of it is pulled through with each start.

On the M90, under a mile from Kintillo, the first junction is where to leave, and somewhere safe is where to park — not carrying on.

Mileage counts: every mile pushes the AdBlue further in, so driving for Perth, under 5 miles away, gives a far larger job than hopping across Kintillo to the car park by Bridge of Earn Tennis Club.

Tell us roughly how far it had come.

Once the motor has been started, the flush includes more, and all of it is done where your car has come to a stop.

If it is caught soon, long-term damage is very rare.

## What does an AdBlue drain on a diesel involve around Kintillo?

A road beside Bridge of Earn Bowling Club, a drive, a layby or a forecourt: anywhere your vehicle has stopped in Kintillo, we come to it.

What got in, about the quantity, and whether the engine has been run: we ask first, because those decide the work.

Next, emptying your tank right there removes the polluted diesel and the AdBlue in one go.

A full flush matters much more after AdBlue than with petrol, since what remains will not wash out on its own.

Testing your car comes last, once fresh diesel is added and the filter is cleaned or, where needed, swapped.

About half an hour once we arrive is usual for most jobs when your motor hasn't run.

Quiet enough for use outside a house at night, and fine on a working forecourt, our pumps are explosion-proof.

The final step is to prime the fuel system on new diesel.

At that point we start the engine and you drive off, whether from a parking space outside Perth or a drive around Kintillo.

Before leaving, our technicians make sure it is running properly with fresh diesel in.

Our engineers do it all wherever the vehicle has ended up, and it never has to go to a workshop.

Your insurer is likely to want an engineer's report and the VAT invoice — each handed over afterwards.

## AdBlue drains across Kintillo and Perth and Kinross

Bridge of Earn, Dron and Craigend are among the places around Kintillo that the same teams serve, together with much of Perth and Kinross beyond, throughout the PH postcode area.

If you're near a boundary, or somewhere hard to describe, ring and ask rather than assuming.

Wherever your vehicle stands — a driveway at home, a residential street, a car park, a forecourt — our technicians empty it there, and there's no need to take it to us; which suits Kintillo, a residential suburb, well.

## What AdBlue in a diesel tank costs to put right in Kintillo

No single price would be fair, since every job differs.

What shifts the price is, firstly, whether the engine has run and for how long; then how much AdBlue was put in; and then where your car is and whether a technician can reach it safely, which is easier on an open drive than in a tight gap behind War Memorial.

That is why every call from Kintillo starts with the same three questions, asked before giving a figure, not after: what went in, how much, and if it has run.

Once they are known, a range turns into a single fixed figure.

Quoted by phone before the engineer heads out, it is paid for on the day — card or phone, nothing in advance.

Check your insurance while we are on the way: many carry misfuelling cover.

## Kintillo: still next to your car?

Then, touch nothing — that is the most helpful move there is.

Keys out; motor and ignition off.

Phone 0333 366 0103 and tell us it's AdBlue, roughly how much, and if it has run. Petrol in Diesel takes it from there, in Kintillo or anywhere around Perth and Kinross.
