# AdBlue in a Diesel Tank in Lewden: Why It Occurs and How to Avoid It

Keep your engine and ignition off and call 0333 366 0103 now — reading can wait if AdBlue is already in the diesel tank.

Usually, when your motor has not turned, it's emptied and thoroughly rinsed where your car is in Lewden.

Nothing happened yet? Below, the rest of the page explains the reasons it happens and the how to prevent it for good.

## AdBlue in a diesel motor, and its separate tank

Plenty of newer diesels on the roads round Lewden and Blacker Hill carry two liquids, not one. Diesel goes to your engine.

AdBlue goes to the exhaust, where it is sprayed into the gas to fresh it, and it lives in a tank of its own.

There's a filler on every tank.

Under one flap, next to each other: that's the layout on a lot of cars. Elsewhere, AdBlue's filler sits under the bonnet or in your boot instead.

Diesel gets filled on every forecourt call-out, again and again.

Rarely filled, AdBlue usually comes from a bottle, tipped by someone who must stop and think which cap to use.

The mistake grows in the gap between them.

## AdBlue in the diesel tank around Lewden: how it takes place

It's rarely carelessness. Three things tend to line up.

On a drive off Station Road before work, or in the car park outside Boatman's Rest on the way home: that's where the hurried top-up happens. Why the rush? As AdBlue gets low the vehicle warns you, and if it is gone, limp mode follows.

Next, the hand goes for the cap it knew on the old motor — because a rental car, a new vehicle or a company car puts the fillers where your last one did not.

A spouted bottle finds no obstacle at a diesel filler no more than at an AdBlue one. And so the pour, after started, carries on.

It's a few seconds, be it in Worsbrough Dale or right in the centre of Lewden.

## The AdBlue filler and your diesel filler: telling them apart

Before you tip anything, whether on a drive in Worsbrough Bridge or a forecourt around Lewden, check these. They take a couple of seconds.

- Where it sits can mislead; the cap does not. AdBlue ones tend to be blue or carry the word "AdBlue" — diesel caps normally do not.

- On plenty of cars, the size gives it away: AdBlue gets the smaller filler neck.

- Open the flap and check for a label — plenty of motors show what goes in which inlet just there.

- Can't see it beside the diesel inlet? In that case check beneath the bonnet or inside the boot — the handbook says where.

- Whoever had it before knows. Ask when you pick up a rental or fleet car — from Wombwell's car park, say — rather than once the light appears.

## How to top up without AdBlue in the diesel tank

Anywhere across South Yorkshire the light comes on, here is a routine for the day.

- Park then switch off. Not on a slope, not with the motor running, and not in a rush on the side of Wentworth Road.

- Find the AdBlue filler and read the cap. Say "AdBlue" out loud as you unscrew it. It sounds silly and it does the trick.

- The diesel cap remains on. Where both share a flap, make sure it's closed before lifting the bottle.

- Pour slowly, using the bottle's own spout. Stop when it is full or when the bottle is empty.

- Before you start the vehicle, close the cap and check again that the diesel cap was never came off.

If at step two or three you find you have already poured into your diesel side, stop there.

Skip step five entirely.

## Already put AdBlue in your diesel tank in Lewden?

Do not start the motor: that is where the short order of things begins.

Do not switch the ignition on; on plenty of diesels that alone runs the fuel pump.

Filling up with diesel won't dilute it: rather than mixing, AdBlue sinks to the base of that tank, right where fuel is taken from.

Ask the staff to help roll your car away from the petrol pump if you are on a forecourt — the Tesco, the TotalEnergies or somewhere else.

Leave it where it is if you're on your own drive around Lewden.

Stop as soon as it is safe then switch off, if the motor has already run.

Leave the M1 — under 3 miles out of Lewden — at the first exit.

Roughly how far did it go? Hopping across Lewden is smaller a job than a run of under 15 miles to Sheffield, so say.

## What happens when our technicians get there around Lewden

Our technicians come to the car wherever it has stopped, whether that is outside Bank End Primary Academy, near Worsbrough Community Church or on your own drive.

What liquid was put in, the quantity, and whether it ran: we ask because those replies decide both work and quote.

Nobody heads out before you have heard the price over the phone.

The system is then cleaned thoroughly, once that tank is drained.

Not like petrol, AdBlue leaves crystals and attacks certain fuel-system metals, and none of it washes out by itself. Hence it counts more.

The filter is cleaned, or replaced where it needs to be; clean diesel goes in; and your car is tested.

We do not go until it has been started and is running correctly.

With pumps fine on a working forecourt and quiet enough to use outside a house at night, most jobs in which the engine has not run need roughly half an hour after our technicians arrive.

Payment happens on the day, not upfront, and you are given the documents your insurer wants: an engineer's report and a VAT invoice.

It is worth looking at your policy as the van travels to you: misfuelling cover is included with plenty of policies.

Lewden is a residential suburb, and our teams that cover it also work the places around it, Swaithe and Worsbrough among them, across the S postcode area.

The van gets to you fastest with a postcode starting S70 4.

The car doesn't need to move.

Our technicians drain it where it is — a side street close to Stone Circle, a lay-by on the way to Dovecliffe Woods, a drive.

If you are near a boundary, or somewhere hard to explain like the back of Worsbrough Library, ring and ask instead of guessing.
